Accessibility: Using Soundscape At Millennia Mall!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Today is another Accessibility Review!

Using Soundscape in Mall at Millennia!

As you know, I have been using the Soundscape app developed by Microsoft on my phone. It’s a GPS location app where you can know where you are, what’s around you, and what’s ahead of you. You can also place a beacon on a place to help you find it if you need to catch your ride on time.

I already have used this app while going to Walgreens near me and the Altamonte Mall to see if it works in an indoor place and it does. I did tell the guy who introduced me to my very beautiful Braille Sense Polaris about that tidbit because he has a friend who wondered about that and that answered their question to see if it could work in a mall. So, I wanted to try this app at other malls in town and decided to try it out in the Millennia Mall which is a huge tourist spot here in Orlando. Yes, some of the stores are upscale but some of my fave ones are here which include Lush, Bath & Body Works, MAC, GameStop, Apple, and NYX.
W
Hay I had to stop here is because I needed more of my Celestial Moisturizer from Lush since that is the only moisturizer that works on my sensitive skin besides coconut oil. I use this moisturizer before I put on my primer to put on makeup and it does make a difference since my skin has been improving thanks to this and other things. I also needed to go to NYX to get another Light Concealer Jar and wanted to get their translucent powder which I have heard good things about.

What Happened? Well…not much! As in, I felt like this mall was not a good environment for this app because whenever I walked around with my dad to get to the NYX store all I heard, “Heading in this direction Millennia Mall!” It didn’t point any of the stores out while leaving from the food court heading towards the NYX Store which was on the bottom floor. It didn’t point out Bath & Body Works either which over in Altamonte it was pointed out and I kind of figured out why nothing was pointed out except the Apple Store after passing by it. I could have seen on the other side to see if it would point out any of the stores, especially the really luxury ones like Versacci and Bloomingdale’s. I think the issue was…

Issues? It’s the noise in the mall and I’m talking about the really loud music you tend to hear throughout the mall. Ever since this mall has opened back in the early 2000s, which was my high school years by the way, there were these little TV screen panels hanging over the center of the mall which align with the Food Court on the top floor. You hear surround sound orchestra music and now they added more modern music to it. You also tend to hear the music from inside whatever store you were in. I still remembered the echo of it when I was inside Waldenbooks when it was in that mall when it first opened. (Trust me, I still miss it!) I think the music and the echo of it throughout the mall was not helping Soundscape be able to detect the stores inside but it did really detect Apple on the bottom floor which surprised me and even told me that I was in the parking lot when we got outside. Seriously? It did it over the roar of waterfalls outside, oh yeah this mall is upscale on the outside. I’m not bashing on either one but I think Soundscape needs an update soon in detecting more places and not only that, forgot to mention…

More to Improve! I feel like the app needs to improve on the area you’re in. I didn’t get to mention in this first review but whenever I’m in a store it keeps on mentioning its distance. For instance, standing in Barnes & Noble, it still says, “B&N 12 Meters!” It should just say along when you hit the “My Location” button, “You are in Barnes & Noble!!” Then proceeds to tell the places next door to that place rather than just making it sound you’re not there.

Another thing is is still the Meters to My Right Or Left which can help even more. I’m glad that this app works but Millennia is not the mall for this app, I can’t say they should take down that music display since that seems to be a favorite thing among the visitors. I would say just go without Soundscape and go with friends for sighted help or if you have it, AIRA with you because more blind people are getting those glasses nowadays. If you don’t have AIRA and still want that sighted support through your phone, Be My Eyes is another option.

Well, that’s my use of Soundscape in another mall! I’m stil wanting to put this app to the test at Florida Mall to see how well it can detect its maze of stores and see if it can detect the hotel part. That may have to wait since a lot of things are coming up the next few months! So, anything new? Not yet, just follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for our updates!

Conventions: Omni Fandom Expo 2018: The Most Inspirational Anime Convention Year!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I’m back from Omni Expo 2018 and man I am exhausted but feel inspired! How so? Well, this year was a huge inspirational convention and there were things that took place that were things that made me not feel inspired but an inspiration on its own. I will explain as the review goes on.

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts, opinions, and observation of the lead writer of this blog. Please respect her thoughts on this convention and thank you!

Man! This year was a huge year for Omni Expo and let’s see let’s start with location!

Location: This year Omni Expo was at the Florida Hotel again since it was a success at this location a year ago. Last year, the format was a little weird because of Panel Room 1 being close to the vendor hall and the Main Events Room and so on, this year they changed it up slightly. Instead of having Panel Room 1 close to Vendors, they put it closer to the Gamin Rooms and Panel Room 2 which 2 was changed and was a bit bigger from last year. As in, PR 2 is not as tiny, I don’t feel like my claustrophobia was being affected, it was just longer and had more chairs in the audience area. PR 1, on the other hand, it was wider! As in, it seems like they wanted these rooms to be bigger than last year’s rooms and glad they went with that especially with more people attendee this convention. Yes, there was a bigger turn out this year that I’ve noticed and glad to see that with this year. Heck, someone even posted on the Florida Mall Facebook saying, “There are so many people with weird colored hair, armor, and more.” This is what happens when you hold a convention, heck I still remember walking past Auntie Ann’s last year as Link and everyone followed with their gazes.

Vendors Hall: This year’s Vendors Hall felt like it was the same size as last year. Even though I was hoping Surreal Makeup would be back for this year since there was one item I did see I would like to get but they weren’t there which sucked a little. Hoping to catch them again somewhere at Holiday Matsuri if we get press again or just buy from their website. I did find something nice that I did end up picking up and that is a Pink Ranger lunch box from the same guy who sells a lot of old school stuff even from Power Rangers. It is the classic Mighty Morphen Pink Ranger and as you know it brings back so many memories and when I was around that age I didn’t get any Power Rangers stuff except the movie items from McDonald’s when I was about to go into the fourth grade and wanted to see that movie but saw Pocahontas instead. This lunch box does come in handy to carry food in even for convention time when I do carry sandwiches and other things, heck I think it’s roomier than my Dead Pool Chimichanga truck lunch box. We did bump into the Japanese snacks guy we always love buying from since he spotted me through my Rarity cosplay and I thought he wouldn’t be selling at the convention but silly kitty or shall I say unicorn me was glad to see him and did get another mystery bag and a bag of strawberry Kit Kats to try out! Look out for a video on that! Besides the vendors, they did bring back some of the vehicles they had on display, which we did hear the Jurassic Park theme song playing in the back and that was next to Rob Simms’s table. We mostly mingled with some of the other guests, I did get to talk to Mesumi Sempai a little bit since I never got to talk to her one on one and she is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. We did talk to Paul St. Peter again since we have interviewed him last year and it was sad that he didn’t bring back Pirate Curses. We did go to two of his other panels which….

Events & Panels: This year was eventful! Even more than last year! I can see why there was a bigger turn out since there were a lot of guests coming including Sawa who was the Japanese singer that was invited this year, we wanted to interview her but due to her being on high demand for interviews and her schedule being busy we will be arranging a Skype interview sometime soon. We did go to her acoustic show Saturday night and if you haven’t seen her live I would suggest to do so! We do have both of her CDs and I will probably do a review of them whenever I can get the time to do it since now I’ve been pretty busy. I did get brought to tears during one of her songs since it was very touching and hearing it acoustic made it even more special. She did do one medley but don’t want to tell you guys about it since she did say not to record that one but the others you could. I did like the song “What Is Wrong with Me?” since that is also a sticker you could get for free at her table and can’t wait to hear the album version. We did go to her panel on Sunday and it was very educational because we get to learn about the bath houses and she shown pictures of the one her family owns. It’s interesting to learn that like with apprenticeships, where you take up some of the more cultural things like being a Geisha and puppetry, it is starting to become a bit of a dying breed due to people in Japan starting to get their own bathrooms to take showers and baths in. If you’re visiting Japan at all, I would say visit them or even Sawa’s family’s bathhouse since we have seen them in anime and movies why not check out the real one? Also, meet Sawa if she is at a convention near you because she is a major sweetheart!

Besides going to Sawa’s stuff, we did go to, well I did go to the Crystal Carnivale ball since it was RWBY themed this year. As you know, Gondras and I are huge fans and well we did have a bit of a hiccup at the door. The thing was Gondras was supposed to be my escort despite not being formally dressed, I thought he would do his Fourth Doctor but he didn’t since it would be a little hot in the Florida Mall Hotel despite it being cold at night, I know the weather should have happened during Holiday Matsuri. Anyways, when we got to the door, they wouldn’t allow Gondras in even though we asked the staff it was okay and apparently word didn’t get to the volunteers at the door. I didn’t want to waste the $5 and went in anyways. One of the staff members did find me and apologized for what had happened at the door and was appreciative for what we have done ever since the convention started. I did spend the rest of the hour there but felt bad for Gondras even though they wanted him back in and I tried telling him to come back which they said it was okay, he didn’t want to. I did try having fun at least and got to see the Nora cosplayer, since she is one of my fave characters from the series, perform even if I couldn’t see it. The funny thing though, not sure if they got the vibe from my dress or something, the room was split into red and white tables representing Team RWBY and Team JNPR and when you entered the ball you were given a pack of buttons with clothes pins in the color representing that team and I was already sitting at a white tablecloth table and asked what color was the clothespin and it was white. I did joke in my notes, “Maybe they knew I had a Team JNPR shirt?” Which is true, I have it in my closet again to go with my new RWBY chiffon skirt and hat! I did reunite with Gondras and we go to the Creating Good Guys panel and Bad Guys panels that night since I am a writer after all and have been on a major writer’s block with my third book and getting back into it, it was interesting in my opinion since it did give me new insights in how I should take my story. I even asked advice from Kaz LeFave and Mimi Jean Pamfiloff recently and I thank them for that. In between both of those panels, we did attend Derek Steven Prince’s Jeopardy panel which I did put on our itinerary as a possible thing to do. We did participate in it and winning lets you spend an hour with him. Did we win? Yes! It was a challenge with most of the questions and we got to learn more about him before the interview which you will catch on our YouTube soon which that was our entire hour with him. He did come into the Creating Bad Guys panel and sit in on it. I think we do have video from that so you will get to see the Good Guys and Bad Guys panels.

Many other events and panels we went to include the two panels that Bruce Carr also known as No Ordinary Balloon Man which if you haven’t catched him at a con, you should because he does a lot of balloon creations. This year he went all Digimon with Wyrmon, Tai, and the Digimon Emperor! We did see Josh Seth stand next to the Tai creation during the weekend which was awesome. What panel stood out between the two he had done was Twisting Up the Odds because what was interesting about him is that he has Asperger’s along with Evan, which we also catch with him and records video of his creations, and it was a very inspirational panel. One thing I have to say is that being disabled people think you can’t do anything and it’s heartbreaking to see that. I did help with making a penguin because Bruce pulled me up to the front due to his story about how he went into balloon making and that he and I recreated the penguin he had made for a boy that not only his condition but was also blind and that he came to me for that it brought tears of joy. Heck, trying to keep my composure here! I still have the penguin and knowing that my final review part may make you guys cry so have the tissues because I may need them too! Another event on a happier note, the Live Script Reading! This year’s script reading was very entertaining and it included Sawa, Paul, Derek, Josh, one of the cosplay guests, and Rob Simms and the scripts they had included from Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2, and Fifth Element. Perfect timing for Guardians 2 since they had the scenes with Taser Face and the one where Groot had to get Yandu’s fin back. In the Taser Face thing, Sawa played the part of Rocket and she did pretty well and she did narrate the Yandu and Groot part where Josh was Rocket, Rob was Groot, and Derek was Yandu. He gave him the Veemon voice from what I was noticing and it fit! I still busted out laughing with the human toe part! That still gets me even when how the audio description read it out to me while seeing the movie a year ago. And another event was Josh Seth’s illusion show that he made for Omni Expo! What most people probably don’t know is that he does magic related things and it was an amazing show that he put together for Omni and how he made the tricks. Heck, the final trick, he had the serial number on Gondras’ dollar bill in the end! Holy crap! Two thumbs up if you’re into magic shows. It was my first one live as a blind person since Gondras wanted to see how Josh would make his show seen by a blind person since on Pen & Teller’s Fool Us show one of the magicians did a card trick made for a blind participant in mind. I did participate somewhat in the final trick where he tried asking me to come up but he had me stay in the audience. Don’t want to fall off another stage which…in case anyone is asking…my panel…no one came again! I am not sure if it is my time slot selection since the cosplay contest was going on and hoped to get some remains of Josh’s crowd from his creative panel. Empty and again Gondras had to play the crowd which I do have video from. Not sure if I should bring another panel or not, who knows what will happen next year.

Rating: ::hears alarms:: SUPER CONVENTION ACCOMPLISHED! What does that mean? It means this convention had a major accomplishment since things have gone through the roof! This year’s Omni has been a major inspirational convention because of how we can tackle obstacles and put ourselves out there. Ever since Omni first found this blog all thanks to a small typo, I wouldn’t be still doing press for them to this day and is keeping me hopeful for my future doing press. Not only that, also my dreams to become an Assistive Tech Specialist since I was told to stick with writing except I use tech in order to write and without that tech I wouldn’t be writing this review and Nerdy Shique Universe wouldn’t exist! All I have to say is that all thanks to meeting Sawa, Derek Steven Prince, even getting to be up there with Bruce helping him with re-creating that penguin, it has inspired me to go further. What really makes me go further was that staff member, Roy, who came to talk to me before the Crystal Carnivale ever started and telling me that they have appreciated what not only me but what Gondras and Nerdy Shirts had done over the years. Yes, I went to year one alone and came back with two other members and looking at what we’ve done is a major accomplishment and that really warmed my heart. ::sees kitty minions with tissue boxes:: Thanks! ::takes one:: So in the end, I hung up my Omni Expo badge as a symbol of how much we’ve done in the past and even this year. Thank you Omni Expo for bringing us for press every year and showing that you guys may be small as heck but you still bring people to your convention even if it’s before springtime and had to switch with MegaCon. You guys are still a favorite and keep on going!

Needs for Improvement: Even though this year was really good but I do have two things to improve on…

Improving Volunteers With Escorts: As in, letting them know that even if they don’t have formal wear but let their escorts into the Crystal Carnivale when it comes to being disabled. Staff did apologize to me in person which was the best thing ever and I did write to Omni that there should be something in place to help any disabled, especially blind, attendees when it comes to getting around and even having their escorts with them in a special way. For instance, when I was in the costume contest last year as Link, I had Gondras escort me to where I need to be and they let him help and even handled Ageslash in making it wave. Anyways, that should be a permanent thing for certain events whether it’s being a contestant or going into the formal even if the escort is not dressed for the occasion.
Signings Should Be In A Small Room: What I mean by this is that the lines for the guests were taking up foot traffic in the Vendor’s Room which there were the area for shopping and it was hard to see who was in line for the guests and who was going to a vendor. I think the Florida Mall Hotel can move the walls so it would be a nice section to block off between the vendor halls and have people either peek in to see if a guest is around or see about the schedule on an easel to say, “Hey! This person is going to be back at this time!” Would ease the foot traffic a little or expand the width of the vendor’s area to make it more expanded for signings. I missed it where in the Double Tree near Universal there was a big area for the guests to sign things and that was out of the way of people walking, it was the same way back at the Rosen Center in 2015 and even year one where there was one huge area towards the back of the vendor area for guests so it would be easier to walk around. So yeah, there should be a bigger area for guests and/or make a room separate for them so foot traffic won’t be so obstructed. Always next year folks!

Guest Suggestions: Since I haven’t put this in here, now starting to with new reviews, I think conventions should be suggested some people and take them on a bit more. Here are my suggestions for 2019!

Melissa Fon: Since we have three Digimon guest, why not get someone from one of the most iconic of the seasons and darkest of them all, Melissa Fon who played Rika. She also was the voice of Edward in Cowboy Bebop!
Steve Blum: He was at Holiday Matsuri and would be fun for him to return for another Orlando convention!
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn: Can’t have Steve without Mary since they have worked with each other in the past!
Neil Kaplan: He has not been back to Orlando has he? He plays Halsemon and Hawkmon in Digimon Season 2 and any Voltron: Legendary Defender fans, he is Zarcon for that season!
Team FourStar: It’s been four years since they’ve been back and it would be fun to bring the main three, Lenimpataur, Takata, and KaiserNekko to bring on the fun. Especially with Final Fantasy VII Mission Abridged being such a hit. Try having your fiancé quote Vincent Valentine from this!
Louis Lovehog also known as Linkara: Since MythiCon had ended in 2014, I think we’re missing Atop the Fourth Wall Live and it would be fun to see him do another comic here in the Sunshine State!

Well, that is it for this review! Don’t worry everyone, we do have videos coming up from this year’s event! From my panel to our interview with Mr. Prince, we have a lot! Not only that, I did say we are trying to arrange a Skype interview with Sawa in the near future due to her packed schedule and hoping we can get it up before whatever convention we go to next. Knowing that our time differences well probably be worked around since she is in Japan and we’re in the U. S. would be nice to visit Japan, wouldn’t it? Hey, we have to work with what we got and I did re-install Skype since we have our first interview in the works to make up for not being able to interview anyone during Holiday Matsuri last year. You will see! So, in the meantime, make sure you follow us on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique for all the latest updates for our posts here on Word Press and YouTube. In case if you want to suggest who we should start doing Skype interviews with, would like suggestions and see if we can reach out. We also would like authors too since we do have book reviews here! So, until next time! Catch you all on the universe side!

Convention Spotlight: Omni Expo 2018 in Orlando, FL

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Another year and another Convention Spotlight!

Convention: Omni Fandom Expo
Dates: March 9-11, 2018
Location: Florida Mall Resort & Convention Center, Orlando, FL

It’s the fifth year for Omni Expo and even a fifth year for us to cover the convention for press which we’re excited about! It will be at the Florida Mall Resort again. It seems like this convention was had a major success at this hotel and glad it did since it is easier to navigate and walk around in in my honest opinion. For anyone new…

Hotel: This hotel is attached to the Florida Mall which is a huge tourist trap for us here in Orlando. People from all over the world come to this mall and also stay at this hotel year round. For anyone who are veterans of this mall, they have changed up some of the layout and moved some of the shops. Trust me, it wasn’t easy finding the new location for Hot Topic last year when I picked up my new Rise Against shirt but you do have the food court for meal time, even discounts from what we’ve seen with some stores. I will link to the entire website this time because I figure it’s easier to take a look at everything that way.

In case you guys want to know what’s in the food court and some of the food kiosks, here are a few:

Joey Fatone’s Burgers and Hot Dogs
Five Guys Burgers & Fries
Subway
Chicken Now
Taco Bell
Auntie Ann’s

And so much more! There are places outside and even a plaza with a Publix next to the mall in case if you want something different. Make sure you hit Chick-Fil-A Friday and Saturday and if you head further west, you can hit International Drive for more places to eat.

Guests: Of course we can’t forget the guests coming and coming back!

Returning Guests:

Bruce Karr: Oh yes, No Ordinary Balloon Man is coming back for another year. He is well-known for his balloon creations. If you were at Omni last year, he made a Hercule Satan and of course you can request for him to make something for you.
Paul St. Peter: He is back everyone! The voice of Wyrmon, Stingmon, Kokomon, and Xemnes is back for another year at Omni Expo. Hoping he does Pirate Curses again and check out his voice acting panels while you’re at it!
Mesumi Sempai: She’s back for another year and if she does her Lolita panel, I suggest going to it if you’re wondering how to dress in the popular Japanese style. She has really good info.

New Guests:

Sawa: New guest to arrive and from Japan! Sawa is making their first appearance and you may have heard their music in the game The World Ends with You!
Derek Steven Prince: The Digimon Emperor has arrived for this year’s Omni and can’t wait to meet him and get my copy of Digimon Season 2 signed by him!
Josh Seth: He’s returning to Orlando for another convention! We’ve interviewed him at Holiday Matsuri and hoping to do it again and without interruptions. Anyways, you may know him as the voice as Tai from Digimon and Tetsuo from the forever famed movie Akira and one voice from one anime called pilot Candidate as the voice of Zero!

You can see other guests on the Guests tab on the Omni Expo page!

Panels & Events: I did mention above that we’re hoping to see Paul’s Pirate Curses panel which is a lot of fun especially when people yell things at each other and of course get to learn more about pirates outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He should teach a pirate class at UCF. Just saying; Some other events, which one I am excited about is the Crystal Carnivale Ball and this year is going to be based on the Beacon Dance from RWBY and it’s $5 at the door. So grab your formal wear even formal versions of your cosplay and a mask if need be and join in on the fun! Another event that keeps popping up is the Dance, Death, Rumble! I guess it’s like Suicide Karaoke but with dancing. We may have to check this out. And of course the Café Au Lait Maid Café events taking place during the weekend. These events are what you would experience at a real life maid café in Japan. CanadaJin3 did do a video talking about these but she deleted everything but you can find other videos experiencing these things in case if you’re interested. I will update you guys on Twitter in case of panel info for me since I did put in a panel form with Nerdy Shirts’ idea. The Assistive Tech panel video is still up from last year if you haven’t seen it. If you want to check out more events, you can check out the link below!

Well, that’s it! Better follow us on Twitter because I will be updating with things as the convention gets closer with any interviews that will be taking place, any panel updates since I’m crossing my fingers, and much more! We’re hoping to take some pics this year since last year we didn’t do many and definitely apologize with that. And of course we have the business cards for the blog, my first book, and now my second book, Love Found in Cinders.

Omni Expo Official WebsiteWhat is next? The RWBY Volume 5 review since this newest season just ended recently and like with the first four there will be a review so stay tuned!

Bests & Worsts of 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Happy New Year all and it is time for the Bests & Worsts of 2017! Man, this was a fast year and man I have things to say in both the Bests and Worsts!

Disclaimer: This list is based on thoughts and opinions and observations of what took place this year! Please respect with what I thought and thank you!

Bests:

Interview: Chris Rager and Josh Martin from Omni Expo 2017! Man, this year was a lot of drama when it came to interviews but I feel like I had to mention one in this category and that is my interview with Chris Rager, who voiced Hercule Satan, and Josh Martin, who voice Magen Boo, from DBZ. This was the second duo interview we’ve ever done in the NSU past since we have done it with the Dino Thunder rangers at Omni 2016 and when I found out that Chris Rager and Josh Martin were going to be guests this past year I thought to ask Gondras to see about doing another duo interview since the last we have done was a success. It had fun doing this one actually because I got to have my talk show moment with these two and we did have the couch and I felt like Wendee Williams, the Talk cast, and so on interviewing these two. I would so do a talk show or join one since talk shows are my guilty pleasure during certain times in the year. I do call my interviews the Shique Hot Seat and will keep it calling that even with Omni next year! I also have to say where the staff placed us for interviews was also great since we do enjoy the privacy and not so much noise since we do have the Florida Mall areas underneath. If you haven’t seen the video, I would go into our archive or on our YouTube channel directly.

Email Interviews: Linda Ballantyne and Katie Griffin from Sailor Moon! As you know the problems with us and MegaCon interviews so I had to take it to Twitter to see if anyone wanted to do email interviews where I send the questions to a voice actor or actress and we get the answers and I was happy to do it with Katie Griffin, the original voice of Sailor Mars, and Linda Ballantyne, one of the original actresses of Sailor Moon. These two were major sweethearts and understanding with what happened since I felt upset about not having that one on one with them. One thing I do love about doing the Shique Hot Seat in person is more interpersonal and you get to actually see them in the camera and interact with me. I am so glad I did start doing videos but Mega said no so the next best thing and I did thank them in person and gave them lanyards I made themed of their Sailor Scouts. I even wore my Sailor Moon R broach. I did read the interviews and did enjoy their answers too, you will see what Christina V. said when I asked if she had met Katie since you have read Katie’s response about Christina. So stay tuned for that! I still thank Katie and Linda for doing that for me and I am very grateful for it.

Movies: I bet you are wondering why I put “movies?” Well…this year we only saw five movies that were really awesome and it is hard to pick out and I will say the reasons why I chose them and not in particular order either.

1. The Last Jedi: First is the new Star Wars flick to be released this year and we just saw it last week. I know normally we would catch it first day but Holiday Matsuri was on opening day. This movie was awesome and it does show how the torch gets passed onto the next person to be a Jedi. Yes, the story was clunky to some but how they told it was very well done and it flowed. I never thought playing around with telepathy like they did would take place in a film like they did. And we got to see the Yoda puppet return for this movie and I missed that about Episode 2 since they did him in C. G. I.! Thank you Disney for bringing the puppet back. Also, I have to give props to Little Kuriboh for this because he was the one who did the audio description! Nerdy Shirts did tell me about it and when I listened to it I did hear snippets of Yami and Kaiba a little bit in the description but they did pick the right person for this since he did get the dramatization right, heck I even went wide-eyed from the suspense during the description. Way to go man!
2. Thor: Ragnarok: Next is Thor: Ragnarok which I have to say was the strongest of the Thor flics in the Marvel universe. Dark World was funny but they cut down on Chris Eckleston’s character during this and the first one was fun but to me the third one was the best because you do have the call back to Dr. Strange and also bringing back the Hulk and following the apocalyptic myth in the Norse myths. I did love Cate Beckinsale as Hela, I know it is supposed to be Hel but this is Disney after all, but she did a very good job on this character after her character in the Underworld series. And the comedy flowed a lot better in this one than the other two because as you all know that comedy has to flow not be forced nor take over the action most of the time like the second one. I can’t wait what awaits Thor and Hulk in Infinity War with the other Avengers!
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2: I have so many words to say but this one did continue Guardians very well since we did get to see what happened to Quill’s mom in the first and then see what happened and who his dad was in the second one. This movie made me laugh the most and I thought I would go into tears from so much comedy even though the part that had me laughing the most was when Baby Groot brought a person’s toe to Rocket’s and Yandu’s cell. Sorry to say, with this one, I didn’t recognize most of the songs except for “Surrender” by Cheap Trick to be honest. Still, this was very entertaining and a great start for the summer movies! I can’t wait to see the Guardians’ role in Infinity War too next year since they are showing up.
4. Wonder Woman: Finally a movie that Warner Brothers did right! I am so glad Zack Sneider didn’t touch this one with his writing nor directing because with how they did this movie was perfect! Yeah, it is supposed to be in World War II but this did work out in the end. Too bad they didn’t continue this movie making in Justice League because I heard how the movie was not that great.
5. Spiderman Homecoming! And finally, Spidey’s back! We were happy that this film brought back the whimsy and comedy we loved about Spidey in the cartoons and a sweet relief that Marvel has him back and can do the proper films with him. Seeing the Vulture as the first villain made sense because with most of the villains besides Green Goblin and Doc Oc, we hardly see any origin stories for them either. We are hoping to see Scorpion step up in the next Spidey film since it seems that way with the last credit scene during the movie. So glad Spidey is back!
Best Stan Lee Cameo: Being With the Watchers in Guardians Volume 2! It was hard to choose which of the Stan Lee cameos were the best since the one in Thor and Guardians were equally good but I would lean towards him being in Guardians Volume 2 because it was a surprise one and that is him telling things with the Watchers. I couldn’t hear what was being said due to everyone around me plus Gondras laughing their butts off with Yandu and Rocket speeding by in the distance but it makes sense for Mr. Lee because he does go into tangents even for his age. If you see the videos from MegaCon with his panel, you would know!

Makeup Brand of the Year: Wet N Wild! Next is Makeup Brand of the Year and I give it to Wet N Wild because they blew other brands out of the water with their seasonal collections especially the Unicorn Glow and Midnight Mermaid Collections this past summer and fall! Sorry Makeup Revolution, Too Faced, Tarte, and everyone else who jumped in the unicorn and mermaid themes this year but Wet N Wild blew you guys out of the Last Unicorn’s Forest and Ariel’s home with their stuff! The Midnight Mermaid collection was a major success with how much of the bundle sold out and some of the items sold out on the WNW website and of course the Unicorn Glow selling out on Ulta’s website. Out of these two I do think the Unicorn Set happened to be my favorite overall because I got to play with more highlights and I did do a video series where I created looks of a Goth Unicorn, a Colorful Unicorn, and a Smoky Unicorn and had fun with all of them! I may have to come back to one of the highlights and glitter pigments when I do my Rarity eye look for Omni Expo.

Liquid Lipstick: Wet N Wild Liquid Lipsticks! Next is all about Liquid Lipsticks and I give it to Wet N Wild too because of how they came into 2017 with new products and that included a collection of liquid lipsticks! You weren’t expecting how well these will do, heck I had a hard time looking for Rebel Rose which is the pinky rose shade in the collection. They even did metallic colors for Midnight Mermaid with a coral, a burgundy, a blue, and a green to show their gothic side. I did hear they did do some for their Fantasy maker’s line for Halloween but couldn’t find anything but these lippies are amazing to have in your collection!
Runner Up: NYX Lip Lingerie! I have to give the Runner up slot to NYX for their Lip Lingerie line because of how comfortable these things are especially during a convention. They stay put and they even go on very evenly when you have a lip primer on. I do enjoy these and they are not as expensive since they are at a drugstore price.

Makeup Sets: Ulta! Next is Best Makeup Sets and I give it to Ulta! Ulta has improved their makeup game over time since their last sets I picked up a few years back. The sets I got were Love Makeup, Beauty Treasures, and Be Gorgeous and these three are amazing except for one part of the Love Makeup pallet where I feel like they should’ve changed the color selection before releasing because some of the shades are not as cohesive but at the same time you can get a look with most of them. The one I do love the most is Be Gorgeous since it has a variety of colors to play with and you can come up with a ton of looks and it did get me into color correcting after all. Way to go Ulta and keep up with the good work!

Best Actress: Gal DuGat! I know I should’ve mentioned this in the movies arena but this list is in no particular order and this year’s Best Actress goes to Gal DuGat who played the title character of Wonder Woman. I think Warner Brothers picked a very good actress to play Diana because of how strong she made her to be. I wished they made her better in Batman vs. Superman or not use her at all and just stick her with her own movie but the actress pick was pretty spot on.

Best Actor: Dave Bautista! It was hard to choose but I give it to Dave Bautista who plays Drax in the Guardians movies because with this character he played a very awesome and awkward badass! Plus, he has to go through hours of makeup in order to play this role! Still, I give it to him especially how awesome he did in Guardians 2!
Runner Up: Jeff Goldblum! My runner up slot goes to Jeff Goldblum because it was hard to say who gets this slot, him or Dave? Reason why Jeff is in this category because of his role in Thor Ragnarok and he did amazing for his part. I know everyone is hating that he didn’t get the blue makeup treatment like the actual character but he hit the personality and you did get to see him have a cameo dancing in the credits of Guardians 2!

T. V. Season: Doctor Who Season 10! Best season of a t. v. series for me goes to Doctor Who because this ended Capaldi’s run in the best way possible even with the Christmas Special! I am still wishing they continued the part of the season where he goes blind but there is always the new doctor to play around with for next season and the seasons after. I and Gondras did like how they called back to the First Doctor especially with the last arc with the Cyber Men and bringing a past version of the Master on top of it. I can’t wait to see what they do with Doctor 13!
Runner Up: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season 7! I bet you are wondering why? Well, this season did continue where it left off with the last one with Starlight Glimmer taking on the ideas of friendship all thanks to Twilight Sparkle and I was hoping they continue with her because knowing and my feeling is that she may be the next in line to have Aracorn powers like the princesses. Who knows if Season 8 may show that if it does happen. I did like and wasn’t expecting that they would talk about Star Swirled the Bearded and his companions who help form the first Elements of Harmony which I wish they talked about that more in all honesty because I felt that came out nowhere but it did show what had happened to him and his companions. Now hoping Season 8 would continue and I am thinking that the main six would take on teachings from the first Elements of Harmony for certain things like making AppleJack stronger or Rainbow Dash more faster or something. Who knows!

Fave Crowd Cosplay: My Link from Legend of Zelda but as Pokémon Ranger Link! Final category in Bests is my Crowd Fave Cosplay and that goes to my Link cosplay! This costume was two years in the making because I did start getting some of the things and needed to wait due to funds not being that high. I did finally finish getting the parts last year and getting the costume together in time for Omni Expo this year and man it was awesome especially with the Ageslash prop Gondras made! People were surprised by how well it looked in the Master Sword Coors and Zelda elements especially with my patches which shown the Tri-Force and the goggles too. Plus, I even worn elf ears for my first time since I never had and hadn’t used spirit gum in the longest time. Still, everyone who this cosplay loved it a lot!

Worsts:

Meh Movie: Power Rangers Re-boot! I know it is weird to see me mentioning this one but looking back at it but Power Rangers was an okay re-boot. Yes, they did have different people for Zordon and Alpha but I feel like I was missing the original Mighty Morphen even though it was cheesy 90’s t. v. but we grew up on that. Another thing is that Gondras pointed out is that the pink ranger’s costume had too much pink to it that it almost looked magenta and not pink. I guess they wanted to match the dark elements? Still, it was a meh movie.

Convention Press Experience: MegaCon Orlando 2017! I have to be honest that doing press for MegaCon was not as great as I thought. Yes, they had so many panels to cover but I am still wishing to do interviews with some of the actors. I am kicking myself for not saying that I was blind when we could only interview attendees, cosplayers, and comic book artists but it is due to being kicked out after the work of getting the passes in the first place and I felt that they didn’t also want to listen to it either nor give valid reasons even though the reason I got from Tampa’s Press Head was they only give interviews they felt deserved it. Okay, seriously? We have done this work for many years and interviewing someone as big as Stan Lee is someone’s dream, heck I wouldn’t mind to interview Danielle Panebaker when she was added after seeing her on Sky High and some other stuff on Disney. I know with cosplay, we did interview Riddle but.reason being is that I have to know their work in order to interview them and that is why it was easy for me to interview Riddle and if you want it to count, R. J. Heady since I did love the show Face Off. Also, with the huge crowd…it would be hard for me to ask attendees because there are times when people do get uncomfortable being asked things or give an answer that is not as great or just run off. And comic book guests…you know my situation! Sorry MegaCon, we won’t be coming back due to this experience and I feel like with all the work we have done, it feels like we can take our work to other places and new heights. I mean Omni and Holiday Matsuri still have us do work at their conventions.

Makeup Product: Anastasia Beverly Hills Sub Culture Pallet! I had to add this one on here because so many people were in an uproar with this one and that is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Sub Culture pallet! I have seen so many bad reviews on this pallet because of how much shadow it poops when you dip your brush in. Yeah, it not only becomes dusty with product but it poops it. I am glad I didn’t get on the Anastasia shadow or highlight kick because the…in my honesty…brand doesn’t interest me. I can get really good brow products from the drugstore, shadow pallets I love from other brands in drugstore and high end, especially Urban Decay and Makeup Revolution, and of course better highlight pallets like the Strobe of Genius pallet from NYX but Anastasia doesn’t strike up any interest in me getting anything. Maybe the Moon Child pallet but I found similar shades in Wet N Wild’s and Nyx’s highlight pallets already. So when I saw all the reviews on their Sub Culture pallet, I was surprised! Yeah, people say you can work with it but it is way too pigmented and with shadows like that it is hard to work with, I don’t see that much fall out like this one with my L’Oréal Infolluble Shadows. Not only that, the owners were telling people you aren’t using it right until they found out the reason why it was the way it was is due to how the machine pressed each shadow. Sorry to say but need to improve on that. I did hear the Prism pallet was better.

Okay, looks like that is it for this year’s list! 2018 is going to be big and hoping so because Omni Expo announced Josh Seth to be a guest this year and I am still waiting on the press application for it and hoping next year to have a new panel for it too. New posts to add to the Word Press side on top of that, especially the technology side! New costume to be designed, and hoping! Hoping! I finally get something started my access tech career goal because 2017 was a sit and waiting game for me and 2018 is where I need to spark something!

So, with that, have a safe and Happy New Year everyone and see you in 2018!

Conventions: Voice Actors Panel from Holiday Matsuri 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe and time to continue the Holiday Matsuri Coverage!

Saturday, Dec. 16: Voice Actor’s Panel:

So, another Saturday event which happens to be the Voice Actors Panel on that Saturday with Charlotte Chung, J. Michael Tatum, Brandon McInnis, and Fred Tatasciore. We covered this one as our press requirement which I wanted to do their Holiday Panel but it wasn’t on the schedule but it did take place but hey we at least got this one. I know this is so out of order but our Friday stuff is going to be on Google Drive so I can get it onto YouTube as soon as I can with the magic of my Galaxy Tablet! (Yes, trying to navigate that thing!)

Anyways, I did get to ask a question which happened to be the Fave Holiday Moment which I started adding to my interview questions for Holiday Matsuri but due to what took place this year with interviews I did ask some of the interview questions I had for people and ask them during panels. The stories the actors gave were pretty good, even Brandon gave a Fourth of July one which does count as a holiday and it was during the time he was in Japan. You will get to hear that. Gondras did help people with questions to ask while we were in line especially with our fave question, “What was the funniest moment in the booth?” This is the number one question that I always love to ask because I heard stories of funny moments in commentaries and that is how the question came to be and you will also hear those answers to that question and it was pretty funny with Fred. I have a feeling that is one answer he would give if we had that one on one.

Well, that is about it for this post! I hope you enjoy the videos with this panel and stay tuned for the rest! I am not sure if I should post the Idol Festival if that is one of the videos on our SD card because of the music being copyrighted and the footage was not as great.

What is next though? The Bests & Worsts of 2017 and man my fingers are going to hurt with this one with the amount of stuff to talk about! Stay tuned!

Conventions: Holiday Cosplay Runway Contest from Holiday Matsuri 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time to get back to the Holiday Matsuri 2017 coverage and starting with the Cosplay Runway Contest!

Saturday, December 16, 2017 Cosplay Runway!

This year we covered the Holiday Cosplay Runway Contest that is a big event for cosplayers. This is where people do holiday versions of their costumes to enter and well we did have some interesting entries and some entries that weren’t holiday even. Normally with non-holiday cosplays that is for the Cosplay Super Show on Sunday which we didn’t get to cover this year but if you guys want to see that for next year’s coverage then request!

One of the most interesting entries happened to be a group doing the Three Amigos and they sang “Feliz Navidad” by Jose Feliciano (Sorry if I misspelled that! My Spanish is very rusty!) And did fit since that gets played everywhere during the holidays. The good news is that Gondras did get a lot of photos of the entries and winners which I will announce down below since my camera on my phone caught them better this year. Thank you Apple!

Who won this year? Here the6y are:

Best Junior: Happily Ever Cosplay
Best Prop: Monster Hunter which all thanks to characters from this series having such huge weapons, they will always win Best Prop. (Need to see this series at some point!)
Most Festive: Krystal Andrews for the Christmas Miku
Best Creative: Jesse Golden for Gilgamesh from Final Fantasy which was awesome for having all the weapons!
Flashiest: Cosplay Unlimited who did Queen Beryl
Best Group: Love Bug (Which I must see since Christina plays a role in it!)
Most Detailed: Sakizo Cosplay
Judge’s Award: Peppermint Sombra from Over Watch!
Best in Show: Sierra as the Disney Story Reader who actually had light up pages when you open the book! (I bet that took a lot of work!)

There were other entries including the White Queen from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, an InuYasha which when the hosts said, “Sit boy!” They really sat! Yes, as in face down! The female host did have to get back at the guy and they did it together with the “Sit!” I hope the person was okay afterwards. Some of the non-holiday contestants was a Happy I believe and a Blake from RWBY. If I did Blake, I would probably do some holiday thing.

I hope you guys enjoy the pics since this year they turned out great and hoping next year we will change it up and bring you the Sunday contest! What is next in coverage? One of the voice actor events! Next will also be the Faves of November & December 2017!

Convention Impossible: Holiday Matsuri 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I am back and sorry for the wait because I was ill for the past couple of days. When I came home from Holiday Matsuri on Sunday I was fine and when Monday rolled around I got sick with an infection and was in the hospital. I took a few days off to get myself better even yesterday watching NetFlix. I am back and it is time for the Convention Impossible post. This year’s Matsuri was a very fast convention and man I have a huge list of Needs of Improvement and that even includes some points people have been talking about in the Facebook Group which I will touch upon here and from my own obeservations. Let’s get it on!

Disclaimer: This review is based on thoughts and opinions from the lead writer’s observations. Please respect her thoughts on this convention because everyone is entitled to their opinion as always. Thank you!

This year’s event was last weekend and man it was full of attendees in all shapes, ages, and sizes! Heck, even in all kinds of cosplay besides my Pokemon Ranger Link cosplay which people have commented on Ageslash in his Master Sword colors. We didn’t get many pics except for the Cosplay Runway which you will see later on in the posts when we get the pics off my phone since Gondras loves how fast the SE camera takes, now hoping the 8 camera does the same thing when I upgrade next fall.

Hotel: Like last year, it was at the World Center Marriot and still the same hotel and this year was a first which Gondras and I stayed with Nerdy Shirts and two of our other buddies and one of their buddies who was volunteering this year. Our room was in the North Tower overlooking a good portion of Disney Springs and you can see the balloon landing and the fireworks going off at Hollywood Studios which was amazing! Good thing was that we did have a mini fridge and good thing for my cream cheese and travel creamers since I need my coffee and did bring bagels this time around which everyone loved the Everything ones. Good to know for next time! We hardly went to the pantry, except I did get some soft serve ice cream which was really delicious, but we did have sandwiches all thanks to Gondras. Another good thing about the room was that not only we had lamps but we also had lamps with powerstrips which we can charge our multiple devices since you know being press does have its many perks of tech and I did have to recharge my Braille Sense U2 for an entire evening. Good thing on that because we live in the age of rechargeable devices including a PS4 which one of our buddies did bring. Yes, we did have WiFi but it was a sneaky thing where when booking it is included in the rate which that wasn’t mentioned but at least that will be fixed if we do decide to stay there for 2018’s convention if they are there again which I have a feeling they will be with how much it has grown. I do have an Need for Improvement which deals with the room arrangements for people to be placed so that will be towards the end!

Panels: Oh man! This year we had many events to cover since we did have the press pass. The ones we did cover were the panels with Christina V. and Nate Wants to Battle, the “It Gets Better” panel with J. Michael Tatum and Brandon McInnis, the Cosplay Runway Contest again this year since we did enjoy it last year but our pics turned out blurry due to how fast the contestants went on and off stage, the Idol Festival since the Press Crew asked for people to cover that, and the Voice Actors Panel Saturday. Reason for so many events well the two voice actors panels is that we didn’t get to interview anyone which was a sad thing for us but at least we did make it up for panels even with J. Michael Tatum’s stuff since he was one of the people we wanted to have an interview with. I also wanted to interview Christina since I did get to interview Katie Griffin through email and because of getting to talk to the original Sailor Mars, why not the new? I did ask my question during her panel with Nate from my list of questions which I had on me just in case something happened and we can interview and you will see her response in that video.

With the Idol Fest, it was a new thing we have not seen before since this year was the first time for Holiday Matsuri to do the event. For those of you who don’t know what is an Idol Fest, I took a bit of a lookie look and I found something that gets held in Tokyo, Japan every year and has started back in 2010. It is basically a concert where female solo idol artists or idol groups perform in front of people and if you guys know Vokyloid then you may know that is basically what it is. With the performances here, we have the groups lip syncing to the music and play instruments and play the roles as the idols. One of them was even a dancer idol which made it even more interesting. We did get video but there were people in the way of the camera and well…don’t want to be claimed for the performance. All in all it was a pretty good event. I have a feeling it will return next year.

We did go to one 18+ panel this year and it was Mr. Tatum’s Saturday one and can’t really say what happened but if you guys have him as a guest at your local convention and OF AGE then go! Also, if you’re bringing grandma, this is something she may enjoy or not. (I am not kidding someone did bring their grandma!) And also, you may die laughing which Gondras did say I had done a higher pitched “Nyu” than I usually do during this panel. Again, go to it if he is a guest and doing it too. But the other voice actors events I can talk about were the ones on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, first the Saturday one had Charlotte Chung, Fred Tatasciore, J., and Brandon while Sunday felt like it rotated Charlotte and had Nate and Christina in that one. During Saturday’s, I was able to ask my “Favorite Holiday Memory” question because you are at Holiday Matsuri and actors do have stories to tell especially J. this year and they are very entertaining by the way! While Sunday, Gondras did ask one question about roles that they wished they have gotten but Brandon did re-phrase it and that made it better in a way.

When Gondras originally asked the question which was “Were there any roles they wanted but didn’t get it?” Christina and J. did answer the question Christina did run into that situation while J. says when he doesn’t get it that he lets it go and not let it bother him. Then Brandon chimes in to change it to “What were roles you wished for?” Which was a better question to ask since it was easier for everyone to answer. Thank you Brandon, this one will bein our interviews for now on, especially starting next year when we sign up again for Omni Expo! First Brandon said he would like to be a witch in Into the Woods, J. said he wants something like that too but doing a female voice himself that would be a good challenge for him especially if they made Orlando by. Virginia Wolfe into an anime so he could do both parts of him in male and in female. Nate would do manly men in their early years. Fred would like to go for the Joker and Christina said she would wish she had Stitch or Crush but if she had it in the 90’s, read either Jasmine or Ariel. I could go on with panels but to me the main and special events were the most entertaining since we didn’t go to many fan panels, we did try going to the Kingdom Hearts 15th Anniversary one on Saturday but that didn’t go as well since they were just doing a video type of presentation. I know video is nice but panels can’t just be all video. Plus, we didn’t know what panels were going on in the fan area since the app that was used this year called Cosmunnity was not working right for some reason and there were not many printed schedules. I will touch on that later.

Guests: Even though we didn’t get to interview anyone this year we did get to mostly talk to J. and Brandon at their tables during their weekend. Gondras had to do his Jelly Baby bit since he was the Doctor during the weekend and I did have a few myself since he fed me a few. Lol He did help a girl in the line for the Saturday Voice Actors panel who was going through some nerves and gave her a few to calm them down which he did good on that. I know that feeling when meeting a guest you REALLY wanted to meet and you have a lot of nerves underneath. I do become a little shy around them I admit…but I do go with the flow since they are like us. What was awesome though was having a bit of a tech talk with Brandon McInnis since he noticed my Braille Sense U2 and he gave me a post idea for the Access Tech category on here since it is my handy dandy press device for notetaking and editing now for writing too.

Dealer Room: This year’s Dealer Room felt like it grew a bit bigger this year with more vendors and we saw a lot more people in it this time as in attendees. The layout did change a bit with some artist people more in the front and a few a little spread out. I did get a few things this year and that included a new messenger bag of Roy Mustang from FullMetal Alchemist which I was meaning to get one of Ouran High School Host Club but when I tried looking for the person who had the bag they weren’t there anymore. Apparently, this year there were a few booths that were selling bootlegged stuff and they were kicking anyone who was selling it out and I think the Ouran bag seller might have been one of them. I did get a new pair of cat ears and tail from the fave cat ear seller I always love to buy from. She had a new set of ears and a tail in a new pattern of fur she picked up and called it Latte. It was sooo soft and yes I bought the ears and tail set since I have not gotten a chance to get a tail from her. I did have to buy a tail from someone else to go with the blue ears she made me in the past that I did meet at AFO since I hadn’t found her since 2014ish? I was glad to find her again and I still have her contact. And yes, I ran into my buddy who sold the Japanese Snacks which he was down a few tables from another guy doing the same thing and almost got chocolate mint flavored ramune but it was a bit pricey. This year was a change for my Snacks Buddy since he did mystery bags and I got one for a nice change and I haven’t gotten anything out of it yet due to being ill recently. Not only that, he did get the fave mint Kit Kats but I have been a bit chocolate out due to getting leftover bags of Halloween Mars and Hershey’s mixes even though I have been doing it moderately in consumption. Gondras did get a bag and he did eat some of them that night with me. Another item was something I never thought I would find at a con but on Hot Topic and that is a Pikachu wallet. It is in a clasp format and I do love the clutch like wallets like my Luna and Artemis one from my birthday this year and this one has Pikachu’s face on the front and lightning patterns on the back. I guess I did a pretty good haul this year despite how massive last year’s was due to having a work experience but next year will be better. Gondras did get his copy of Tales of Xillia 2 signed by Mr. Tatum and yeah it did cost a little but it was worth the wait for the entire weekend.

Rating: CONVENTION COMPLETE! I know this seems to be more of an Accomplished but I feel like it is a Complete. This convention went by fast for the three of us and we did get to enjoy the room for two days. I do find it very convenient that we had the room at the World Center and get to the events a lot faster than driving from one part of Orlando to the Disney area. Now onto the last part…

Needs for Improvement: Oh man! There was one HUGE feedback post after this con and I do have my own needs to suggest….

1. For Hotel: World Center if you are reading this why put everyone in the North and West towers of the hotel when the event was ccloser to the East and South towers? Before the convention, the hotel was reserved almost to full capacity and well most of the reservations were kept in North and West which we have to walk a good distance to get to the southern part of the main floor. Not only that, the first day of the convention, we had to park in the southern parking garage and you can imagine how far the boys had to walk to get all of our stuff. I was waiting for the camera to charge before the J. and Brandon panel. Plus, during the night, the North and West parking lots were full due to how many people were staying and we had to park on a side street which is pretty dangerous and wishing that the parking was better and even people talked about that on the group and yes, they are listening well the convention is and they said that the hotel will do better next year. I am hoping and with the amount of attendees staying at the hotel all four towers should have equal access to have reserved rooms. As in if both South and East get filled up then use the North and West towers not the other way around because it does save on time, yeah it would be a long walk to the pantry and restaurants but they are pretty much in the middle of the atrium connecting to the North and West towers, the lobby, and the pool area. (Man, I should be working for the Marriot, lol)
2. Having Volunteers Guide Blind People: Oh man, another thing I wished that was there was not only more volunteers on the floor which they should have been all over and that are ones that can help the blind. Maybe I should suggest to the admins about this and that is able to help any blind attendee that may be going to convention because reading a map is not always accessible. Trust me, I was lost getting to Main Events on Saturday. As the only blind press person, it is not easy walking sometimes if you don’t know where to go and I did have a hard time asking people since they point. I can’t see pointed fingers so I finally asked if anyone will help guiding me and someone did. Glad that helped but would be nice to have volunteers to give that sighted guide too which I remembered year one of Omni Expo where I had a volunteer do that for me and a lot of cons should have that too. There are times when people do have disabilities including wheelchair alongside other things whether it being hearing impaired or sight impaired, having that volunteer to be the sighted guide or being there to help push a wheelchair can kind of help. I should write to Holiday Matsuri to have volunteers to be sight guides once I finish and post this.
3. Guest Relations: I know I mentioned this in reviews on this con in the past but they are back again and it deals with interviews. Last year, I was told to contact the Guest Relations ahead of time even though we got the interviews last year. This year, I just did that and was told to send the interview questions and I did and this was months before the convention and then didn’t get any contact as the week led up to the event and got the response “Sorry! Slots are full!” This did upset me and yes I understood that there was no guarantee of getting one but when the event came, I was not the only one who went through the same thing. A guy I met at the Cosplay Runway had the same thing happen to him when he had known two of the guests and they wouldn’t let them do an interviews he wanted either. I am not sure who got the interviews but Gondras wondered if it was favorites or something because we have done interviews in the past at Holiday Matsuri and I have met some of the press teams and they are like us. But when I mentioned to Mr. Tatum about what had happened and he explained that it was due to their schedules being full. I am now wondering by “Slots are full” are they talking about their event schedules as in doing the panels, events, saying “Hello” to the V. I. P. pass holders, etc.? Or did they get interviews so that is why they are “full?” I am kind of confused on that especially now that the event has passed. I did see open opportunities at the signing area, even though the dealer room is loud like crazy, where interviews can be done with them. I am not sure what is going on with how it is treated. I am hoping next year this gets fixed because I felt like we went through the same thing like with Mega but at least we weren’t pushed to other people that I can’t see their work.
4. Cosmunity App: This one was the biggest of them all with complaints and thank goodness I heard it all over even in our hotel room with the complaints. The Cosmunity App is pretty much like Event Bright where you look at the convention schedule that way and pick where you want to go and apparently that is how you get the map for the entire floor. Apparently, people had major problems with this app! Not only you had a lot of attendees trying to access the Hotel WiFi but also getting onto the app at the same time causing it to go either slow or crashing it and that does happen with apps. Even when Gondras plays Brave Exvius there were times when it does crash due to some bugs. I am glad I am hearing about this since I didn’t have the app nor know that Holiday Matsuri was doing this and with the amount of attendees at this event, especially when you have J. Micahel Tatum at this thing, you draw a huge crowd and technology can’t keep up with that connection demand. Even Brandon McInnis, who works on software himself, was surprised knowing about the app from us. The HM staff did say they are working with the developers of the app to make it better for next year. Another part since this app was bad…
5. Having Printed Schedules and Books Again: Even though there was a con guide this year but there were some print outs according to some people that didn’t have the full schedule. If you don’t have an app that works, having a print out does help and I was glad for press that the Press Staff did give us the panel schedule for the ones that can be covered and a nice tip for anyone who does look at the schedule beforehand since they do post it on the convention website is to use either Google Sheets if you have an Android device or Numbers if you have an Apple Device. With these apps, you can create the schedule by putting in the panels or events you want to go to and what days they are on, what panel you are hosting, even what day and time you’re checking into your room and place what day and time you check out. I used Google Sheets and memorized the events pretty easily but if you need to check the schedule you made, you just take out your phone or tablet and access Sheets or Numbers since they can run offline and check that way. Also, make sure your device is fully charged and if you can’t see then make sure the voiceover is also on. Lol Still, having those print outs can also help in case if the location of the event or time gets changed which you can compare with what you typed out.
6. Panel Form: Yes, I have to mention this as my last point because I feel like it is a huge thing to mention and that is the panel form is not as accessible as it was back in 2013; I did bring Blind Experience back then and the form was very accessible with JAWS on my PC and had no problem submitting it but this year since I want to bring Nerdy Shirts’ idea to life I had a hard time filling out the form. Now to see through my blind eyes and that is I had a hard time navigating through the edit fields, when I tab around it goes to the very bottom, I had to use my arrow keys to navigate and some of the areas weren’t even read out by JAWS and then when I clicked “Submit,” I thought it did until a month before the convention where it was not in. I even tried redoing my password and well the panel staff took a bit to get back to me and the newer passwords they gave me didn’t work. I did let it go but I did need to mention the Accessible Problems. I don’t have problems with the Press Form for the past three years already and it does work like a charm and even getting our Press Passes through the Event Bright app was even more accessible but the Panel Form was not and this should be fixed for next year. I am not sure if the staff were expecting someone to fill out the form with Zoom Text but with JAWS it is not working someone should make something to help work with JAWS or Narrator since all Windows PCs come with that.
Well, that is it for this review. I know the Needs for Improvement were a bit harsh but I did say this was based on my observation of the con and I did take some notes to heart and mind because not all conventions are perfect. I am hoping some of these issues do get fixed and knowing with the huge feedback post on the group did catch the staff’s attention. Next will be my event posts with videos and pics we do have for and can show them to you guys! I will updating on the Twitter account as usual so you guys would be in the know. Oh right…Gondras is also ill so hoping we can get some of the other videos up in time for 2018. Apparently, there has been a bug going around and hoping you guys don’t get it and if you did, get better soon because it is not fun having it since I have gone through it in the past. So, until next time catch you on the universe side!

Conventions: Last Minute Holiday Matsuri 2017 Info!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Today is the last minute Holiday Matsuri information! I can’t believe it is two weeks til Holiday Matsuri and here are some updates for you guys!

And also three day passes are now at the door prices and they are $$60. For single day passes: Friday is $35, Saturday is $45, and Sunday is 35! Actually those sale prices are until the day of the con by the looks of it. So, if you want to go for a day then buy it. If you guys want to go as a group that ends on the 12th and that is $57. A head’s up, you will pay a fee so head to this page:

http://holidaymatsuri.com/2017registration/

For all the info!

Hotel: If you want a room, I would say book it now because last time the capacity of reservations being full was at 50% and we here at Nerdy Shique Universe are some of that percentage because we will be staying there ourselves. You can get the booking info here:

http://holidaymatsuri.com/2017hotel/

If you can’t get a room, there are other hotels in the area and one of them is the old convention location from 2015 down the road, the Caribe Royale which is also a nice place too. In case of any other disabled attendees that might stay at the Caribe and using paratransit, they do get the World Center and Caribe mixed up as a bit of a warning. Letting you know!

Panels: I tried signing up for a panel but the form was not accessible so I may have to wait until next year which now I have my first Need of Improvement at the moment. You can check the panel schedule though for panels you may want to attend on Event Bright! I would suggest the app which is pretty accessible on both Android and IOS!

Cosplays: There will be a lot this year since I have seen people posting their line ups on the Facebook Group, we will be taking pics for our Cosplay Gallery so I am making sure Gondras will be camera armed since there are times he does forget. Yes, I will make sure with more pics!

Well, that is all I can think of! I am planning on doing a video of making my Trail Mix for this year’s event because I did get a stink eye towards what I always carry…which I don’t know why…okay my future in law is weird! Anyways, until next time, I will be doing a new category on here and that deals with Access Tech which I am either doing a review first on an app or my take on gaming and accessibility before the con. I would say stay tuned here and on Twitter @ Nerdy Shique!

Shopping: Holiday Gift Guide 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is November and we are getting closer to Christmas and you know what that means! It is time for a gift guide here. I have done gift giving advice here and back on Myspace when it was a thing and now it is time for a gift guide in case if you need some ideas!

MakeUp Sets: First is makeup sets! We all know the beauty lovers in our lives and getting that perfect makeup gift would help. We do have the beginners and experts that we know when it comes to makeup and Holiday time is when the brands come out with their own makeup set. I have gotten some in the past and even purchased a few for myself this year and they are worth it. Some of the makeup sets that are big this year include Tarte’s Holiday sets which you can find at Ulta and Sephora depending on who has what, Kat Von D’s Saint & Sinner pallet which would be a big one to ask on any list, but if you want to go for drugstore E. L. F. has released a lot of sets from brushes to highlighters and even stocking stuffer gifts. If you want a better list of sets, I would suggest watching Kat and Hayleigh (sorry if I butchered the spelling) on Beauty News since they talk a lot about new releases even for holiday and Jen Luv’s Reviews for new holiday releases every week on What’s Up In MakeUp and I suggest joining the Facebook group since everyone helps in suggesting products so asking for what gift to ask for or get for someone special they are willing to help. Heck, they helped me with selfie advice.

When it comes to some sets I would suggest, I would suggest the Ulta sets in Be Gorgeous, Beauty Treasures, and Love MakeUp because not only you get a lot of makeup but it does come in nice cases that you can keep. If you have someone that loves jewelry boxes, I would suggest the Beauty Treasures because you can remove the face and eye pallets for convenience since they are not in the signature plastic casing like the Be Gorgeous one. Plus you can go through the drawers very easily for what you need for instance, one drawer is for the concealers and eye primers, another one is for the brow powders, gel liners, cream shadows, and eye topcoats, and the last drawer has the lip items, the brow mascara, and a blush brush and dual ended eye brush. You would pay a bit more for this and good thing is the eye pallet has a lot of warm and cool shades to play with. If you have someone that loves train cases more for convention travel or vacations, then the Be Gorgeous and Love MakeUp sets are for them. I just got the Love MakeUp on sale and these two sets do have your usual eye shadow pallet which the Be Gorgeous comes with 42 shades while Love Makeup comes with 36 and you can create a lot of looks with these and you do have your essentials like your bronzers, gel liners, brow powders, but interesting thing is that the Love MakeUp does not come with the primers. I would suggest using your usual eye primers with the Be Gorgeous and Beauty Treasures sets because I find the Ulta primers in these sets too drying. Also, with Love MakeUp you do get lip liners. I would say for either of these sets to see which one would be worth more to give and again to see if the person loves train cases or jewelry boxes. These sets do retail for $29 which is Beauty Treasures and $24 for the other two but they do have specials on the train case sets.

Nerd Memorabilia: Here at Nerdy Shique Universe, we do include nerds when it comes to giving gifts and many stores do carry a lot of merch based on Doctor Who, Harry Potter, even Dungeons & Dragons. Your best places to find these things are Barnes & Noble, especially the ones with music and movies being sold, Best Buy where they sell Marvel themed thumb drives and other pop culture related things mixed with tech, F. Y. E. for a lot of your merch and tees, Hot Topic being the biggest, and two more stores to mention that we do have here in Orlando and they are Pop Cult where there are way more pop culture items like Hello Kitty, Pokemon, and more, and Box Lunch which has more of the classic pop culture stuff like Miyazaki films and 90’s themed stuff. Gondras did get me a Gigi from Kiki’s Delivery Service as a coin bank last year for Christmas from Box Lunch by the way. Nice thing about that place, they do put your purchases in a lunchbox like carton since it does match the name. I know I will be hitting the Hot Topic website for Gondras this year! Lol

Bath & Body Sets: I know a lot of us love to pamper ourselves after a stressful week at work, heck even a stressful weekend at a convention, so having a a set of bath or skin care or body products to help soothe that aching foot or to calm the skin from stress is a way to go. Many brands have been coming out with sheet masks to help with the skin, even on a plane which I hear people use sheet masks to help with the dry air on a plane, and you know the holidays are HUGE for travel! You can get some of these sets from Sephora where they have skin care sets from Glam Glow, Tachia, Boshia, and much more. Emily Noelle even talked about some masks she got with holiday scents recently like pumpkin spice and sugar cookie and I think those are Ulta and you do have other brands at Ulta like Tony Moley, their in house brand of bath sets that you can get Buy One Get One 50% Off at the moment. I do hear the scents from Ulta do smell good. And of course, Bath & Body Works, my kryptonite with their Christmas scents! And of course, can’t forget Lush because they do have awesome gift sets with bath bombs, bubble bars, and they do come with mini shower gels in there too and good thing about getting these sets from Ulta, or Bath & Body Works, and Lush is that if the person never tried them before this is how you can try them. That is how I got into Lush by the way, Mommy Gondras did work for them seasonally back in 2007 and I got a gift box from their Christmas line and I was addicted, even to Snow Fairy. So, every year is Snow Fairy right after Christmas! So yes, sets are a good way to go!

Luxury Brand Sets: I can’t forget about this because there are times where we know someone that loves that luxury skin care brand or makeup brand and there are times where the singles are a bit pricey. A lot of the luxury brands do come out with their own holiday sets and if you have saved up a lot over time then getting a set like this would give the luxury lover a ton to try. One good set definitely to recommend are the mud mask sets from Glam Glow because you get to sample some of their more popular masks in one single set rather than trying to buy it for $50 (just guessing) and around this time there is the Sephora sale depending on your membership level you get 15% as a Bauty Insider and 20% for VIB and VIB Rouge which does help even when it comes to early gift shopping.

Train Cases: I feel like bringing these up as a possible gift item especially when I mentioned the Ulta sets before and that is train cases. If you don’t want to get the Ulta sets, there are the usual train cases that we love to travel with, heck I am going to be using my pink caboodle for Holiday Matsuri since that is what I use for my convention makeup stuff. These last you for a long time and they do come in many sizes and price ranges. I have a six tray one and it was $24 if I remembered and I got it from WalMart two years ago. Trust me, I have a lot of stuff to put in, lol! Anyways, besides WalMart selling these, you can find at Target, Ulta, and I believe Sephora too and of course Amazon and EBay does carry some of the older ones you may not be able to find in store anymore.

MakeUp Bags: Besides train cases, you can also get a loved one a makeup bag because a lot of us do travel and having that makeup bag is very handy! They come in all shapes and sizes and even in nerd memorabilia, heck I have a Pikachu and an Artemis one from Hot Topic since you know me, plus they do come as sets depending on the brand. For instance, Too Faced has a set where you get three mini shadow pallets, their Better Than Sex Mascara, and other items in a makeup bag. Even MAC has some such as their mini lip glass trio, which you can use the little makeup bag afterwards for lip stuff, bobby pins, and other things when you are on the go. Also, Sephora has really big ones every holiday and they come oujt with new designs for every holiday so you can get what you like. And in case if you are at a department store browsing makeup counters, some of the brands do include makeup bags as gifts with purchase, I do admit I take my mom’s Lancome ones due to how spatious they are. Lol! Speaking of gift sets…

Perfume and Cologne Sets: Besides beauty and clothing, there are the loved ones that love to smell good! I usually ask for perfume but due to how many bottles I have I have slowed down incredibly! Anyways, sets are a good thing to go with because there are times when a brand wants to treat the customer or their loved ones by selling the set together and they do come with pretty sweet stuff like a shower gel and lotion and sometimes even a bag to go with. For instance, my Nicole Richey perfume set came with a carrying bag. A good set that people suggest is the one from Sephora because they include a coupon to get the full-size perfume or cologne that is included in the set of minis of your choice.

Gift Cards: If you have a hard time choosing what you want to get someone, gift cards are a way to go! In my gift advice, I say pay attention to where your loved ones shop or ask where they like to go. If you can’t get an answer, you can get them a Visa gift card so they can spend it anywhere. Another good idea is if the person loves to play games on their devices or game systems, you can get them either a Google Play card, an ITunes card, or even the systems’ cards to use in their stores such as the PSN card in case if they want to get a classic game or pay for their membership at the end of the month.

Food Sets: Finally, there are times when we want to give a person a little something extra especially in their stocking and that is either something sweet like candy or a box of cocoa packets. Heck, my mom gave me a can of blueberry tea bags one year as her stocking stuffer gift because I love blueberries especially as a tea. Not only that, if you have a party to go to or your friend loves savory foods, Hickory Farms always, always, ALWAYS have stands every year! If you have not tried Hickory Farms, I suggest trying their turkey summer sausage. Anyways, this place is a good idea for any party platter or as a gift even the day after Christmas has a good sale with them which is buy one get one 50% off and that includes their food sets that come with pretty good mustard spreads to tell you the truth.

Etsy: Finally! Finally! If Didn’t mention this earlier, Etsy is also a good place for gifts! This has a lot of craft items made by people, think of it a craft version of EBay. Not only that, this is where most of the people I meet at Artists Alley sell here as well such as Black Flame Creations, Aunt Matilda’s, and a bunch more. You can find a lot of great jewelry, some people even sell kitchen items, even candles if you can’t walk into a Yankee Candle. Plus, a lot of stuff is really well priced and they do ship as soon as possible even in time for holiday time! For instance, I got Vivi a wolf necklace for her since I was her Secret Santa last year and I did remember how she loved wolves and found it when looking for steam punk jewelry and it did arrive on time. So, I would say look around Etsy and also sign up for their newsletters because they will give you some items as ideas and some of the stuff does get discounted depending on the seller.

That is it for this post! Hoping you got some inspiration from this post! Christmas is my fave time of year not only just for gifts and sales but also Holiday Matsuri and the Doctor Who special that comes around every year. So, good luck on your gift hunt! What is next? A new cosmetic controversy that may want you to think carefully of swatching a tester on yourself! Until next time!

Updated: Best Convention Snacks!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I was going to do this as a video but due to how busy I have been, I decided to do it as a post instead on Word Press. What is it? It is my Convention Survival Snacks! I wanted to do it as a video before Omni when the convention just started for us here in Central Florida but you know my sad computer story and couldn’t do it. If you guys still want a video later, probably before any fall/winter conventions, I could do it but right now with MegaCon fastly upon us dfr Memoria Day Weekend in one week…yeah! What snacks do I suggest, keep reading!

1. Protein Bars: Starting my list is protein bars! Reason why is that these can be tasty but they do help with filling in your appetite as the day goes on. The ones I did carry during Omni were the Cliff bars in Chocolate Mint which is basically a protein bar version of a Thin Mint. Yes, they do have that weird taste but they can be very handy when surviving three or in Mega’s case four days of convention going, it is good to carry one just in case!
2. Granola bars: Since I mentioned protein bars, granola bars are another great thing to carry in your backpack or messenger bag like me! Also for any of your hotel roomies to carry too. These are not that expensive and they do provide energy and protein too alongside fiber in case if anyone needs it. The bars I recommend the best are Quaker bars if you are into chewy bars like I do and have a nice crunch along with it and of course I do love my chocolate chips, S’mores, and of course I used to get the Thin Mint ones last year but a Variety Pack can last you and any roomies that may want a bar or two. If you don’t want them to be a squishy mess, there is the Nature Valley classic bars which are very crunchy and solid and you get two per pack.
3. Cracker packs: I am mentioning these because I started carrying these with me last year as a nice added snack in case if I felt my stomach rumble a lot more and they are those little Thomas or Captain Wafer cracker packs. When I was little and was in the second grade, I had these with my lunch and for snacktime during the day and these were filling and still are. Great thing that these come in different flavors and variety packs if you want more than one flavor and be surprised by eating them. My fave is always the cream cheese and chives because it gives a nice herbal flavor with the wheat crackers. Also, the peanut butter ones with the honey cracker are also good too! You can get them for a good price at WalMart, Publix, Dollar Gneral, and one place here in my area known as Ollie’s.
4. PopTarts: I know they aren’t the healthiest thing on the planet but knowing as a college student and a convention goer and you know you are late, PopTarts are your best friend! You don’t have to toast them, they are already ready for you to eat. Plus, you already have the frosting on top on a lot of them which with Toaster Streudel you have to put it on. Plus, nice accessory for that school girl cosplay to run out of your hotel room with a PopTart in your mouth. (I know, nerd!)
5. Nuts: If you want to keep the healthy part going and need extra protein, nuts are usually your best friend unless you’re not allergic to them. I remembered always carrying cashews and almonds but it was hard for me to finish them off in the end but I did something pretty cool which I will mention next…
6. Brownie brittle: If anyone knows about this then it is handy, if not I will esplain for any new people to the concept. Brownie brittle is basically the thin, baked parts of a brownie, basically the almost burnt bits of the brownie but in cookie form. THey have many flavors and the cool thing I did is I crumbled it up and mixed it with whatever nuts I carried and make it as a mini trail mix. Plus, it is low calorie for bronie brittle!
7. Peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches: One of my all time fave things about being a nerd is peanut butter and jelly, especially in the same jar! If you guys remembered Goober Grape from the 1990s like me, then high five! Good thing is that you don’t harefrigerate peanut butter and jelly but you can do it with the sandwich itself after it’s made. I will be doing this since the pb does offer the protein and the j gives you the sweetness! Great for hotel snacking in between panels if you go back to your room and need a snack. Also, helps any of your roomies that may need it and it is also inexpensive when you gather your snacks for the con. I am doing this this time since during Omni until Sunday I didn’t eat breakfast which the good thing is that this is any time food too!
8. Chex Mix: Another thing I love to carry during conventions is basically snack mix especially the beloved Chex Mix! Great thing about these is that you can carry it in small snack bags or you can get a freezer bag like I do and carry ate entire bag in it and it pretty much keeps you eating all weekend. Great to share with others too who love this stuff! What I also like is that there are different flavors to choose from which I do love the Traditional and Turtle ones the most. I want to try Muddy Buddy but got Traditional this time around since the Target I went to didn’t have Muddy Buddy. Anyways, Hershey’s did make their own which I haven’t found in my area yet but may do someday since I love having snack mix and it does keep you snacking even during panels. Heck, I think I had a lot of mix during Ranger Stop with the Cheddar flavor.
9. Japanese snacks: For that Wheeaboo inside of us, there are times when we want something to snack other things and there are times when we find vendors selling Japanese snacks! I always love finding Mr. Japanese Snacks whenever I go to the conventions, especially with Omni and Holiday Matsuri, he tends to carry a lot of new items and the classics that I love and the ones I tend to pick up the most since they last a good while is Hi Chew! They are like Starburst but a lot chewier and they have more flavors like apple, strawberry, and I even found cherry flavored at an Asian market in town. Speaking of which, there are also looking around in Asian markets if you have the time to do so since getting snacks can be time consuiing while packing. Also, you can get a great box of pocky for Scott McNeill.
10. M&M’s: I know candy is not the greatest thing but if you are craving for it then by all means but M&M’s are the best thing to go since they are really good movie snacks and panel snacks. Plus, there are the usual chocolate lovers that tend to carry these and also the old prhrse, “Melt in your moth, not your hand!” Also, if you find the M&M’s World during Omni, then a good idea to get some or a tin!
11. Chips: Potato chips in any style, whether your standard Lay’s, Cape Cod’s, and so much more, can be that perfect snack if you’re craving for them! They can be an excellent snack to share with your roomies or to go into the snack bar at your hotel or into a WaWa need be. The best chip for a backpack would be Pringles since they come in a cardboard tube and they don’t cgetcrushed as easily and you do have the travel size versions which I used to have in my university days. Plus, they are pretty cheap to purchase when you only have a dollar on you.
12. Combos: My finally snack of this list is of course Combos! I know, in case if you haven’t heard, these were re-called a year ago due to finding peanut elements in them and now they have been showing up in stores again, well depending where you live. WalMart bring them back in town. Anyways, these are our fave snack during conventions because they are easy to carry in a freezer bag and we all enjoy them the same. As in me, Gondras, and Nerdy Shirts. They come in pizza flavor, heddar, nacho cheese, and you can choose between the basic cracker and the pretzel. I prefer the pretzel slightly more because I am a pretzel addict! Now youc an see why I ove Chex Mix! Anyways, this is one good snack to carry and you can eat it easily during panels or while sitting down for a break.
Update! Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I am adding a few updates to this post because I have something to announce at the end and I do have a few more snacks to add that I have forgotten!

Since you guys know that I have done my Convention Spotlight on Holiday Matsuri 2017 and this would be perfect to update this post since we are planning to have a room this year and after going through Irma, I did notice some foods would be great to take during convention and here we go!

Beef Jerky: I forgot to mention this food since Vivi did bring this up after having a huge bag from Sam’s Club during MetroCon 2014! As we all know that Beef jerky has been an important part of a lot of diets and heck it is a great food for a zombie apocalypse due to how it can switstand the environment but it does go old so better eat it as fresh as it is. Great thing is that it is tough and ready to eat and you can get a small bag for easy travel or a huge one for the entire weekend and friends at hotels. And the best flavor to me is teriyaki!
Trail Mix: Since I mentioned Chex Mix, I want to mention this snack and that is Trail Mix. This year for Holiday Matsuri I am planning to make my own but without the raisins. I hate raisins if anyone knows and loves me, no raisins anywhere! I admit I loved them as a kid but I did read that I can make my own Trail Mix even though there are different variations sold. So, why not make my own with stuff I love? It is an easy thing to make and all you need are nuts, seeds, dried fruit which there is a big list of and going to get one other dried fuit after my older brother leaving some dried mango and it is delicious! Plus, you can add other things like popcorn, pretzels, with mine I will be having brownie brittle which I used to do that with almonds and it will be fun. And you do have some seasonings with one recipe I did read. And you can put it in a jar or Ziploc bag and into a lunch box with said bag. If you don’t want to make your own, you can find the pre-made stuff in your local grocery store, heck Nature Valley makes their own Trail Mix bars so you can have for breakfast!
Bagels & Cream Cheese: I bet you are wondering, “Say what now!?” While I was without power during Irma, I had to eat a bagel without toasting it and with cream cheese which shows I can survive on that. If you have a fridge available or cooler, you can keep your cream cheese in there and have a bag of Thomas bagels which you can find at your local supermarket! If you have extra cash, there is always your local bagel shop or Panera, I would suggest Bagel King if you are in Casselberry since they have really good bagels but if you want to spend less, Thomas has good ones and they are not as strong as most places which you can use the sweeter cream cheeses on the blueberry and cinnamon flavored gbgels, heck I use the Philadelphia cumpkin Spice cream cheese on the Thomas Pumpkin Spice bagels and it feels like you are eating pumpkin cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory! If you want them toasted, there is something cool you can do according to Hack My Life and it deals with the coffee maker in your hotel room where you can switch it on and toast your bagel face down for a little bit. Not sure if it works but that would be interesting to do if you need to toast it unless you spring for a suite with a kitchen that has a toaster like the Extended Stay near the Convention Center in town.
Ritz Bits: I got this idea from Nerdy Shirts and not sure if I had mentioned it but these have existed since I was a kid and best to carry them.
Dried fruit: If you aren’t into trail Mixes, there is always carrying dried fruit if you want your daily fiber intake which is important. Plus, you can refrigerate it or not and eat it straight out of the bag and they don’t go as bad as regular fruit since that can go bad pretty easily depending on what you bring. Even banana and apple chips are very popular for people when it comes to anything fruity. Also, if you have a fridge/freezer in your room or staying at home if it is close to the convention site, which we knew people who did, there are the Dole Banana Dippers.
Flavored Bread: As in banana bread, blueberry bread, etc. Remembered when I mentioned Thomas? They do have good breads that you can eat cold or toasted if you have toast. I wonder if that coffee maker toaster hack will work with this? Anyways, also WalMart’s bakery section does make their own too from what I remembered.
Deli Meats And Cheeses: Since I mentioned peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, if you are allergic to PB, you can always have deli meats and cheeses for sandwiches too. Since some rooms do come with refrigerators, that can help them keep them cool…or….
Lunchables: How can we not forget these!? I remembered carrying one each day when I started going to MegaCon with Gondras back in 2007 and these were handy too! Just carry a huge lunchbox and have one in there and there you go!

Well, that is it for this post again with added snacks! As a convention goer, these do help with survival and help you keep going before your next meal, especially with dinner.

Okay guys, time for seriousness! I am keeping the Patreon link down below but I am letting you guys know that with Holiday Matsuri that me, Gondras, and Nerdy Shirts will be sharing a room with some friends so it will be easier to stay at the World Center rather than driving back and forth in Orlando and gives us a weekend away from home too. So, I need help with my part to pay for the room which I am going to leave the link to Go Fund Me since that is supposed to be for our travels and haven’t gotten any donations. I need about $69.30 to pay for my part and if you guys want to donate more you can in case of gas or something but that’s all I need on my end since I am not sure about my funds situation until December. So, to donate to our Go Fund Me, it is at this link:

https://www.gofundme.com/nerdy-shique-universe-travel

Like I said in the description for this thing, conventions have gotten more expensive during the four years that we have been doing press and this our third year at Holiday Matsuri and it is an awesome opportunity and we can’t get our footage, photos, and interviews out to the net without all you guys so please donate if you can! Also, check out our Patreon down below since it feels like YouTube doesn’t allow you to mention them much anymore so please donate and help us and spread the word!

By the way guys, we have a Patreon now! Since we don’t have any donations on Go Fund Me, which you should donate to that to so we can have our convention experiences in and out of town to bring you awesome content to our YouTube, so we also have Patreon to continue it! Here is our link to donate:
