Rants: A Serious Talk About MegaCon Orlando and Advice to New Press People!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is time for a serious post, which I feel like getting this off my chest and if I don’t then I won’t be getting any sleep. (Haven’t been sleeping the past few days!)

Today, is going to be something of a little rant but at the same time a little warning and advice because I am here today to tell you guys what really happened with MegaCon Orlando’s press and what I went through to get the press badges in order to do it. I bet you are wondering why am I doing this? Well, things did come up after I sent the head of Orlando’s press the review and well me and Gondras, since we can only have two badges due to being online media, won’t be doing Orlando’s MegaCon for press anymore after what had happened. So, let me start from the beginning of the story.

This is the beginning…this is the beginning of the story: As you know we have done press for four years and we have done it with MetroCon, MythiCon, Holiday Matsuri, and Omni Expo, which Omni were the first to discover us after a small typo I had done and one of the reps asked me to contact them and they asked to do press for them and we have been doing it ever since and all thanks to them we were able to gain experience by not only reviewing their event, interview their celebrity ovice actor guests, and get to attend awesome events. Went the same with Metro, Mythic, and Matsuri and with all that experience we thought it was enough to try out for MegaCon and that was last year. We didn’t get it which was saddening enough and I thought well, I guess they don’t want us as press due to being so small despite our experience and Gondras wanted me to try again which got me trying out for Tampa and we did get the passes there but couldn’t make it due to me being in Daytona with a work experience. I did get to send questions for the Convention Head in Tampa and included that in a Convention Spotlight which added a bit more experience. So, fast forward to this year.

The form was early this year which I did talk to the head in Tampa that it should be earlier due to how press is like a regular attendee and we have to plan even with equipment to use for interviews and recording events, etc. That got considered and I did fill out the form and then got turned down again. I couldn’t sleep by the next morning and knew that they were giving us an unfair chance and got me contacting the Orlando Press Head and told her that we have done a lot for the convention community and that smaller blogs should get a chance to cover press and I even shown links of our work which included our interviews with Steve Blum, Brian Beacock, and Dameon Clarke, and of course our most viewed panel of all the Attack On Titan Cast Panel from Omni Expo 2015! I even mentioned that we were doing press at Omni for our fourth year in a row which that was the week leading up to that convention. So then, we got re-considered and was told that like the other press people that we get chosen to promote the brand and event which already do in the Convention Spotlight, heck even promoted the local attractions this time since all the websites mention our biggest thing in town Disney, Universal, I think SeaWorld was mentioned, heck Pandora at Animal Kingdom and Volcano Bay at Universal were opening during MegaCon Orlando! Plus, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 was out and people haven’t probably seen it so we do have the theaters in Pointe Orlando and CityWalk nearby and AMC over in Downtown Disney where the convention does close early and people probably want to see a movie. I know tangent! Anyways, I told them we do that anyways and even pass out business cards which we didn’t do that this time due to how fast we had to go between Concourses. So then that got me asking about interviews!

This is the middle…this is the middle…this is the middle of our story: So, next is the interview part. As you guys know the biggest part of our work is interviewing guests at the convention and this kind of gives you guys a taste of what they do in the booth or on the set of the show since we never see them tape an episode or record in the booth and also we get to see how they like to meet their fans face to face! Trust me, I even almost teared up when Steve Blum told the sotry about how a dad told him how his autistic child was able to talk due to watching him on Digimon Tamers. So, I was told to wait until April, month before big time press, and waited. The thing was on the form itself it asked, “Do you want to do interviews with staff or guests?” And the next question, “IF it is a celebrity guest, who are your top two you want to interview?” At the time, they only had really two big guests that really excited me and that was Stan Lee and Tim Curry and put that down. In April, didn’t get an email and decided to ask about it and got the response, “Sorry! We can’t fulfill your request.” I was surprised and then asked about voice actors and then got, “What voice actors do you want?” At the time they haven’t add any yet and said, “I will get back with you about that when they have some.”

Two days later, they started putting people like Billy West, Troy Baker, Jennifer Hale, and so many more and then contacted Mega again with the names since we haven’t done one with Nolan North, had him, Billy West, Troy Baker, and I think that was it because they haven’t added any anime people and we would like to do an updated interview with Troy Baker since the last time we saw him was at Metro 2014. So, yeah, he had more work and it has been a while since. Then got the answer, “Sorry! Can’t do that! We can only give you cosplayers, attendees, and comic book artists.” I tried explaining I sent them work even after they announced anime actors and got the same answer again which pissed me off and decided to go to Twitter to see about email interviews instead and you were able to read interviews with Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne. Jamie Marchi did say ask again later, I am thinking of seeing about her being at other conventions first before asking again, I mean what if she is at Holiday Matsuri? That would be fun to ask her my newest question about the holidays. The convention did pass, I was able to meet Katie and Linda in person and even Linda thought it was smart with Twitter and she did love my Sailor Moon broach which I wore. (Yes, got one at Hot Topic.) Now onto the end.

This is the ending…this is the ending…this is the ending of our story: So, convention passes and I felt like I had so many things to say but I kept the review as professional as possible. We did have fun but I kind of felt like I was missing something and that is the interviews. Yes, I did mention that part and here is where the screwed up crap comes into play!

So, I sent the Convention Impossible review to the Orlando Press Head and did say “Convention Complete for the entirety of the convention.” And “Aonvention Aborted” for Press. So yeah, felt that we won’t do press again for Orlando but being careful with Tampa. This is what happened next.

So, Press Head asks me “Why didn’t you talk to me if you had a problem? I would’ve fixed it and normally we don’t have celebrity interviews at this convention. The question about interviews was there so we can know who we are working with.”

That stopped me right there! So in other words they baited us! Yes, that is actually the conclusion which I felt used and it made me mad, GOndras mad, even Nerdy Shirts go “Damn!” and I did put a response, “So you baited us…good luck with next year!” I get the response of “No! It’s information gathering!” That kind of set me off the edge in professional mode which I mentioned that there was no valid reasoning to us not being able to interview us and why put the question there in the first placewhen having press at all? I even did end it there because I felt like they don’t deserve us as press since I felt like I jumped through so many hoops to get to this convention and after the failure with AFO not letting us do press, that is why we wanted to show that we hadn’t given up.

What got me more mad is that someone put this as a response when a friend talked about being burned out slightly even after Mega since he was also going to AFO, “Conventions are supposed to be fun! If it is not worth it anymore, let the blog go and move on!” You guys know me, I won’t let this blog go because it has been my baby since 2012! We have also not only give you awesome content here and over at the YouTube channel, it doesn’t mean we have to give up just learn from this entire thing and find a new convention to cover. Heck, I am working on trying to get press for Ranger Stop and even sent the Press Kit. Oh yes, after all the issues that came up with this convention, Stellarnan suggested that we should have one if any other convention wants more work to be proven. I never thought when looking at the stats that we had a big increase of views over on YouTube when I thought we had thirty thousand less views. Lol At least now we know that our work is still seen today. Even people still comment on our Attack On Titan Cast Panel video and it’s two years since that video!

What Is My Advice? Well, my advice is if you want to do press for any convention like us is that make sure what you are getting into. As in, see what requirements the convention is asking for. As in, how many views that you get that they might ask for, see what they do for interviews, which would help because time to time a convention is different, etc. Because we don’t want you guys to go through what we had to do.

Another thing is, ask questions! There are times when the form doesn’t just do you justice nor the website doesn’t say much so usually asking the right questions to either the convention head themselves or the people heading press will help and they are supposed to be there to help. For instance, when I lost my money pouch the convention staff at MythiCon were amazing! They helped us in finding and returning my pouch. Another example the same year is when Nerdy Shirts had the Dameon Clarke interview and found out it was deleted from his phone while checking, the staff were kind enough to let us redo the interview like the deletion never happened! Even though Mr. Clarke did ask me what happened to my hair when I wasn’t wearing a wig on Sunday. (I still get a chuckle from that since when I wore both my blonde wigs that weekend, one was darker than the other.)

And lastly, have a press kit on hand! Like I said above, I did create a press kit all thanks to advice from my best friend, Stellarnan, because it shows that we have done work in the past. I did watch videos on it and did see that I can create it through Powerpoint which I did! Trust me, I had a lot of fun creating it and I did send it to the Mega Tampa Press Head to say, “Hey! This is proof of our work!” I even sent it to Ranger Stop and a little more help for Holiday Matsuri since we did fill out the form for that. Speaking of which…

Advice for conventions or anyone who wants to start one, make your press form as detailed and concise as possible. As in, list what you want, what social media you want to see from the blog such as YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc. And of course experience if any because what if the blog has been around for more than five years or even ten and have been doing press for longer and showing the experience would help to see who is going to work for you and what do they do? And for interviews, just mention beforeheand that press outlets have to talk to staff or even use Google Hangouts as a way of not only meeting the press team, Holiday Matsuri did this and it was great, and ask, “Do you want to interview anyone?” If the person in the chat with you says, “Yes!” Then ask for who they want to interview. That would help with arrangements and of course, please private rooms and make sure that room is given a time slot because it would help anyone setting up for a panel if it is in a panel room or in a green room to say, “Can’t go in due to an interview.” And of course, let attendees know that there is an interview going on if it is in a panel room and may take ten or fifteen minutes to finish.

And for any guest liasons or volunteers, please don’t talk near an interview. As in, if you want to have a discussion privately, please stand away from the interview because there are times when background noice gets picked up in video and it can be hard to hear.

Any steps for us to take?: Well, after everything, I did send the review to Fan Expo who owns MegaCon now along with my press kit to pass along to other conventions for future attendance and press. They did say thanks and if they need anymore feedback that their staff would get in contact with me. No contact yet but I know they would read what I had to say and knowing that the hoops I jumped through to get us there were the hardest to jump. I am also not joking about expanding wisely in the convention press because after seeing what we went through, I don’t want to lose sleep again over another convention. Heck, I lost sleep due to what AFO said about us that isn’t true. Even when I suspected the baiting thing, I lost more sleep than ever. It is that bad.

So now, that is why we are sticking to the conventions that we know and love. Even though it may take longer to get back to MetroCon because when I posted on their group recently about how I missed doing press for them, another press person replied by saying, “I love doing press here because I get treated like family.” Which looking back on it, Metro did treat us well as press people. Yeah there were some hiccups but I did say in that review that not all conventions are perfect and when I read that it did mean a lot to me. What even meant to me more was Richard Epcar liking the post and I did confirm that it was actually him on Facebook and did send him a friend request. I guess he remembered my interview with him which you can still read here. Now I am starting to cry as I type…

So yeah, that is everything. It felt better to talk about it to you guys. I know it seems off for a convention that is wel-known for bringing big names to Orlando and has been around for ages or more like for years can have something wrong. Trust me, I missed doing interviews during MegaCon because I had so much fun doing them. If you saw my interview with Chris Rager and Josh Martin, you can see me having a lot of fun! Heck, when I interviewed RJ Heady about Face Off it was so interesting! You can see me, doing this and bringing it all to you so you guys can see what I experienced. That is why the new panel that Nerdy SHirts thought up of is going to show how I became press from an attendee and into an author because I am published now with a second book on its way. Even working on my third book at the moment. Heck, during the Totally Spies Reunion panel, they asked people to tell who they are and got applause for mentioning I was an author. (You will see in that video when I put it up here.)

That is it, most emotional post I’ve ever done and pure honesty. So, hoping for the best for us in the future and hoping that we do get Holiday Matsuri this year. I would say, if you still love MegaCon, keep going to it! Please don’t send any hate because of what we went through. We learned a lot from what we experienced and hoping things do get better and they will. We have learned from it and know that there are other conventions willing to open their doors to us despite how small or how much biggere we’re growing.

Well, hoping the next post is more lighthearted. Until next time!

Books: The Expansion by Christoph Martin

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I have another book review for you today and I thought I would take longer than expected but nope! Let’s get started!

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts and opinions of the lead writer and producer of this blog! Please respect her thoughts and opinions on the book that is being reviewed. There might be spoilers that may want you to read the book when it releases!

Title: The Expansion
Author: Cristoph Martin

Synopsis: We meet Max Burns who ends up in a lot of trouble in this book. When the body of the senior official of the Panama Canal’s expansion is found dead, suspicion is pointed at Max alongside sabotage and murder along with political betrayal and intrigue in the Central America area of Panama. He can only turn to Carice Dean, a scientist with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, but little did he know that she holds a secret aobut herself that may either cost him his life or arrest.

Thoughts: At first I thought I wasn’t going to read this book from NetGalley’s collection since lately I haven’t had much luck until I was approved for this book. I was glad since the description made me interested when I got an email about authors from the U. K. offering books this summer and thought it would be interesting.

I thought it was going to be set in the 1920’s at first since that was around the time the Panama Canal was built but was wrong, this was a book set in the 2000s. It does make sense since we do have advances in technology than back when the original canal was built. I did like how the book shown all the characters that were going to be involved throughout the chapters as I read, which it started with Max losing his parents and being with his friend Gotfrito and how his best friend would play his role in the story later on with a reunion in Panama. Then we see Carice in how she starts her role by being at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Center with her roommate and colleague and we find out her secret later on in the book. There are times when books do shove the characters up front and don’t tell who they are or do and just briefly and just stay for the rest of the book which is a hard thing with character development but Martin does paint the characters very well as I kept reading. I did feel that Carice’s and Max’s relationship was a bit forced since Max was supposed to get married but the split happens when he was going on this project, I would let you read this book to see how that happened. I felt with Max meeting Carice was meet at a party and have one night and she’s gone for most of the story, I wished he could’ve met her slightly earlier like visiting the canal site or something and then it would start naturally as time goes on before she had to leave for a few years until they had to cross paths again.

The murder, on the other hand, I thought it would be happening as the story starts but I can see why it took until close to the ending chapters since it brings the important characters into the book and how events are happening and how it does lead into the murder. I think I prefer the story with a murder that way without starting the book with body on ground and they look at the most likely suspect and just have Max go through chapter on chapter to see why was it him until the end. I think putting key players in first and then the mystery works out better than mystery and then key players. I can see how this story was in his head and has stuck with Martin for a while, trust me the idea for my third book which I have been working on a little bit lately was the same way. It is like a bee buzzing around you until you have to hit it to stop bothering you. I bet with the next one it is the same way since Martin did say he is working on a sequel, which will be out next year. I can’t wait how that will be looking like since there were a few loose ends as I finished the book that need to be tied up. I have to wait!

Rating: 5 Star Pawprints Out of 5! This book deserves the five since I feel like the book did build up to the murder very well. It brought in the characters that are going to be important and then gives the set up towards the murder and the fingers to be pointed at the unsuspected when it takes place with sabotage and murder. It did make me suspect someone else, which most mysteries do, but at the same time it made it more interesting with how the story builds to the climax in the book. I can’t wait what Christoph Martin has in store for the next one next year! Hoping it will fill in some loose ends and see how the canal expansion finishes up.

Well, that is about it for this review! I would say look out for this book on Amazon in paperback and as an EBook coming soon!Until next time here at Nerdy Shique Universe!

Anime: ANime That Should Be Dubbed

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Finally I get around to do my list of anime that should be dubbed.

I know it is weird to see me talk about this but there are times when anime doesn’t get dubbed and as a blind person it is hard for me to watch it and I don’t always have Gondras right next to me to read subtitles. That is why I stopped going to anime clubs even one back at my school that only shows the subbed versions of anime that is already dubbed. I do admit I have one that hasn’t been dubbed which I will get to in a moment so that is why I decided to do this list to say which ones that should have an English adaptation either by Viz, Sentai Filmworks, or the big tamale themselves, Funimation!

Arakawa Under the Bridge: An anime series from 2011, Arakawa Under the Bridge has been a fave of mine and my buddies and I do have the first season on DVD and Blue Ray since Nipponichi USA brought it over here but not dubbed which makes me sad! This anime introduces Kou Ichinomiya a guy who always follows the major rule that his family always puts on him is that “Never be in debt to anybody.” Until his life was saved underneath the Arakawa Bridge by a girl named Nino and promises to pay her back by being her boyfriend and his new life begins. This anime has a lot of comedy and irony to it such as two boys who wear helmets that cover their faces so people won’t see them to a guy named “Sister” in a nun’s habit, this anime is beyond the idea of absurdity and it is also hilarious! I wish I got season two because I only got two episodes in through the anime club I used to be a part of in town but stopped showing it and I remembered how Nino, who believes she is from space, has to go back home to Venus and she had a magical girl transformation and it was amazing!
Who Should Dub This? I think Funimation should dub this because they can do comedy very well. I can imagine Ian Sinclair being Sister since his voice is deep enough to match Takehito Koyasu’s voice and possibly Brina Palencia as Nino since she can do a pretty good dead pan voice with her own.

Katanano Gatari: Another one from Nipponichi that wasn’t dubbed is called Katana no Gatari. This anime tells the story of Yasuri Chichika who is a swordsman without a sword and Togame, who is gathering the twelve swords for the Shogunate. He sets out across Edo era Japan to gather these swords and in order to prove his loyalty to Togame, since he is the son of an exiled warrior, he must fall in love. This anime has hour long episodes and that is why it should be dubbed. When Gondras read me the subtitles, it took forever to get through the episodes and I felt like I prefer it in English over the Japanese version because I could understand the story a lot better. I also think the story would be explained more since with English the story can be told in a better light.
Who should dub this one? I feel that Sentai Filmworks should dub this one because they have done a lot of period stories and they do it pretty well. Some of my faves included Gin Saga, Kino’s Journey, and many others from the ADV days. Plus, with how much better they got in dubbing like with Angel Beats, they can handle this one and its story.

Occult Academy: This anime was one of the ones I hoped to come dubbed but nope! We meet Maya, daughter of the former headmaster of Waldstein Academy, and in 2012 the world is invaded by aliens and time travelers. Doctor Who much? Anyways, Fumiaki is sent back to 1999 in order to destroy the Nostridamus Key to keep the invasion from happening and he meets Maya in the past in order to find it to destroy it. This anime would’ve been great as a dub because it has a great supernatural tone to it and we are living in the time where Doctor Who is at its popularity, well bigger popularity with how great Season Ten is. I did like this one and its theme song.
Who Should Get This One? I would give this one to Funimation because they have a very dynamic staff and I think their actors can keep that supernatural feel in script and cast. I can see Austin Tindle as Fumiaki and Jad Saxton as Maya since I can imagine her with a slight British voice.

My Monster Secret AKA Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa: I know GOndras would be happy if I put this on the list and it is My Monster Secret or in Japan, Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa since he loves this series so much! Trust me, try having him talk about it most of the time. Anyways, We meet Asahi Kuromine who is known for not being able to keep a secret has his poker face tested when he sees his classmate Yoko Shiramine sprout wings from her back and having bats fly around her and that is when he finds out she is a vampire. Not only he has to keep her secret but also other classmates’ secrets like the class president being a space alien and the class perv being a werewolf. Not only that, their principal being a demon and the teacher her daughter! Yes, this series sounds like a cute slice of life story and it is pretty much. There is a twelve episode anime out in Japan but it hasn’t been dubbed which Gondras would like.
Who should get this one? I am thinking Viz should get this one since they do pretty good jobs on supernatural type slice of life stories such as Vampire Knight and they are re-dubbing Salor Moon which I wish Hulu would have Season 3 already. I can imagine Asahi probably being played by Ben Discan using his Umino voice or Bryce Papenbrook as Asahi and Stephanie Sheh being Yoko.

Junjo Romantica: I know Vivi would be happy if I mentioned this one since it is her fave series. I tried to see for a synopsis but all I got from Wikipedia said it’s a yaoi and slice of life anime series that was adapted from manga. Hmmm! Interesting!
Who should have this one? It is hard to say but I would think Sentai Filmworks should have this one since they can do a better job than Right Stuff in my opinion.

Well, that is it for this list so far! I don’t know what else to put but you can comment down below if you have a fave anime that should be dubbed.

What is next for Nerdy Shique Universe? How to keep yourself from turning into a Wheeaboo. Until next time!

Books: The Jekyl Revelation by Robert Marsello

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Now I have another book to review!

Title: The Jekyl Revelation
Author:Robert Masello

Disclaimer: This review is based on observations and opinions of the lead writer and producer of this blog! Please respect her thoughts and opinions and there might be spoilers!

Synopsis: This book is a thriller and science fiction book where it goes between England in the 1800s to present day California. We meet Rafeal, an environmental scientist, finds a trunk in the middle of lake while on patrol in Topanga Canyon that unlocks items from the past such as a top hat to a cane and a small trunk that contains a journal that contains the entries of the famous writer Robert Louis Stevenson. The entries tell his tale of how he faced tuberculosis and gets over it but the experiment turned him into the creature that inspired his famous story, Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde!

Even though the story unravels for Rafe but his life in the canyon has become even more dangerous when he finds a meth lab in the canyon that leads to risking his life along with the woman he rented a trailer from and may cause a psychotic drug addict wanting the journal before he knows where the story takes him next and how the trunk ended up in the lake in the first place.

Thoughts: I don’t know guys! I feel like this book was a bit meh but at the same time it was compelling. I did like how it switched from present day to the past which I read in the author’s notes at the end that he loves to do the switch between present and the past to tell his stories. He even warned the readers not to try and write a paper based on his books which some of the parts are fiction since we are supposed to enjoy the book.

I remembered reading the play version of the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde in my senior year of high school and I ended up reading the part of Dr. Jekyl which I did it better than the dude who read Mr. Hyde. Try having the guy crushing on you at the time looking over and being amazed. (Not kidding!) I did like the idea how the past pages told the tale of Stevenson and how he became Hyde and due to the elixir he was given by the doctor he saw about his condition in the beginning and somehow the stepson got his paws on it and then he became Hyde. As I read, it does show how he was worried about the stepson and worried in how he created the monster that he was inspired to write. I wished at some points that the present stuff would’ve had a somewhat of a conclusion before transitioning into the past since I wondered at some points where it cut off and goes to Stevenson as “What happened?” For instance, there was a part in the book where the break cables in Rafe’s jeep were cut and his partner and him were about to hit a lake and wondered what happened to them but it didn’t reveal when they go back to the present! Or I think I fell asleep since I read it at night and Kindle loved to keep going. If Bookshare or NLS Bard get this book I will read it all the way!

I would say this book is a way of showing that no matter where you are,w hether it is a tiny canyon or in England, monsters can be created which I saw in this book. Whether it is due to drugs which I saw in the present day parts with the character Lazlo and how he worked with a motorcycle gang, the Spirits, he was pretty much greedy in getting the journal thinking it was treasure in a small box, or seeing Lloyd, Stevenson’s stepson, taking on the character that was supposed to be fictional and how he harmed women. But in the end, the good will prevail somehow such as seeing Lazlo dying in a major meth lab accident where the fire spread all over the canyon due to a stupid move, and seeing Lloyd lost at sea in the Samoan islands after jumping on the boat that during a storm for Stevenson to live another day.

Reting: 4 Star Pawprints Out of 5! This book deserves a four since I felt that it was good but at the same time kind of felt like the transitions were too fast to me. Yes, it had a strong start of the whole rising action and the start of the conflict such as the trunk, the idea of illegal meth labs happening, and starting to see the past through Stevenson’s journal. I think some of the story should’ve had two or three instances of the present having its tale being told in a complete way and then transition to the past to tell the journal pages which I saw in some instances in the beginning of the book. I think it would’ve slowed down and let me enjoy the book a bit more. I did like the past being weaved in to show that someone left something in the canyon and how it got there and how it connected the dots through the journal which was interesting. Wishing the present parts were told more conclusively and hoping there is a recorded version. I may have to see Marsellp’s other works if they are available.

That is it for this review! I am reading a newer book by someone in the UK and it is a long one but it’s pretty good so far! Let’s see how long it will take me. In the meantime, I will try and do the Anime That Should Be Dubbed list. Until next time!

Also…I found out from GOndras that Adam West died. Rest in peace original Batman! Too bad we didnb’t get to meet you last year at MegaCon Orlando.

Books: Leather Pants (Happy Pants #2) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I have another review on a Mimi Jean Pamfiloff book!

Title: Leather Pants: Happy Bants Book 2

Disclaimer: This review is based on opinion and Observation by the lead writer and producer of this blog! Please respect her thoughts and opinions and warning there might be spoilers!

Synopsis: This book is the sequel to Tailored for Trouble and the second book in the Happy Pants series and I was excited to read this one after reading the first one! We meet Sarah, Taylor’s best friend, who is a judge in San Francisco who is really serious about her career and how she got there by missing the fun of life to get where she is including not falling in love until she gets the fateful cookie from the Happy Pants café as a birthday gift from Taylor. She eats the cookie and ends up fruning into the guy who is the main part of a case and he is the famous singer Colton Young and they had a bit of a one night together in a club bathroom which little did she know it ended up as blackmail material against her and Colton in order to give him community service, which ends up at the Happy Pants Ranch to help Ms. Lucy everyday in time for his new tour. As time goes on, Sarah starts falling for the bad boy and not only that learns about a secret about him that his fans don’t know about and she is the only one that can really help him and risk her career along with it.

Thoughts: Whoa! This book was amazing and it was a great sequel to the first! Normally the sequel is not as great as the first but I think this one slightly better than the first. How so? Well, since this is supposed to be a romantic comedy and I laughed a lot more during this book than the first. I did have small chuckles during the first but this one I had a bit more because of how awkward Sarah was being around Colt when he comes closer to her and she just feels her heart flutter even when he wears the leather pants she loves him for. I can see how she cared for him throughout the book when he went through his moods and willing to help him in anyway he can and he did get jealous whenever his brother tried to dance with her at a charity event that Bennet Wade, Taylor’s husband, held and you can see how he was getting overprotective of her through the entire story. I know that feeling since my fiancé, Gondras, is pretty protective of me too and if anyone does me any wrong he does want to help me.

My fave part of the entire book would probably be during the charity event where the crowd asks Colt to sing and they don’t know that he has forgotten his old songs and Sarah went up to sing for him but almost cabaret and it was a way of saving him from embarrassment when he tried to say, “No.” It was kind of cute for her to distract the crowd and it shown her fearless side even if she couldn’t sing from how the book described it. There are times when I don’t want to be onstage singing even in front of my best buddies while playing Rock Band and just stick to my shower with “Bohemian Rhapsody” or New Found Glory.

Rating: 5 Star Pawprints Out of 5! Like with Mr. Rook’s Island, I give this a five as well! This book was entertaining and it did bring me more laughs than the first. I didn’t want to close up Kindle even when I am in bed listening to it on Kindle. If you are into romantic comedies like I am, this will be your major cup of tea! I would say check out Tailored for Trouble since that starts the series and how the Happy Pants cookies are and why they are so special, which is funny at the end of the book when she is with Colt she does realize that the cookie was eaten on her birthday and forgot all about it and he did lick some of the crumbs from somewhereon her that night. I can’t wait for the next one, Skinny Pants, where we get to see Taylor’s older brother who was divorced gets to meet his girl and be the next Happy Pants cookie victim!

That is about it! I am hoping more of the MegaCon Orlando videos do go up on YouTube so you can watch our experience during this year’s event. You can still see the Tom Wilson Q&A, the Stan Lee Q&A, and the Princess Bride script reading! Until next time!

Conventions: Voice Actors Script Reading from MegaCon Orlando 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for another set of videos for you all!

Panel: Voice Actors Script Reading!

So, next one that was uploaded happened to be the script reading during Saturday’s events. I wasn’t there for it and wishing I was since it was Princess Bride which is a very important pop culture film from the 90’s! At least Nerdy Shirts was able to record this one since the Flash panel earlier that afternoon didn’t allow it. This panel had the voice actors read the script and I did see a bit of it and it was pretty good. Reason why was I found a comment on my phone since I do upload my beauty videos through the app.

I hope you all enjoy the videos and laugh along with it! Hoping we can get more of the panel videos on here on Word Press as time goes on since we also got video of Billy West’s panel, Mike McFarland’s, and many more! Stay tuned!

Conventions: Stan Lee Q&A Panel from MegaCon Orlando 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, going a bit out of order again with the MegaCon coverage since part two of Brina Palencia’s panel is not up yet so I decided to put up Stan Lee’s panel next!

Stan Lee Panel!

So, the first day of MegaCon ended with a bang and that is a huge one with Stan Lee! Apparently this is supposed to be his final year at a Florida con and the good thing is that we got to catch him at this convention even though would’ve been cool to interview him AHEM! But couldn’t! Hey, at least we got to go to his panel in the end.

What I found interesting was that he never been to Universal all the years he has been here for conventions and he does mention that in this panel. Gondras was in line with people to ask questions but due to him being late to his panel due to photo ops Gondras didn’t get a chance. At least he was there for the panel that night. I did mention what his advice was to new writers and I am keeping that to heart since I am a new author to add to my Freelance Writer and Lead Writer and Producer of this blog since I am about to have my second book released this fall.

I would say enjoy the panel video and hoping I get some of the other voice actor stuff up here but it looks like the Script Reading panel is next! Until next time!

Books: Mr. Rook’s Island Volume 1 by. Mimi Jean Pamiloff (Coming out This Month!)

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Now to take a break from convention stuff to have a new book review that is coming out on June 13!

Title: Mr. Rook
Author: Mimi Jean Pamiloff

Disclaimer: This review is based on opinion and observation of the lead writer and producer! Please respect her thoughts and opinions since she did read the book!

Synopsis: Welcome to Mr. Rook’s Island where you can have an exciting journey or just finding the long awaited fantasy you ever dreamed of such as sailing with a pirate or even looking for a treasure in the caves like Indiana Jones! You can have it all on an island near the Bermuda Triangle where you can get lost in a fantasy you desire! Unless you are Stephanie Fitzgerald, on the other hand, who is trying to find her sister after finding out that she has vanished and the last place she was in is at Mr. Rook’s Island but finds out that she is getting into secrets that the island has that not everyone knows about and something about Mr. Rook that she wants to know until she falls for the mysterious man with the mysterious island.

Thoughts: Damn! This book was steamy like crazy! Even the air conditioner and fan in my room wasn’t working while I was reading this book!

All I have to say is that Mimi has done it again with her writing! I have read Tailored for Trouble, Accidentally In Love With a [God?] from BookShare, and Ten Club and now this new one! This is supposed to be the first of a new series which she had a hard time to know what to write and I can relate myself since I am about to write my third book and it is kind of hard knowing where to start the story or how to start the words. Anyways, she wanted to do three separate ones from what I read in the end and then she combined it into this new one which she also hinted to the next book which I can’t wait!

I thought it was clever that she would set the island near the Bermuda Triangle since we all know that the Triangle itself is a mysterious place where people in planes or ships would disappear and having an island right on the edge kind of makes sense since you don’t know where you are going exactly, where you send some of your fortune to, and you hardly get any signal out there which makes sense! Plus, this book makes it seem like a steamy version of Gilligan’s Island but you have women meeting men for many fantasy excursions to fill their own dreams as a way to get away from cheating husbands or just want to enjoy the end of your life for once. Doesn’t that sound like a nice cruise for a week? I wouldn’t mind staying in a bungalow with a hot man rubbing my feet after a long convention weekend.

Now onto the characters! Like always, Mimi seems to bring on a sultry and sexy man and a very spunky woman and I saw it in Stephanie and Rook! Stephanie kind of not only has the spunk but she does have a guarded side which you see a lot in this first book which she hates how anyone touches her due to the pain of losing her sister but she starts letting it down when she meets Rook for the first time which she starts feeling the attraction towards to him. I kind of feel like I was reading Accidentally In Love Book 1 again since this couple reminds me of Guy and Emma from that but Stephanie shows more of the mistrusting side and doesn’t have Rook whisper inside her head all the time. I hope her character does get developed more as the story goes on since I want to read more of this series and see how she and Rook get along after how it ended.

What about the love making? Oh man! I would say it’s even more steamier than the romance scenes in Midnight Breed Series! I felt like I need a glass of wine despite that I don’t drink due to being lightweight or unless I would have some Lindor Truffles while reading it but my face….my face! It was turning strawberry red from all the blushing! Heck, I was hearing “Careless Whisper” in my head, even Hyde’s (dude from L’Arc`en`Ciel) singing it while reading it. Girls! If you are 31 like me, pick up this book if you are into steamy romances!

Rating: 5 Star Pawprints out of 5! Damn! Yet another fiver here! I am hoping the next one is as good as this and also fill in blanks as well since the ending was pretty good and the dots were about to start connecting and knowing the next one will do the same! I highly, highly recommend if you are late twenties early thirties and need a very good romance story to relax yourself from a long day of work or just sit down and enjoy something with your gal pals!

Look out for Mr. Rook out June 13th!

That is it for this review! I am reading one of Mimi’s other books to catch up in the Happy Pants series so you will see my review next on that!

Update on MegaCon videos: Nerdy Shirts is getting the videos up, it’s taking a while since the upload speed at his place is slow but he is getting videos up as he can. So, I am keeping an eye out and then will post the Brina Palencia panel along with others here! Stay tuned!

Conventions: Tom Wilson Panel from MegaCon 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time to continue the MegaCon coverage!

Panel: Tom Wilson Q&A

One of the panels we have attended was for Tom Wilson. For those of you who haven’t seen or heard, who hasn’t, the Back to the Future trilogy you may remember this guy as the main bully, Bif! He is also in Spngebob as Flats the Flounder if you guys remembered that episode way back when.

Hope you enjoy this and his “Questions Song” since deals with the FAQs people always ask and he answers with it.

What panel is next? Hoping with the videos keep being uploaded, Brina Palencia’s panel from the first day is up next!

Music: Top Ten Songs of May 2017

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for the top ten songs of May 2017! I feel like music should help me get over the deep MegaCon blues since now I have an urge to keep me from choosing the third option of statements to say like in Mass Effect. I rather not get into it but let’s see what I got this month!

10. “MST3K Theme Song”: Styarting this list off was a song that was supposed to be on the list last month! So, MST3K is now back all thanks to a kick starter to bring it back and that means the song is back! It is very catchy and this time with Felicia Day it makes it even more catchier with the cute little beat. Try having Gondras singing it most of the time and ends up in your head all the time. Still a great song!
9. “Gong” by JAM Project: Next is a song from the past and my days with THEE X and that is by JAM Project and the song is called “Gong.” How I got into JAM Project was all thanks to an anime called SoulTaker and they did the song for it which THEE X got me into them by not only giving me music by them but me looking for their stuff. One song in particular that was really epic was “Gong” which was used in Super Robot Wars if I remembered and it makes you hot blooded and does lift you up even with a gong being hit. What got me to listen to this song again is due to JAM Project being at Otakon this year and damn it! I want to do press and see them and cover it to post on the YouTube channel!
8. “Fire Escape” by Fastball: Lately, I’ve been on a ‘90s kick with music. This one song was one that I had fun singing and that is “Frie Escape” by Fastball. If this song sounds familiar well it did appear in Dawson’s Creek episode years ago when Fastball was popular or am I confusing it with Roswell, I forget! Still, I love this song more than the “Way” since it kind of had a better sound and better lyrics and it is one of those songs you can chill with and it deals with being oneself as its message. Man, I feel like I’m thirteen again when I had their album.
7. “Surrender” by Cheap Trick: I don’t get why I can’t get this song out of my head and that is “Surrender” by Cheap Trick! All thanks to Guardians Volume 2 having this in the credits I can’t get it out of my head! I even remembered them performing it live when me, Gondras, and two of our buddies caught them in town at a free show. Not only that it was also in Guitar Hero as a track. Still a good rock song and always an ear worm!
6. “Gravity” by Papa Roach: Okay, I had to mention this one because it has been on the radio almost everyday and that is “Gravity” by Papa Roach. Even though this song is from the albums that they had them change their sound but I do like the chorus. I still remember them from their “Last Resort” days but this almost goes back to those days even though it has more hip hop to it. When you look at it,they were more of hip hop with metal like Linkin Park was. Don’t worry, none of the new Linkin Park will be on any list!
5. “It’s All Been Done” by the Barenaked Ladies: I did say I was on a ‘90’s kick lately and this is another song on that kick and that is “It’s All Been Done” by the Barenaked Ladies! I had an interesting music taste as a teen and Barenaked Ladies was one of those bands I liked. Reason being is that they had a very unque sound and lyric choice. Try quoting the one line about Chinese chicken from “One Week” when I crave honey chicken. Anyways, this song, on the other hand, has been my fave for the longest time and always sticks with me to this day. Plus, I am wondering with that one line in the song “Will I cry, will I smile, while we run down the aisle?” towards me and Gondras even though now we are married in some of our friends’ eyes. Who knows if I will cry or smile when that day does come!
4. “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls: Next is another important song from my start in pop/rock music in middle school is “Iris” by GooGoo Dolls. I loved this song and how cute it is due to how it is a love song. I even catch myself singing along when it comes up on I Heart Radio while in the shower. It does also have a beautiful violin and guitar sound to it too whiuch makes me want to listen to it over and over. If this was on Rock Band I would definitely sing it if the room wasn’t filled to the back ::laughs nervously::
3. “All My Best Friends Are Metalheads” by Less Than Jake: I blame Bennet the Sage for this entry! How so? Well, he reviewed the Digimon movie and this song was on the soundtrack and in the movie which is by Less Than Jake and it’s called “All My Best Friends Are Metal Heads!” It is playing when Matt and T. K. are riding on the back of motorcycle so they can get to the nearest computer in town to fight Diaboromon with Tai and Izzy. Paul St. Peter is still awesome at voicing the big bads in this movie and wonder if he uses that voice for any haunted houses. Still, this song has an awesome ska beat to it and would be fun to play it on the way to either Omni Expo or MetroCon in Tampa if we were to go back to do press.
2. “GITSUNE (“ by. BabyMetal: Next is a song by BabyMetal again and don’t want to try and spell it again, lol! Anyways, I love this song because it has an awesome metal beat to it and it kind of gives you a video game fighting song vibe too.
1. “The Violence” by Rise Against: My final entry on this month’s list and it is by Rise Against and it is their newest song “The Violence!” Yes, Rise Against made new music and can’t wait for the newest album either since I did love their Black Market album a lot! I did hear another great song from whatever they are releasing but I do love the lyrics in this song since it seems to paint our world right now even with all the violence taking place especially in Manchester, England recently. Plus, I do think this would make an awesome anime theme song due to the lyrics ask, “Are we Strong enoguh? Are we brave enough?” Doesn’t t shonen right there? Hope this will make it into Rock Band 4 since thiy do get the latest Rise Against stuff which the last tracks they had for three was from End Game with “Help Is On It’s Way.” Wouldn’t mind singing this one!

Well, that is it for May’s list! Let’s see what June holds for music! Make sure you’re following us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates!
