Beauty: Ipsy October 2018

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling all over the universe! Welcome back to another post! Guess what I got in the mail?

Ipsy October 2018!

I finally got it in the mail! Originally my tracking said October 13th that it was supposed to get here and normally I get it on the estimated date of arrival but it came today. I think it’s not only due to Hurricane Michael but Orlando’s main USPS office is not open weekends. I was excited for this month because they changed up some items from my usual lot and it made it interesting.

The bag for this month fits very well for it being Halloween which is an embossed domino mask with flowers! I feel like it reminds me of Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon.

Beautiniq Beauty Blush Serum in Sun Rise: First is something interesting me never thought I would get or even try and that is a blush serum from Beautiniq Beauty. I think I remembered this brand showing up in a lot of people’s Glam Bags in the past and never got it. I was curious about them and glad to try them and this is something new to me. I never heard of a blush serum until now and apparently it’s a water based serum that can built up. It contains Vitamin E and Apricot Seed Oil. Perfect for my dry skin but I did see someone test theirs and it was a clown type blush according to her. I understand with cream blushes you have to be careful, even in stick form for instance, you can put a bit much. I have to try this out and see how it goes. I may have to put a little bit on my tea tray or a small dip bowl to try and apply it that way rather than squeeze too much on my hand. So glad they do help in telling the shade on the website because the tube doesn’t have it printed. If you didn’t get Sunrise which is a pink, like I did, you can get Sunset which is a coral shade.
Makeup Forever Ultra HD Liquid Foundation in Y225: Now, if I hadn’t put on makeup then I would’ve worn this or used it as something else. Plus, this is the item I was super excited about and that is the Makeup Forever Ultra HD Liquid Foundation and the shade I was sent was Y225. I never tried Makeup Forever and it’s great to get higher end brands you never tried before in a subscription like this, how else did I try Ofra and other brands? Anyways, people either got R230, which is Ivory, Y225, Marble, or Y335, Dark. I know some people on YouTube got this foundation and I have a feeling this shade is a medium shade even though I’m light to medium in the foundation spectrum. Trust me, it was hard finding a bottle of Buff Bisque this time from Wet N Wild. Let’s see the claims for anyone new to this brand like I am. This foundation is supposed to be natural and evens out the skin without being cakey or heavy. This is medium to full coverage and easy to build up and keep it light. It also supposed to be dewy too. Just swatched on my hand so I would test oxidation since most foundations because some do do that and it happened to me with L’Oréal.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream: Yay for more skin care and it’s from a brand I heard of but never tried! I’ve heard of First Aid Beauty in so many videos on YouTube and haven’t heard much of them again. Apparently, this is a brand meant for people with sensitive skin which I’m all aboard for. I’m glad to finally try this brand with their Ultra Repair Cream which is you can use this product from head to toe and it’s easy to absorb without that greasy feeling. You can use it both day and night which I would try tonight and before makeup. This moisturizer contains soothing ingredients like shea butter, licorice root, and white tea which are great for sensitive skin which caught my ear when I found out this is in my bag. This cream also can be used on kids since their skin can be sensitive and can also be used on exima proned skin. I will see how this goes because I love skin care meant for my skin type and ever since I got into it I have to be careful with most items with certain ingredients.
Sugar Cosmetics its Apout Time in Better Call Salmon: Yay! Another Sugar Cosmetics product and it’s a lipstick and it’s tiny! As you know, I did like the first thing I got from these guys which was the gel liner pencil in Purple Rain. This is a lipstick which is creamy and moisturizing and matte, it’s also highly pigmented and very buildable which I do love to build up my lip colors, and supposed to be long lasting which will be put to the test. This shade, Better Call Salmon, is a rosy mauve shade that is a shade that is like your lips but better. I can’t wait to try this because I do love lip colors by brands I have tried before or never tried before and hoping to get more of. Maybe I should use this during my week long tech training since its matte.
Inc. Readible You Glow Girl Jelly Highlight in Cosmic Blur: Final item is is a jelly highlight from Inc. Readible which is an interesting looking way of a makeup brand. When I saw that I was getting this product I was like, “Finally! A highlighter!” Even though it’s not powder, I thought it would be interesting since it’s a jelly consistency. This is supposed to be a soft and buildable formula that you can pack on as much you want. This is a ultraviolet color with blue flecks and it can be used on your brows, eyes, cheeks, and lips to add more glow. This is very creamy and slippery for what it is. It does meet its claims with that. I can’t wait to try this on my look.

This month’s bag was a nice change from what I’ve been getting. I get to try Makeup Forever which is a first since I have good things about their products and hoping to not have any oxidation on my hand, if it happens then eye primer it goes! I also get to try Beautiniq, Ic. Readible, and First Aid Beauty, which I heard good things about these guys and will have to see how well their moisturizer works on me. And glad to try another item from Sugar Cosmetics which this will be fun to try out their lip stuff. A pretty good bag and a nice change! I can’t wait to see what November brings and well have to change my address next month due to moving out.

That is it for this Ipsy bag and will see how the products work. I know it came slightly later than usual but hey still enjoyed it! What’s next? Well, looks like September and October Favorites! Until next time!

Beauty: Ipsy July 2018!

Hello to all of my beautiful nerds traveling the vast universe! I am back with a new post and guess what, my Ipsy is back!

Ipsy July 2018!

It’s back! It’s back! I am glad to be subscribed to Ipsy again and it’s been a long year and a half to two years because my story behind that I used to use my dad’s account to get Ipsy since I didn’t have my account with my funds I get every month and since that got transferred over I am glad to get it back. When I noticed that I had enough to start this subscription again after getting invites back to Ipsy I decided it was time after not getting it and being sad with YouTube videos about it. The funny thing was that I was originally supposed to get August’s bag first because when I got my very first bag it was August 2014’s bag and after getting finger printed for the job offer I was surprised by an email saying, “Congrats! Your Glam Bag is On Its Way!” In the subject area and I did ask them about it and guess what? They had extra slots for July and I was happy and surprised that I was getting my July bag first! Hey, it was better than waiting and they did say they didn’t want me to wait until next month so happy early birthday? Let’s see what they welcomed me back with shall we?

July Bag: It looks like they changed things up since the last time I got a bag and it looks like no theme and I think they stopped doing themes now and it is sometimes hard to catch up because there were times where I forgot it and just dive right in. I also noticed that with videos they have been paying attention to profiles a lot more because back in the past I remembered so many people complained on Facebook about their bag containing products that don’t match them at all, that they didn’t mark products but getting them anyways, etc. I remembered first signing up that it did mention in the fine print, “Not guaranteed to get what’s on your profile because this is a sampling service.” Which I did get items I didn’t like or want and just traded them or gave them away and now that my profile is marked better it seems like they matched me pretty well and wishing they didn’t get my age wrong since they thought I was 34 when I said I was born in 1985.

Another change that happened was they added something new and that’s Ipsy Shopper where with products that you get you get to click on a button the page for that product to buy it and you get cash back and it is kind of like Ebates where you get the check after getting $5 or more. I might consider this if I like the products and have some money left over let’s see how it goes!

The Bag: The bag is really cute! It’s like the bags I remembered getting where the zipper is an inch from the top instead of really on top and it feels like vinyl almost. It’s also very shiny and kind of reminds you of a mermaid. Also the zipper tag was protected by some kind of plastic which I took off! Very cute!

BKR Water Balm: First item which is in the envelope is by BKR and it’s a Water Balm. Never heard of this brand until I got this product. That’s what I like about Ipsy is that they get brands I hardly ever heard of and I get to try them out. This brand is known for a water bottle that the staff at Ipsy have and is considered as a beauty product due to the hydration that water gives and that is a huge key to have a healthy complexion which I do agree since I’ve been drinking a lot of water after being ill a few times. This is the Paris Water balm that includes sixteen healthy plant actives including Mediterranean Algae, French Rose, and bio lipids and the algae is supposed to keep your lips healthy and not only that can be used on your cuticles too which makes it better. Also great to use as a lip product base which can help with liquid lipsticks due to how drying a lot of them are. I did try it out and it does go on very smoothly.
Smash Box Cosmetics Always on Liquid Lipstick in Stepping Out: Next is a liquid lipstick by Smash Box and it’s from their Always on Line. I always wanted to try these and glad to get it even though it’s a sample size. I did notice a lot of people got their waterproof concealer which I didn’t mark that I wanted concealers since I use my NYX one in light and I did hear that it does oxidize and I am not a part of that life. I am glad to get this though since I do love lip products. I do thank Ipsy to get me into Smash Box but I haven’t been giving them much love as much as Urban Decay has been from me. I have heard their new shadow trios are pretty good though. This shade is a deep mauve nude and it lasts for eight hours which that will be a great test to do and apparently this does have primer oils so you don’t need a lip primer, which I have to try and see if that’s true.
Sugar Cosmetics Stroke Of Genious Heavy-Duty Kohl in Purple Rain: Next is an eyeliner pencil from Sugar Cosmetics. I think I never got anything from these guys and I was looking for a purple eyeliner months ago but hey not bad to have another one just in case. Some people thought this was a lip liner but actually Kohl is meant for the eyes and if you remembered from Egyptian times it’s the eyeliner they made in order to line their lines to help block out the sun from their eyes from what I heard and if you remembered from the artwork too it’s what you see in any portraits of the Pharaohs and servants. I did kind of felt the tip and oh man this is super creamy! This is also supposed to be a waterproof formula with eight hours of wear time without smudging and fading, which this will be a great test since I am thinking of trying some of these products and take a picture for Instagram. If you aren’t following me there, Mari Blue Cat is my display name. Also, this won’t tug on your eyes from what JAWS is telling me which is good to know since people are still saying that’s a bad thing. I do notice how sometimes eyeliners do skip which that is why I go back and forth to make sure it’s going on right. Let’s see how this goes!
Ittse Matte Eye Shadow in Changing to Flats: Next is an eye shadow single from a brand called Ittse. I remembered Coffee Break with Dani talked about these guys and they are almost like Colour Pop in a way due to pricing but their shadows are two bucks more minus the cash back which you do get with this. It’s an eye shadow pan which is great to add to my Z-Pallet and it’s almost the size as my Makeup Geeks and the smaller Ofra ones I got from Boxy Charm from my very last box. It’s a matte plum shade and I think this will go good with one of my Balm shadows and the Treasure shadow from Pacifica that I got in Ipsy Bags Past, let’s see how it will look. I remembered in someone’s video they swatched this and hardly any pigment, let me see in my peripheral vision if it does. It didn’t show but to be fair with some shadows if you’re swatching on the hand they sometimes don’t show up there but will show on the eyes, let’s see how it goes when I do put it on top of my primer and my Pearl Fizz shadow from Tini Beauty which I am trying to pan at the moment so that’s my setting shadow for my primer at the moment and did get it in Ipsy many years ago.
IBY Beauty Eye Shadow Fluff Brush: Final item is a brush from IBY Beauty! One thing besides most products I love getting are brushes! As you know I used to paint and well after going blind makeup has been my other creative outlet. I was happy to get this brush in my Ipsy bag this month and I don’t think I’ve gotten any of IBY’s brushes before. I have heard of these guys since many people have gotten their items in the past. I have to test this brush since this is good to put down defining shadows on my lid area and will see how it goes with the Ittse shadow.

Way to go Ipsy! This was an amazing bag especially with me coming back for a subscription again! I am glad that they are going with people’s profiles and this was a great match with me. The brush is nice and soft, I think I put adventurous in shadows or lip colors I forget but they did match me very well with both since hazel eyes go well with purple shadows and Jeffree Starr, haven’t mentioned his name in a while here, did say purples are hard to formulate and I agree with that since some of the shadows in the Revealed 3 were hard for some people. Hoping the shadow does translate well to my eyes. I’m also glad that I am trying out the Always on Liquid Lipstick and who knows I might get some in the future in how well it goes. And the eye pencil will definitely use and same with that water balm which does feel nice on the lips, let’s see how well it works as a lip base! Thank you Ipsy and can’t wait for August! I am going to wait a little while before I get back to Boxy Charm since now they are doing a pallet every month but my drawer is stuffed with pallets who knows when I can keep on doing my Project Pan. Let’s see what the future holds but definitely staying with Ipsy!

What’s next? I am going back to Assistive Tech with talking about Be My Eyes since I mentioned that I met the creators at the NFB National Convention! You may want to stick around for this so until next time! Make sure you follow us at Twittter @ Nerdy Shique for all of the latest updates!

Bests and Worsts of 2015

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Guess what? HAPPY NEW YEAR! Yes, it’s that time again and that is ringing in 2016 once our midnight rools around here in the states! To make tradition even better, it’s time for the Bests and Worsts of 2015 according to us at Nerdy Shique Universe! Let’s start with our Bests!

BESTS!

Best EP: Soul Switch’s Regenerate album! This year was a big year for our friends of Soul Switch! This past April they released their third album, Regenerate, and even had an album release party at the House of Blues. We also got to interview Jimmy Kwong and Matt Larson from the band! I loved this album and sing along when I saw them last, hell I even did the growls and screams the best I could along with “Demons.” Hoping they come out with another video since “Hang On” is a great song and video, I recommend these guys since you might be able to find them on ITunes! I also did recommend them to Rhett Fisher who played the Titanium Ranger on Light Speed Rescue along with our other buddies in Traverser! Speaking of which, we did have David from Traverser appear in that interview but will have a full on interview with them when their next album, Jupiter Doesn’t Care About You, drops next year! Congrats Soul Switch!

Best Come Back for a Local Band: Leaving Haven! Well, the reason why I am mentioning this is that a year or two ago we heard of Leaving Haven and back then we didn’t like their music style nor their performance style either. Once we heard one of their songs on Native Noise all thanks to a friend, we noticed how much they changed and then when we saw them perform on the night of Soul Switch’s album release, they improved tremendously! Their performance style and music have improved and we noticed it that night the most. I have two of their CDs and they are amazing! I would highly recommend this band.
Best Event We Finally Went To: Earth Day Birthday 22! We finally went to it after hearing so many things happening and who was going to be there this year and that is Earth Day Birthday! For many years, Gondras and I always wanted to go to this thing, especially the years Sevendust made their stage appearances many times over and over again, even before we saw them at Carnival of Madness back in 2010! As you know, I have been a fan of Sevendust ever since I heard the song “Denial” back in 2003. This year got us going because our buddies in Soul Switch announced at their album release that they are going to open the show and we got there to see that. It was kind of sad that Florida Anime Experience was that same weekend and they were bringing people from Evangelion and haven’t gotten to meet Tiffany Grant. So, we sent Papa Jeriyah on a special mission to get stuff signed by her, Spike, Brina Palencia since she’s Rei in the new movies, and Trina Nishimura even though we were catching up with her at Omni and getting to interview her. Was it worth it? Yes. I do love anime but music has been a major love and this year’s Earth Day Birthday did have artists Gondras and I do like which included Flyleaf, Trapt, Sevendust of course which was a last minute add on after Bush back outdue to a stalker situation, Buck Cherry, and the main band we really wanted to see the most and that is Rise Against! We seen them once in Orlando at the UCF Arena and got to see them again and perform some of their music from Black Market. What surprised Gondras when they performed “Chamber the Cartridge” from their Sufferer and the Witness album which he didn’t know that was a song they did and now he knows about it. Next year’s line up for this thing…he and I agree this year’s took the cake since next year they are having Hailstorm, Escape the Fate, and 311. Not sure if we will go to another, let’s see how time will tell!

Best Interview at a Con: The Cast from Attack on Titan! It was hard to choose for what was the best interview we have done this year but this has to go to the ones we did with Mike McFarland, who directed, Bryce Papenbrook, Eren Yeger, Josh Grelle, Armen, Trina Nishimura, Mikasa, and Lauren Landa, Annie Lockheart. As you guys know, I already interviewed Matthew Mercer during 2014 and apparently it was one of the most viewed posts here on Word Press which I thank you guys for that! Anyways, we had fun interviewing these guys, especially Lauren which it went into many tangents towards the end, not sure if the video camera caught it but we had fun with her, Bryce, and even Josh as well! I do have one entry for Bryce and that is…

Best Headbreaking Moment: Bryce Papenbrook Revealing His Daddy’s Voice! If you haven’t seen the video, but I asked Bryce how did he get into voice acting and that is through his dad, which by the way was a major surprise! I didn’t reveal it to many people because we wanted to have everyone see the video first and then hear many heads break and now will reveal it. Bryce Papenbrook’s dad was the voice of Rito Revulto on Power Rangers. Our reactions were priceless! I did watch clips after the convention and was surprised even more, he is very talented and see where Bryce got his talent from! You can hear Bryce’s voice as Maliotis in Seven Deadly Sins which you can catch on Net Flix! It is very good series by what we saw and people are starting to cosplay from it, we seen a few and taken pics, which you will see in our Holiday Matsuri gallery coming soon! So, enjoy that series!

Best Correction in an Interview: Josh Grelle Correcting Me With His Last Name! Another unsuspecting moment and that was when I was introducing you guys to Josh Grelle. The thing was I pronounced his last name with the pronunciation all thanks to my screen reader and when you see part one, you hear him correct me. It is actually pronounced “Greely” and so glad he helped out! Now I know how to say it whenever we meet him again since I have Attack On Titan Part 2 all nice and clean and waiting for Sharpie ink to touch! He is the voice of the devil in Devil As a Part Tim,er.

Best Voice Actor for a Convention: Jessica Calvello! Oh man, had to mention this one and it was hard to think who would’ve been the best since conventions do get pretty good guests to appear. This category goes to someone who hasn’t appeared at a Florida con by what I remember and that is Jessica Calvello! Due to how Omni was doing all Attack on Titan for the most part, Jessica was one of the actors who appeared and she does the voice of Honshi the scientist who loves looking at titans! Not only she does the voice but she did appear in cosplay as her character for Omni Expo! As in, jacket, glasses, and everything else and even acted like her throughout the thing, there was a part where her character ran into a door and did that as the 18+ Saturday panel with Matt Mercer, she explained what she was doing and wished I recorded that but it wasn’t allowed. But I can say that she also fangirled over Matt’s voice, who wouldn’t, I have been too and he is Number 1 on my Sexiest Voices in Anime and Gaming! I wonder how she would react to his British accent? Anyways, she was funny and very friendly and also very talented, even as Rip Van Winkle in Hellsing Ultimate Abridged.
Runners Up: Todd Habercorn and Joshua Seth! It was hard choosing runner ups because these two were also great at the same convention and that is Todd Habercorn and Joshua Seth! They are entertaining when it comes to panels, even you will get a lot of laughs from my interview with Mr. Seth as well. Couldn’t help but also finding Todd’s photo and signing war with Jess Harnell even funnier. On top of that, their panel with Sean Schemmel and Grey Deloisle as well.

Best Guessing My Age Moment: Walter Jones and Austin St. John at Ranger Stop! I had to put this on here because everyone knows that I don’t look my age! I turned 30 this past year and when people look at me they have to do a double take! Even when the ID gets taken out, it’s even harder to believe that I was born in 1985. This past year I went to Ranger Stop and told some of the people I was into Power Rangers when it first came to the states back in the early 90’s and was seven around then! When Austin St. John and Walter Jones asked me how old I was, I asked them “How old do you think I am?” They were guessing around the twenties, but Walter had more in the teens and then revealed I was 30! Austin was a bit speechless and then said, “You look good for it!” and Walter was like “Nooooo! Really!?” Hell, should’ve said, Veronica Taylor was speechless when I told her which she was actually speechless at AFO since I just turned it.

Best T-Shirt Props: The Rita Repulsa “Make My Monsters Grow” Shirt from Aardvark Tees! I had to mention this because so many people loved it when I wore it to Ranger Stop and it’s all thanks to Aardvark Tees! I got this shirt during AFO from their stand and it is of Rita Repulsa throwing rare candy to some Pokemon and it says “Make My Monster Grow!” It made sense and great thing about it, while asking my question during Ranger Recap’s Pre-Con panel for the regular pass holders they had the camera on my shirt! Even the Blue Rangers pointed it out during their panel that same night! And Christopher Kaman Lee saw it and asked where I got it from since he recognized it and told him I got it from Aardvark’s stand during AFO. I did get props for my Iron Man hoodie since it did get cool in the evening and morning during the convention!

Funniest Internet Review: Anime Abandoned Review on Jungle De Ikou! Yes, time to point out the best internet stuff for this year! Starting with the Funniest Review and that is by hannel Awesome’s own Bennet the Sage with his show Anime Abandoned! We got to meet him during MythiCon and did go to his 18+ Panel and of course Q&A which you can catch on YouTube, the Q&A one! He does very funny reviews on many anime OVAs and movies and an occasional series review. Some of these include Wicked City, Akira, even the InuYasha Movie which I should’ve included that as the funniest review for last year but forgot about it. This year I give it to his review for a really bad OVA known as Jungle De Ikou! It is a bit on the mature side and it does have jokes that are kind of….make you want be like how Bennet says it in his review, “WHAT!?” Basically the plot deals with a girl gets a magical totem figure from her dad who returns from New Guinea, Africa and gets visited by a spirit in her dreams and gets told if she gets in trouble while meeting the eviler spirit that was locked away to do a special dance. Yeah, the dance is ridiculous, ejven one of the other girls have a Macarena type dance but Bennet does end the review early due to it because…yeah…you have to watch it to see what I mean. What I like about watching Bennet is that he does make good points, even with this review talking about how there are bad movies out there and comedies that exist that are equally bad how this anime goes with the movie known as Movie 43. The jokes are pretty funny and he does quote Mad Max: Fury Road! If you are around my age, give it a watch and prepare to laugh your lungs out, Gondras and I sure did!
Runner Up: Nostalgia Critic Reviewing Fury Road! I know, what!? Well, around the time Fury Road came out Nostalgia Critic reviewed it and man he pulled a lot in making the review as a movie type review with his crew. We haven’t seen Fury Road ourselves but we seen the review and you should see it as well, the jokes a very good and does discuss it pretty well.

Death Battle of the Year: Death Stroke vs. Dead Pool! Most of us who have seen Death Battle on Screw Attack know that they have awesome pairings like Felicia from Darkstalkers vs. Taokaka from Blaze Blue, Iron Man vs. Lex Luther, and the one that really have us laughing and loving is Death Stroke from D. C. Comics vs. Dead Pool from Marvel! With the comparing stats, the episode got Dead Pool’s breaking the fourth wall like always and even hilarious in messing with Wiz and Boomstick. I would say watch Death Battle, even this battle if you’re a fan of Dead Pool or Death Stroke since they are entertaining and very informative! Anyways, don’t want to spoil who wins if anyone hasn’t watched it but the battle was pretty close!
Runner Up: Gaara vs. Toff! Yes, have to mention this one because it was one that Gondras thought I would be disappointed because I love Gaara from Naruto but at the same time Toff is my fave Avatar: The Last Airbender character. Both stats were very good but there is one thing, they pitted a guy against a skilled Earth Bender that can use the sand and the golden sand to her advantage. Yeah, sorry, ust spoiled that Toff won this battle. As always said, never underestimate the power of a blind girl, even when she Earth bends!

Internet Reviewer of the Year: Louis Lovehog aka Linkara! This was a pick from Gondras and I agree so I created this one and that is “Internet Reviewer of the Year” and this year it goes to Linkara from Channel Awesome! Why? Well, he has done awesome reviews when it has comes to comics, even caught up with all the Power Rangers for his History of the Power Rangers since he has done Super Mega Force recently, and has done really good story work with his movie! I haven’t seen the movie yet but heard it’s really good from Gondras but I seen enough of his comic book reviews that he makes really good sci-fi- story segments on his show! This is why he should be a guest at more Florida cons, especially Orlando after MythiCon ending! I did suggest him to AFO due to the Power Rangers stuff since I did watch In Space, Lost Galaxy, soon to watch Light Speed Rescue and Time Force after watching his reviews on those seasons! He even used clips from Attack On Titan Abridged during his Jungle Fury review and that is one other season I may see all thanks to him. Still he is a really good reviewer even when you go to his live panel at cons like we have the past two years. That is why Mr. Linkara, you get Internet Reviewer of the Year here on Nerdy Shique Universe!

Best Movie: Star Wars: The Force Awakens! Yeah, I know it seems abovious but think about it this way, it has been years since we got a new Star Wars movie evne though the prequels weren’t the best. I didn’t even seen the third one out of those because of how Episode 2 felt like I could make a drinking game out of the many “My lords!” and “My ladies!” they say throughout the film! When we heard that the story after The Return of the Jedi will be continuing and JJ Abrams will be directing it, we were worried and a bit skeptical since the new Star Trek films were not that great. We saw this on Christmas and man we enjoyed it! Hell, we even applauded when we saw Han, Chewy, and Lea returning in this film with the rest of the audience! Even the emotions in this movie was kept in tact since the original three really got us loving them with the suspense, emotions, and the action that is linked to it. Ohhh we can’t wait for the next episode with how this one ended on a very nice note! If you haven’t seen this film, you must!
Runner Up: Ant Man! II know, I know! Why wasn’t Age of Ultron the Runner Up? Well, I think that Ant Man kind of deserved it a bit more in my opinion! Yes, I was excited like everyone else about the second Avengers movie and how interesting it was with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, plus having Jarvis being humanish. Ant Man, on the other hand, had a more interesting premise! It told the story differently as a way of passing down the mantle of Ant Man to someone new due to Hank Pim being older and it’s good to see that instead of the original story behind it. We are going to get glimpses of Hank in the next season of Agent Carter from what we see and it’s good to get the idea of the story before the movie in the show. Michael Douglas as always had a great performance, not only that this movie gave us our next glimpse into Civil War and we got to see one of the Avengers on top of it!

Worsts

Worst Press Turn Down: AFO! Yes, got to mention this because it was one of the worst things I went through this year. Not only with personal life but of course with being turned down hard by Anime Festival Orlando for press. We have given great chances by great conventions such as MetroCon in Tampa, MythiCon, now Holiday Matsuri, but the big one that gave us the biggest chance to do press was of course Omni Expo because they found us due to a typo! If you read all the press stuff we done, we didn’t start this blog to get free passes into conventions, we started this blog back on Blogger when Hot Topic discontinued their first cosmetics line and it blossomed from there into other things like gaming, cosplay, and many more! Plus, we brought you interviews with voice actors like Dameon Clarke, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, Lauren Landa, and so much more! Now we have Joshua Seth and Todd Habercorn to add to that long list! I know I am harping it but all I have to say is we worked hard and if AFO doesn’t want to give us that chance even in 2016 and beyond, well we go to the next convention and try there! Even Ranger Stop is letting us try out again for next year, who knows if we get that one.

Worst Band: Blaine the Mono! I have to mention these guys here because ughhhhh! I respect a lot of local acts but Blaine the Mono is not one of them. Their music is not that great, it would improve greatly if the lead singer doesn’t scream or get a different person. Let me describe the screams, they sound like harpie screeching in my ears, really! We first heard about these guys when they performed at the House of Blues on the night that Soul Switch did their album release and they didn’t get better by the time we saw them operform with Mr. Bella and Soul Switch in September. Some people said they were better than Mr. Bella but here’s the thing…Gondras notices how the bandmates in Mr. Bella play music that fits the range of their lead singer and I agree with that! Blaine the Mono…not so much! Plus, there werne’t many people cheering for them as much as people were cheering for Mr. Bella and Soul Switch combined! Sorry to say, Blaine the Mono needs to improve or don’t come back because the competition is getting bigger!

The Most Meh Month for Beauty Subscriptions: May! I had to mention this because it kind of fits the Worsts categories and that is how the month of May was a bit of a meh month for Ipsy and BOxyCharm. I have been a member of both for over a year now and the products that I got in both were okay, not the best, just meh! I did like the lipstick I got in BoxyCharm which was the Lip Bar, which really made me excited about that. Ipsy, it felt like they focused a bit more on the anti-aging stuff more than any other items, heck I got the Blue Iceland eye patches but gave them to my mom since I wouldn’t be using them. December was also a bit meh but mostluy for Ipsy since two of the products were ones I swapped for better items while the rest were five star worthy items, heck even the Elizabeth Mott eye primer had me at happy because I got to try something else from the brand. I am hoping with 2016 that there won’t be much of meh months for both because the selections of products would be better. Heck, crossing my fingers on the Revealed Smoky pallet from Coastal Sense next year! Let’s see what it holds!

Well, that is it! Longest Wait for a Convention: Ranger Stop! Uhhhhhhhh! Seriously, never thought with a convention I would have to wait for the longest time for everything on the first day! What do I mean by that? Well, I had to wait until 2 PM to pick up my three day pass, wait until 4 PM to be let in, well mostly 4:30 since I wasn’t VIP, so yeah, longest wait ever! Most conventions just open around 10 in the morning and then dealer room around noon for VIP and an hour later for regular passes, Matsuri was 11 AM to open up dealer room for VIP! But nope, Ranger Stop opened their dealer room at 5! I know it seems like I am ranting but this convention needs to look at how some of the other ones run because it would help immensely, especially where this is the convention that felt like it catered to the VIP holders more than regular pass holders, which there were more events for VIP than doing more panels and special events. I will try again for press and hoping next year they have a better convention not only that did see there wasn’t much of a great turn out for Saturday since I only went for two days after knowing Sunday didn’t have much to do. Again, they need to improve with events and panels the most.

Well, that is it for this year’s Bests and Worsts. There weren’t that many worst things but still the worst of them all was the AFO Press thing and it still stings! I feel as though this year had a lot of bests and it is hard to fit them into one post so I stuck to what was the most best ones of all! There were great other moments from conventions like how Steve Cardinas thought my cane was a wizard staff and of course finally finding the Tiger and Bunny messenger bag I was looking for! And of course, showing up as Lucy to Todd Habercorn’s signings, first time doing it was at AFO after not seeing him since 2012 and shown my appreciation for trying Fairy Tail again.

What will 2016 bring? Well, crossing our fingers on year three of Omni Expo press! They gave us a major chance in press and hoping they give us a third time doing it. Plus, they are earlier this year due to MegaCon now being in May! I am not sure if we are going, I am almost thinking about press for it but at the same time it might not work or anything. I will have to look into that. Any new cosplays? Well, my Pokemon designs will be extending since I am thinking, hoping to get done by Omni, doing Link from Legend of Zelda as a Pokemon Ranger! I already got the Silveon plush, gotta get the rest of the parts! And of course, Lucy as a Pokemon Trainer! Not sure what got me thinking to do it but it came out of nowhere in my thoughts and already got a Vaporeon for Aquarius!

Of course, we will be looking forward to Captain America: Civil War! Even Dead Pool despite not being done by Marvel but it is already proving to be hilarious!

More to come in 2016! Stay tuned for the rest of our Holiday Matsuri coverage in January, hoping we get it up before December next year sneaks up on us again! Hey, 2015 did that to us and the next will do it too.

So, have a safe Happy New Year and be careful driving! So, til next time and follow us on Twitter if you haven’t!

Favorites: November and December 2015!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Since we’re waiting on posting the Joshua Seth interview from Holiday Matsuri, I thought that I should do my November and December Favorites! Damn! 2015 went out the window! I think when I turned 30 the year went faster than usual! Well, I do have a lot of beauty faves especially subscription related items! Let’s see what I liked!

ELF Illuminating Pallet: First up is the ELF Illuminating pallet which was released during late October early November since it was a re-release of the Ambient Pallet that they released this past summer. I didn’t know about the Ambient one until it sold out and it was limited edition, which is kind of sad to know that until I found out that ELF released this one, I had my chance and got it! It was $6 and it’s not that bad for a pallet and it is soft with the glitter, as in it is not powerful nor chunky, it gives a nice light to the cheeks. I used one when I done Lucy for Holiday Matsuri and felt like wearing it at times to add a nice illumination to the skin. I will re-purchase whenever I hit pan.

MAC Eye Shadow in Ascent to Glimmer: During October leading up to Halloween, MAC released a vampy line for lipsticks and eye shadows, I also think they released highlighters which people went crazy for one of them. I did get a shadow finally which I wanted to try MAC’s eye shadows for a while now and got it in Adcent to Glimmer! It is a very beautiful purple cobalt blue that has shimmer! I worn this during Ranger Stop with my blue cat ears and it matched! I am sad that this is limited edition but I will still wear it, doesn’t mean I can’t still find a dupe or ask MAC what is similar to it.

Maybelline Collosal Cat Eyes Mascara: Another eye product I love and that is my Maybelline Collosal Cat Eyes mascara! I love this thing! It makes my lashes spikey and feel like I have lashes like a cat or a cat girl at least. I will definitely purchase this mascara again!

Benefit Roller Lash Mascara: Oh yeah, something I’ve been reaching like crazy and that is the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara! I just tossed my deluxe sample which I will miss so much, but I did get it for free when Ulta sent me a free coupon for it and hoping I get another one of those coupons. I love how this mascara curls my lashes and feels like I put a roller on my lashes. Hoping I get this one again in the near future due to how I loved it and always reached for it when I am in my train case!

Lord of Missrule from Lush: Oh man, I went a bit Lush crazy lately and was sad to use up and that is the Lord of Missrule Shower Cream! I got this in the bat hibi jibi they did this past October and man it smells amazing! It is a citrusy smell with black pepper oil in it which I was afraid it might be spicy, no it wasn’t! It was like a sweet citrus smell and used it with the next favorite on here and it made my skin feel soft as well.

Night Wing Shower Jelly from Lush: My next fave, I also used up, is the Night Wing shower gel! This got me back into using shower jellies by Lush, which I don’t know why I stopped using them after loving the Sweetie Pie one that came in the Very Berry gift box Gondras got me for Valentine’s Day when we started going out. I know, aww! I love the smell, it has a dark citrus smell and it goes well with Lord of Missrule shower gel, also used it with Snow Fairy which made it a nice, earthy type smell. I hope this returns with the Lord shower cream next year, I would buy a bigger size of the shower cream and get the regular size of the shower jelly because this does last me a month. The girl at the airport location tried to suggest the bigger size but the regular one keeps me good for a month like the medium shower gels!

NYX Eyebrow Mascara: Forgot to mention this with mascaras but this is for the brows!I decided to start using clear eyebrow mascara since it is easier than matching your eyebrow color to a pencil or colored gel because there are times when it doesn’t match the brow exactly and there are times when they have different shades than your actual color. Using the clear one saves me the hassle and the NYX brand is really good! I have been using this whenever I do my make up and it keeps my brows in place, even more than the Chella one I tried through BoxyCharm. It also doesn’t cost a lot to get either, you can find it at Ulta and Target pretty easily too.

Fave Eye Look: Bronzed Taupe from L’Oreal, Carnival from Inspr, and Bone from Hikari! Decided to mention my fave eye look since I rarely talk about that and I worn this during Thanksgiving for a nice neutral look! It deals with using Bronzed Taupe from L’Oreal Infolluble Eye Shadow line, Carnival from Inspr, which I love from the November Ipsy bag, which is from Inspr Cosmetics btw, and Bone from Hikari as my highlight and then blend them altogether and gives a nice taupe eye look! I find it very simple and may use it more and more! The Carnival shadow I couldn’t exactly find it, Inspr’s website is weird, you have to choose the color you’re looking for and they don’t give you the shade name just color. It would be nice if they give you shade names but I did find a nice replacement and that is Hanky Panky from Colour Pop! Yes, I started buying Colour Pop slightly and was looking for a taupe and found this one while searching! Can’t wait to see how it works!

Delium Tools Blending Brush: Have to mention a brush and that is the blending brush by Delium Tools! I got this in Ipsy and love how it blends my eye shadows together! It even blends anything when I put it on top of a Color Tattoo on my eyes! I do have the Delium Tooks eye brush set which makes it even more fun when it comes to have a lot of eye brushes and can’t have enough!

Luxie Concealer Brush: This one came from Boxy and it’s the Luxie Under Eye Concealer brush! It is so simple to use and it helps blend my Cover Girl Invisble Lift concealer I use under my eyes all the time! Some people complained that the bristles are hard and they hurt but with me, it sort of hurts but it blends very well! This is my second Luxie item I’ve ever gotten and want one of their brush sets since I do go brush crazy!

Royal Lannickle Moda Eye Brush: I got this in October through Ipsy but fell in love with it since I used it throughout November and December and that is the Royal Langnickle eye brush! I find it interesting that this company is also a paint brush company that now makes make up brushes and I can see why! This brush puts the lid color on flawlessly and it feels very good while using it! I did get a small set but lost one of the brushes somehow after Matsuri, I used it for highlighter but don’t know what happened to it! Asked Gondras but didn’t find it I believe. I will find it! I think I also bought their paint brushes back in the past when I done Drawing classes, but this is a good brand to buy from!

Not So Faves: ELF Face Primers: I do have a not-so-fave and that is the ELF Face Primers! I switched up my face primers due to the Ulta Matte Prime was starting to getting even more expensive to purchase more and more! I tried NYX’s Matte Face Primer, didn’t like that one as much due to how too much of a cream it was, the Rimmel Matte Primer that I love and still purchase and then did try out ELF’’s Poreless and Mineral Primers. The Poreless one was pretty good and it had my make up on smoothly and kept it on and then Gondras handed me the Mineral one to take a try and one thing I didn’t like the most is that the Mineral one made my skin itch after application, even later on in the day! It kind of done that with the Poreless but not as bad as the Mineral one. I am sorry ELF but I can’t use these and what I don’t like the most is that they are greasy like crazy! Mostly the Mineral one is the greasiest one and the Poreless one gave off a weird herbal scent. What did I do? I went back to the Rimmel Stay Matte Primer because I love how cool it is when putting it on, it feels like more of a paste and it holds my make up very well and it doesn’t make my skin itcy at all! ELF, please make one for sensitive skin, as in with ingredients that won’t make my skin react as badly as the Mineral one then I will come back!

Favorite Books: Bound to Darkness and Stroke of Midnight by Lara Adrian: You know I always been loving the Midnight Breed Series and finally I read book 13 and 13.5 which are Bound to Darkness and Stroke of Midnight. I was glad Bound shows the relationship between Caris and Rune and it does answer the question from Marked by Midnight about the family that Rune and Nova came from, so it tells you who they are really! I don’t want to reveal too much because of anyone who haven’t read it like I did. I am re-reading it for Net Gally to review because it hadn’t been promoted enough and Net Gally is pretty awesome for anyone who does reviews for blogs, newspapers, and so on. It is pretty much you request a book, they send it when it gets approved, and send you the book through Kindel and then you review it when you’re done! I know it sounds weird for me to re-read it but there are times when I love to re-read things and I have been doing that with Midnight Breed and this time it is good for reviewing. With Stroke, on the other hand, it pretty much deals with one of the Rome team vampires getting his breedmate through a ritual that is tradition between his family and hers and while starting that ritual they had to leave in order to help a refugee camp nearby. As they are there, something evil lurks! This will link to the next book which is Defy the Dawn and that deals with Tavia’s half-sister Brine. It is getting better as time goes on but the story does twist and turn with each book and now novella since you have to read those to get more of the story as it goes! If you’re around my age, I still recommend this and the vampires aren’t like the Twilight ones, think of it like Buffy the Vampire Slayer where the vampires have weapons and the females have special powers due to family background and they are as strong as Buffy, Willow, and Cordelia!

Favorite Make Up Caryring Case: Caboodles Ultimate Carrying Train Case! Man, that is a mouthful! Recently I had to get a new carrying case for my all-time make up and it was starting to take over the bag I used and I hated how things fell out and lost it. I went to WalMart’s website to see about getting a train case and unfortunately I didn’t get the one I ordered on time and then didn’t get when they sent a replacement, which sucked, and then got a refund but they only gave me $18 out of the $23 I spent. I am not ordering from their website ever again after this crap that was pulled! Heck, I was afraid my BoxyCharm this month would go through the same thing but it did get to me while I was away. I had to settle on the Caboodles Ultimate Train Case and they aren’t kidding when it is ultimate! It has six trays like the Stylus one I wanted first and I was able to fit all my brushes, blushes, foundation, concealers, and so much more! I even have some of my fave shadow palleets such as the Too Faced Chocolate Bar, the Stardust one, the three NYX Dream Catcher pallets, my ELF Everyday Smoky, and of course the two ELF blush and Illuminating apllets! I love this thing even when I left for Matsuri because it also locks up and I can find my make up very easily along with my brushes because I had a struggle finding each brush but now it’s just on top and there you go! I have to put some of my brushes in a diagonal position when putting them away because some of them are bigger than the tray but it helps to do that! If you find this train case or the Stylist one I wanted so badly, get this because not only it’s a tad bit pricey, I got the Stylist while on sale and now it’s sold out, I am like screw it! Anyways, it’s worth the $30 with a case like this!

Well, that is it! I know it’s a long post but hey, at least I got out there for you to read! What is next? Of course waiting on Gondras to finish editing the Joshua Seth interview, not sure if I want to put up Todd’s first which I am thinking about doing that instead and at the same time not! Not sure yet. I still have my Bests and Worsts of this year, which I want to put that out there as well. I know I tend to put my fave con moments if I went through conventions with both months but at the same time want to save it for Bests and Worsts with Ranger Stop and Matsuri due to mentioning Omni Expo and AFO along with the Best and Worst stuff. Don’t want to be repetitive with all that. Stay tuned for that! Also, follow us on Twitter!

Ipsy and BOxyCharm: August 2015

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, another month and another time for Ipsy and BoxyCharm! I finally got both in the mail, well BoxyCharm came before my Ipsy bag which is weird since they either come at the same time or Ipsy comes first but it was the other way around. It seemed that BoxyCharm also shown up first while I was away for AFO, which my review will be up next for that. Let’s see what I got in both!

Ipsy: This month’s theme was “Prep School” and it fits since some states start school in August while others don’t start til next month, Ipsy usually kicks it off with their bag and unlike last year, the bag was very different! Last year’s bag was a pencil case type bag and the items were tiny compared to other items in other months and a lot of people didn’t like it. I did and I got the idea of the theme while this year it was more of a hounds tooth-like bag and very textured. It kind of feels like last month’s bag but more plastic/vinyl feeling and inside you have a cloth material. It is a pretty decent size this year and the items fit with this year which a lot of Ipsters got pencil-type items and other things you may use in school, especially when a lot of younger teens have been getting into make up and I always remembered standing behind girls hogging the mirrors and sinks putting on make up. Anyways, I did get one item I had to give to my mom and the rest was good!

Ofra Cosmetics Lip Liner in Wine! To start my Prep School bag is a liner pencil and it’s for the lips! As said, a lot of Ipsters got pencil items to fit with the theme and lip liner pencils were part of it and I got my lip liner from Ofra Cosmetics, which I have tried products from them such as my first Ipsy Me offer of an eye shadow pallet, the shimmery blush stripes from BoxyCharm and also an eyeliner, forgot about that, and one of the points items in the points shop. I never tried a lip liner by these guys and it’s good to try out something new and it’s clever to put a lip liner in this, plus it’s my second lip liner I ever gotten and starting to use them here and there. It is in a wine nude color, I think it will go with a lot of my lip colors.

Doucce Precision Eye Liner in Black! Another pencil for the month and that is an eye liner pencil by a brand called Doucce. I gotten a face mask by this brand in BoxyCharm but gave it to my mom since it is meant for mature skin. I am glad to receive an eye liner by these guys because it lets me explore this brand more and of course eye liner is a major item I love to use and it’s good that I get these because I don’t have to buy so many eye liners in the store and let me try out newer brands. This is in black and it is very universal to have black liner since it is pretty much a base color to have. I have tons of black liners but hey I get to try out other companies while I use them up! It says on the page that is very precise and glides on very smoothly, which I like and it’s also a blends easily! Plus it’s full size, which I did get a liner sample last August from Lord and Berry, which that brand was also one of the others available this year, in black as well but used it up due to how tiny it was. At least it is full size and will last even longer! I hope to get more of this brand along the way!

Marc Anthony Argon Oil! Next is a hair product and it’s my second time trying out the brand Marc Anthony! As we all go back to school, we love to use hair products and this was a perfect time for Ipsy to give out hair items! Some Ipsters did receive a Brioggio volume spray and this argon oil by Marc Antony. I tried the hair spray and love it and got the full size of it and now this time I have a hair oil, I can’t wait to try it out since I have so many other hair items from both the subscriptions I have, like the Cool Way Leave in Oil, the Gorge Cosmetics Leave In Conitioner and the product I got in Boxy this month. I love getting hair items and this one is something good totry. And also good news, mine didn’t leak.

La Fresh Group Good Night Cream! This is something I gave to my mom because of its properties and that is La Fresh Group’s Good Night Night Cream. I know I should be happy since it is a night cream but not, this cream is meant for people with wrinkles and crow’s feet and I don’t have that. Yes, I know it’s hydrating but it is meant for older skin. Again, I would’ve been happy with nail polish instead or anything else but this is not something I use. At least my mom gets to put it to good use!

Hikari Lip Gloss! Yay! Another Hikari item! I love Hikari and and was super excited to find out that I was getting an item by them again and was looking forward to getting the lip gloss when I saw my Glam Room! A lot of Ipsters got this item and they got it in the color Salsa which is a red, not sure if it’s red but glad to try this out since I liked the Cabronet lipstick that I swapped for. Glad that Ipsy sent this to me and hoping they get more Hikari items in the future because this is a good company.

BoxyCharm: This month’s BoxyCharm was slightly better. It had more eye related products but one stood out in particular!

Coastal Sense Revealed 3! First item is the Coastal Sense Revealed 3 pallet! I was so happy to get it this month because I was hoping to get it in one of the boxes and decided to wait for that and my patience paid off. I did get the first two in December and April like everyone else and loved them and now the third pallet has come. This pallet has the twenty shades and it still has the cardboard covering but it feels more sturdier than the first two because it has more of the standard pallet look inside minus the magnets all over the place. This pallet has more of the pink and purple shades along with some bronze-like and taupe shades and one black one. I wore it and it felt great on the eyes, but the warning is that these are pretty powdery, so some tapping may be required with brushes. I hope they give out more Coastal Sense stuff because it is a great company to get items from!

Mica Beauty Gel Liner! Next is another eye product and it’s the Mica beauty gel liner in black. I stopped wearing the potted gel liners because not only they can kind of get messy but they started bothering my eyes a bit. That even includes the liquid liners since they do bother a little but the extra step is annoying and I prefer pencils now. I know they are meant for the upper part but it’s hard for me to apply there, that is why I put liquids and gels on the lower line on top of the pencil. I do like Mica beauty items, heck still using the eye primer I got in Ipsy, I won’t be using this and may give it away to Vivi or someone else.

Nio Sheild Texture Spray! Next up another hair product and it’s by Nio Sheild. I never heard of these guys before and it seems interesting, especially this spray or hair oil since it has a pump for that has SPF in it which would help with the scalp from sun damage. Perfect for Florida due to how we are known as the Sunshine State except a friend made a point that we should be the Thunder State due to how bad the weather’s been lately. Anyuway, this is a nice try since I can’t use any make up with SPF due to sensitivity, the hair may be better due to how it is supposed to help with texture and keeps frizz away with the argon oil in it. Perfect yet again! It also has Vitamin B and E5 which is also good. Wish they had this in stores around summer since it will help during this time of year. I will try it out and see how my frizz will be tamed.

So Susan Statement Highlighter Crayon! Yay! Another highlighting product ad another company I never heard of. Like in my many reviews, I like trying out new brands and it’s good to try them out in these subscriptions. This is a chiseled highlighter crayon and it is in the color Moonstone by what I heard from one video who got this. I tried it out and it is very easy to use because it goes on smoothly and easy to put on the cupid’s bow and nose. I think it goes on better than the highlighting pencil I got in Ipsy a few months back, heck this doesn’t need a sharpener since it’s self sharpening. Boxy and Ipsy needs to give out more highlighters after getting this.

Seta Eye Liner Brush! Last and definitely not least, the Seta eye liner brush, which may be useful besides in eye liner. How so? Well, since I started getting my Fairy Tail emblem painted on, it would be nice to get the small details painted a bit. Anyways, this is supposed to give you a nice precise and chiseled line on your lines and even. As said, since not using the gel liners, I would use this for getting any make up detailing for any other work.

Well, that’s it for this month. A better month for BoxyCharm since it did send the Revealed 3 this time and now have all three pallets, which will be showing to Vivi since she wants to check them out. Glad to get a hair product for the summer, wished they gave this out in May due to how hot the sun has been all summer. Then of course Ipsy with the lip and eye pencils, lip gloss, and another hair product. I will give away the gel liner from Mica since I stopped using those. All-in-all, great month and can’t wait what September will bring to these boxes.

What is next up for Nerdy Shique Universe? Convention Impossible with Anime Festival Orlando 2015! Will it be a Convention Acoomplished, Complete, or Aborted? Then I have two videos from two panels and will be starting a new segment known as “Doesn’t Sound the Same” with artists changing their music to fit with the times or just not how they used to be. And of course, forgot, the whole too young for make up thing. Stay tuned for all that!

2015Ipsy and BoxyCharm: July

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Finally got my Ipsy and BoxyCharm in the mail and it’s time to reveal what I got in this month’s bag and box! I was happy about Ipsy the most because not only I gave my buddy Vivi my link to join, since she was interested in joining Ipsy to expand her make up usage and that we do travel with conventions and it’s easy with samples that way, I was happy all in general with the items this month! Boxy, on the other hand, I was surprised by some things but it could’ve been a bit better in my opinion, I do like the service but there are times when you get good items through the sneak peeks and then two of the items that don’t get shown as a random item, is kind of meh or surprised by it. I will start with Ipsy!

Ipsy: This month’s theme was “Summer Lovin’” and it does fit with July due to how it’s the 4th of July and we’re still having a nice summer before school starts for anyone still in school and knowing with next month’s bag, it would probably deal with a schooltime theme again, can’t wait for what that brings since I didn’t start getting my bags until last August! Back to this month’s bag, this month I did give one item to my mom due to what it is used for, let’s see what I got!

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics 2-in-1 Eyeliner and Shadow Pencil: This was a product that I was surprised to get and was pretty intrigued on getting. At first in the first sneak peek, a bronzer was involved along with this, a lipstick I believe and a blush and then this and glad that I didn’t get the bronzer! Whew! Dodged a bullet right there! This is also an item that Vivi wished she got as well because it’s not only a liner pencil but a shadow one as well. When I saw this, I tried seeing what color choices that Ipsters were getting and it didn’t say anywhere until I got it and was told that I got a golden brown/bronze shade. I wouldn’t use this is a shadow since the tip is pretty much a sharp one and I rather use it as a liner anyways. I think this will go good with the Balm Nude Dude shadow I got two months ago. To Jelly Pong Pong, should put shade names on your products, that is the only thing I don’t like is not knowing what name it is to the product.

Teeez Cosmetics Read My Lips Lipstick: Yay! Another lip product in my Ipsy and that is the Read My Lips Lipstick by Teeez Cosmetics! I think I heard of these guys through Ipsy since they appear in this subscription a lot it seems and glad to try them out. The color that everyone got in this product is called “Killing Me Softly” which is a matte coral color. It claims on the page that this lipstick is supposed to hydrate with the coconut oil in it and stay on for eight hours. I am going to wear this for the next few days and see how it feels, I did try it on and man it feels like I am not wearing anything at all due to how light it is. I can’t wait to see he well it goes the next few days!

Crown Brush Professional Tweezers: Yay! Another Crown item! I thought it was a brush at first but when I got to the heading with my screen reader, it was tweezers! I was actually glad that I got tweezers in this month’s bag because I do get brushes and do love them but getting tweezers is another bonus in my book. There are times when you do have that hair that is stubborn to pull out and these will help with that because I tried them out. They are square tipped and man they are sharp! Good to do your brows, get your mustache, and a few chin hairs if any like I do! I think some people on Ipsy Trades were bummed about getting these but I am the only one to say, I am loving these and I hope to get more in the future since they will help when I go off to conventions and I have a unibrow and need to tweez!

Jor’el Parker Clasico Perfume: I was afraid of this product at first until clicked on it and found it was a perfume! Gotta love suspense! Still, good to get another perfume in Ipsy since the last one I got was the No. 1 Perfume Oil a few months back but it was so tiny that it ran out so fast! This on the other hand, it is the same size as my Harvey Prince ones that I got from Ipsy and BoxyCharm in the past. This is a very exoticly sweet smelling perfume that includes Indian Tuber Rose, Turkish Syclamen, and Spanish Mandarin. I smelled this and man it has all three! It has a nice citrus with a hint of the floral and a little spice! You wouldn’t believe that this wouldn’t be found at a Dillard’s perfume counter when you smell this! I did see an Ipster get this on YouTube and they thought it smelled like old lady’s smell but this, to me, kind of feels like you went somewhere in the Caribbean but didn’t leave your room at the same time! I give props to Ipsy including this because I want to get a full-size of this like my Harvey Prince perfume, the Hello one btw!

Pur~Lis Brightening Serum: Alas, my final item and that is the brightening serum by none other Pur~Lis! I gave this to my mom because this is something that is not for my young skin, why is that? It’s for people with age spots and I don’t have them due to my age! I am sorry, but I am not getting into the anti-aging makeup because I don’t need it at this point in time. I may sound like I am ranting a little, need to say it now that this is not a need and I shouldn’t be getting it in my bags. I am glad that it will be used by my mom because she needs it more than I do. When I hit her age, that will be when I will use this stuff but not right now!

That is it for Ipsy! Really good bag this month! Let’s see what Boxy brought me!

BoxyCharm: I am not sure if I can call it another Month of Meh since the products are good but some of them could’ve been a bit better in my opinion.

Flow Mascara: Oh man, when I found out that the first sneak peek was this, I really jumped for joy! I love using mascara and getting some that are higherend in boxes like these make it better because not everyone can afford an Urban Decay one or a Too Faced one! Hell, next month with my birthday, glad will be getting another CK One freebie coupon from Ulta. I was surprised with this one the most! Flow is a company from the UK and they are starting to bring their line to the United States starting the end of this month. This mascara is normally 19 Pounds in UK currency while here…when it is brought over…will be…$35. I know right? This mascara will be costing the same as the price of both of my Meg and Amy statues from Burst Angel, which the each of them were $35 when I found them both at AFO back in 2010 and 2011. This really paid the entire box already because this is something I won’t be purchasing on a regular basis due to how much it costs and hoping it is a good mascara for the price! I am so glad I got this in my box this month and hoping to get more mascaras in the future instead of paying for what they cost, especially this one! I will test it out to see how it goes!

Gorge Cosmetics Conditioning Spray: Yay, hair product! I love receiving these more than getting a bronzer I don’t use or brow powederd so on. Reason being is that my hair has been drying a bit due to how I have been getting dandruff scabs on my scalp and have to use Selsun Blue for it. I do use the R&B and Shine So Bright by Lush, which I got more of recently, then the Cool Way Oil from April or May’s box, and then the Garnier Sleek and Shine Frizzy Hair oil, this one is a nice add on! Since Selsun Blue doesn’t have conditioners, which I wish they did, this is a nice way of replacing that missing element. I did try it out and my hair feels better, but what I didn’t know, I need to use my hands to spread it out through my hair. Whoops! Always next time! I find it funny that this was also available in the Fab Fit Fun Summer box for this year and glad to find it in BoxyCharm!

Versanti Blush Brush: Another brush! Oooohh! I know I got off my brush kick from last month and glad to see that this time it’s one for blush! This is a nylon brush that helps blends bblush in for that natural look. I never heard of Versanti but glad to get their product in my box. Wish they didn’t say apples of your cheeks for blush application. This one is $29 and glad to get it in the box.

Your Minerals Setting Powder: This is something I was surprised to get and wished that it could’ve come in a previous month’s box. I know around this time pores tend to be very annoying due to how much oil we produce. I do have pores I admit, I use a strip for it, not sure if I will use this product since it is transparent and it’s not my color. Don’t know if I should give it away or not since I already use the Almay Clear Complexion Powder and with mineral powders, don’t know how well it will react to my skin since I did use a setting powder by Furgy in Wet N Wild and that broke me out. As said, not my color since it’s medium and I have a lighter to medium skin tone.

Ofra Universal Brow Pencil: Another item by Ofra Cosmetics and not sure I will use either since I use my ELF Essentials Brow and Lash gel. It is the Universal Brow Pencil! I understand that a lot of people love to use brow pencils and I just prefer the gel I use on a regular basis for job interviews. This would’ve been great in a past box as well like in January since that would’ve fit better. I like Ofra’s stuff and wished it was something else rather than this. I wonder if other Charmers got a different item since BoxyCharm does switch items fordifferent boxes.

Wellthat is it for this month! I had mixed tthoughts about Boxy but did like the mascara and the conditioning spray the most! I did like my Ipsy a lot except for the serum, which kjnowing my mom will be trying out. All in all, Boxy should’ve been better with items and hoping August is better since there are hit and misses with this one due to not having that handy quiz to select products. Ipsy, on the other hand, had really good items this month! Knowing that Ipsters will be groaning towards August since last August brought items that were a bit meh and was happy to try, I was sad that my Lord and Berry pencil is gone along with my Perversion Mascara, I wonder what this year’s August bag will bring me! Plus, it is my birth month yet again!

What is next? Waiting on news if Nerdy Shique Universe will be doing AFO 16! They only had the form for one day, which I wish they didn’t, but the guest list is pulling me towards it due to Todd Habercorn, Eric Stuart, even Dante Basco is returning to Orlando for this convention, and of course, Reuben Langdon! And hoping that we do get press that we will bring you an interview with a former power ranger! Just cross your fingers! I really want to do press this year!

So, that is it, til next time!

Ipsy and BoxyCharm Time: June 2015!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! What time is it!? It’s Ipsy and Boxy Time! Today I finally got my paws on my Ipsy bag and BOxyCharm for June. What was weird though is that they were supposed to be in my mail box yesterday but the mail service person didn’t put it in my box, well the BoxyCharm since it did say “Out for Delivery” and the Ipsy stuff didn’t show up witht that either until today. Okay, when the ETA says something, it should be delivered on the date because I tend to get the stuff on the date that it’s expected to show up or earlier. Anyuway! Let’s see what I got!

Ipsy

This month’s Ipsy had a pretty interesting bag due to the theme “Swim Into Ipsy.” Some people in videos didn’t like it due to how plain it looked and how the material was like a swimsuit. I like the feeling of it and it reminds me of the same material of Gondras’ swim trunks with the black material and the letters are bubbly! I like it and it is very nice. Plus, it is the color of most swimsuits, which is black, heck even a good portion of my swimsuit now is black and not complaining. Not only liking the bag, the items this month were better and after seeing some videos I feel like I got the better bag yet again! How so?

Aurora Gel Polish in Four Alarm Fire! Finally a nail polish in my bag after months of not getting one! This month Ipsters get one out of a few different companies like Formula X, this company, Aurora, and a few others. I got the Aurora one and I got the color Five Alarm Fire! This is a gel polish and glad that they give these out since gel polishes and manicures are popular in the summer time and this would look nice on my nails. I bet it’s red or orange or redish orange. Glad to get this! I heard Formula X is a good company since Sephora does sell it and it’ expensive! Wouldn’t mind getting that one but this one seems to be good. Also there was an eyeliner by this brand but didn’t get it. I do have tons of eyeliners anyways!

SmashBox Cosmetics Foundation Primer! When I first saw my Glam Room I was skeptical when I found out that I was getting the SmashBox foundation primer and I was trying out the Rimmel Stay Matte one since so many people like that one a lot. I took a look to see if this was good for my skin type and made me happy to find out that it is! This primer is a hot item and I heard good things about this brand too and know that Ulta carries it as well. I almost got the starter kit when it was the 21 Days of Beauty but backed out because was afraid that some of the items would break me out. I am going to try this product out to see how it handles because I have been going for cheaper primers than my fave Ulta one and this one isn’t cheap full-size I know but it gives me something to try out from SmashBox! As you all know, loving to try new brands I don’t try out before.
Glamier Concelaer Brush! Yay! Got another brush in Ipsy! I have been a bit brush crazy lately, heck even got three sets this month, two from Amazon and one from Ipsy and that was the Crown Pro 504 set. I was so happy to find out that I was getting a concealer brush by a company called Glamier. I never heard of this brand like Luxi and Crown before I joined Ipsy and glad I did know about them since I did get a Crown brush a few months ago, a Luxi one so far, and now this brand. It feels soft and lightweight! I know this is pretty highend for a brand and hoping that Ipsy Me does have a deal with these guys cuz I am curious as a kitten when it comes to brushes now!
LaVanilla Labs Pure Vanilla Body Butter! Making me happier and happier with each product and glad to get another body butter in my bag! I got one by a company this time around called LaVanilla Laboratories and they are known for using vanilla in their products. I remembered how one of my fave subscriptions use their deodorant time-to-time it’s pretty up there, knowing that this may be too. To me this doesn’t smell like vanilla, it kind of reminds me of flowers with vanilla mixed. I will be using this on my knees and elbows since those dry out like crazy on me. Ipsy, you need to send me more samples of Body Butters, I love them!
Trestique Mini Shadow Pencil in Pink Pearl! My final item of June is the mini shadow pencil by Trestique! I think everyone has gotten this in their bags since I have watched videos where they all got it! There were many different colors that were sent because of how a lot of people got this thing, I did see a lot of people got the gold one the most since it is so neutral. The one I got is the pink one called Pink Pearl! Ipsy described it as a pink with a pearl finish and someone who got this in a video described it as a champagne pink. I will see how it goes because I never tried a shadow stick from anybody before, I know Rimmel has some good ones but I am glad I get to try something in a subscription bag to see how I feel.

BoxyCharm!

Okay, this month’s box was pretty much good and better than last month’s box. I called last month for both the Month of Meh! This one seemed to be better despite one item which I gave to my mom. Let’s see what I got!

Esslr Chlorpyll Mask! I gave this to my mom because I read how it was described which this is a mask made with plant extracts, seaweed extracts, and other minerals to help firm the skin and reduce fine lines. If you seen my interview videos and the pictures from last year’s interviews with the voice actors, you know or seen that I don’t look my age, which I am turning 30 in August! I hear from so many YouTubers that they started the anti-aging thing around their mid-twenties but I didn’t because I slowly evolved in make up until I only stopped at highlighting, which I don’t wear brozers nor lashes! As said, I don’t have lines, just dark circles that I cover with my CoverGirl invisible lift concealer and the usual acne spots and scars, rest of everything is just my usual clear complexion items, other than that I don’t rely on anti-aging make up at this stage in life so I gave it to my mom since she does have some lines due to her age. I did ask if she wanted it and she took it up. I know it will help her skin in the end.
Bella Pierre Kabuki Brush! Another item that all Charmers got was the kabuki brush by Bella Pierre. This is the third Item I believe that I got from these guys since I subscribed and it is a brush. I do like the feeling but it seems not as fluffy as the E. L. F. one I use to help get my foundation on but it does feel soft in the end. This is not helping the brush cravings because when I heard this I was uber happy to get another brush from Boxy. I am using the Mistura retretractable one from December for my powder and I am using the dual fiber crease brush time to time from February. I hope I get more brushes like this because I don’t have to pay for the highend prices like this by only receiving them this way!
Doucce Click Click Lipstick in Peach! This is the most interesting lipstick I ever received. It looks like a tube but you click the lipstick in and out like a pen, once clicked out you remove it naturally. There was no color name on this but it is a peach color. This was one of the three items that Charmers received among Sneak Peek 3, if you were lucky to get all three then good for you, but the other two items that would also be a possible receiving was a Cargo shadow single and an Oscar Blandi hair serum. I was glad not to get the Oscar Blandi serum because the hairspray I received in March or was it April, it smelled AWFUL! I wouldn’t want to imagine how the serum smells because I wouldn’t want it in my hair if it does smell bad. The Cargo shadow I would’ve love to try out since I did like the lip gloss I got in Ipsy from that company, escept it ran out too fast for a sample. At least I got the lipstick because I do tend to like trying out new lip products, especially higher end ones. Plus, perfect color for the summer since I kind of branched into peachy nudes due to the NYX Butter Glosses.
The Beauty’Crop Highlighter! Yay! Another highlighter in a beauty box! I was sad not to get the last highlighter that came in Ipsy but was happy to get the Blush stripes from Ofra in this box and now another highlighting cream! There are times when I don’t like using the creams but it is sometimes good to have an easy control when applying and easy blending. I have to be careful how I squeeze this like my NYX Gleam and the one I got in Ipsy from a company I forgot on the top of my head. I can’t wait to try this out since I never heard of the company before. Plus, the card says it’s oil-free which makes it better and has vitamins and antioxidants to help nourish the skin while adding a nice, healthy glow to it. Hae to see how it goes!
NCLA Nail Lacquer in Nectar! Anotherr NCLA item in my box! I guess I don’t feel bad for not getting the Cargo shadow since I do love getting nail polishes and this is a highend brand that comes in BoxyCharm and I do still have my Heart Attack polish from February and this time it is a summery color. It is called Nectar and it’s a peachy color! I don’t normally wear peach colors on my nails but it’s good to branch out a little. I still have the polish from last month waiting to be worn and can’t wait to see how this will look! Hey, maybe I could put Heart Attack on top of it, maybe it would look nice!

Well, that is it for this month’s items! I think this was better than last month’s items because they were Meh! This month on the other hand was better because I got two brushes, get to try out another new lipstick, a highlighter, and two nail polishes! Plus the bag for Ipsy was really cute! Oh forgot to mention, I did get to trade in my points again from Ipsy for a Star Looks lip gloss and that made me happy as well to get it in my bag! I hope next month would be better like this month! Let’s see what happens next!

What is next up? Well, if I get around to it, will be doing a post about that permanent make up tattoos have been showing up more and how it can be dangerous! Stay tuned!

BoxyCharm and Ipsy May 2015

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I am working on the Pokemon Cosplay post but in the meantime, guess what? What time is it? It’s BoxyCharm and Ipsy Time! I just received these this past week! Well, Ipsy was supposed to arrive Wednesday but it came Thursday, which the shipping was weird like with my Juice Beauty lip gloss set I bought from them and had to wait til Tuesday. BoxyCharm, on the other hand, arrived today which I didn’t get the tracking e-mail til Thursday. I hate it when tracking goes crazy! So, to me both of these this month were…meh! Why? The items were okay and somewhat not my cup of tea, even gave one thing to my mom since she would use it more than I do, let’s see what I got!

Ipsy: This month’s theme was Jetsetter which deals with how everyone will be traveling and how fashion is going up and changing, especially with spring and summer. Plus, this month you got one item that a stylist really likes and mine came with something that Chris and Dominique liked, I think it was the Tart item, don’t know since I couldn’t see the image. And on top of that, you got one out of three designs this month for the bag. I remembered there was a mini clutch and I got a regular Ipsy bag. Which is okay, but would’ve loved the clutch! Now onto what I got!

Brioggio Spray In Conditioner: I was actually happy about this since I did get the hair mask by Brioggio but that was way before I got my highlights and gave it to my mom since she colors her hair more than I do. This on the other hand I can use on my hair since it is so frizzy, especially when summer comes around! I did start using it to try it out and like the feel and smell of it. I hope to get more hair items like this since I tend to love trying new items for hair!

Urban Decay Glide On Lip Pencil + Lip Gloss Sampler: Okay, a two in one with Urban Decay. Ipsters got this, well depending on who got it and that was the glide on lip pencil with tiny samples of the new Revolution Lip Gloss. There was an Ipsy Me offer for it but didn’t want to pay the $22 but did get a dupe for it from Mac, which is funnier since it was the same day as learning about the new Urban Decay gloss. Some of the Ipsters on the Ipsy Trades page did say this is a repeat but I never seen it anywhere even if I started joining last year, I do know they did do the liner last April. I am glad to get another Urban Decay product since I only buy their items if they are on sale or at least the Naked Basics pallets. And of course, do have the Perversion samples and love that mascara! This is interesting since it looks like the pencil is deluxe size or at least the same size as the City Colors lip pencil I got with the make up set last year. Wait, it’s full size since it’s longer than the City Colors one. I did hear that some people got this and it’s in the color Ozone and it’s clear. I don’t mind if it’s clear because it would go nice with anything without mismatching the lip colors. The lip glosses are little foil packets, I wish they were actual tubes instead because they would fit better in the little cardboard packet. Way to go Ipsy!

Clorane Eye Patches: Something I didn’t want but gave to my mom and that they are the Soothing Eye Patches for tired eyes. I don’t have any tired eyes or eye bags since I’m still young and do get enough sleep. Some YouTubers do start the anti-againg ritual in their 20’s but there are times that it’s too early and plus if you seen my pics in all my cosplays, I don’t look my age! I look more like a 15 year-old! I do wear under eye concealer to camoflague some dark circles but I won’t wear the patches until I get older! So glad my mom took them.

IT Cosmetics CC Cream: I wasn’t exp[ecting this and thought this was a fave by Chris and Dominique since I tend to hear how she sometimes use IT Cosmetics and know that it’s a great company but don’t buy their items for myself. I did get an under eye concealer months ago but gave it to my mom since my eyes don’t need it with the anti-aging properties it gives. This one…was on the fence! I hear good things about BB and CC creams and the only turn off is the SPF part. I live in Florida and know how the sun is damaging on the skin and unfortunately my skin is sensitive to SPF products, well when it comes in moisturizers at least. I did wear this when I went to Miami yesterday due to how bad the sun can get and I didn’t want to wear a lot of make up since they would put eye drops in my eyes and would mess up any liner or mascara or shadow! I only took this and my Mullein and Sparrow lip tint. It was pretty easy to apply despite not having a primer. I was worried that my skin would break out but didn’t so far, I will be using this more and if it does, well throw it out.

Scone Retractable Eye Liner: I was happy to find out that I was getting another eyeliner in my bag. This one is by a company called Scone and heard about them through Ipsy of course! I never got to try it since I never got it before and glad to receive it! Everyone who got it was getting it in Navy. I do have blue eyeliners and try to use the pencils up but at least got one in blue. Better than black since I still have a ton of!

That was Ipsy! As said, was a meh month! I am hoping that June brings something better and exciting.

BoxyCharm: Now to BoxyCharm! Like January and February, this box was okay! Not the biggest one in my opinion! I thought April and March were better and I did like some of the items, well three of them. This month’s theme is Bold and Beautiful which according to the card, should step out of the comfort zone except two items were items I won’t be using!

Bodyography Eye Brow Trio and Eye brow and Lash Brush: Putting these together since they go together this month due to being by the same company! I am only going to use the brush in my professional and cosplay make up kit due to how I love using brow brushes. One side of the brush is meant for lashes and look like a mascara wand, which is handy! The other, kind of looks like a regular brushg but it’s for brows. I take it this is meant for the brow powders but won’t use them, I may use it to brush the brow gel I use a lot more easily. While the brow trio, seeing if I can give it away since no one wants it on the Ipsy Trades page when I asked about swapping it. This features three powders for dark, medium, and light toned brows which pretty much, according to the card, best for any hair color.

Model Co. Bronzing Powder With Shimmer: The other product I won’t be using and that is the bronzing powder with shimmer by Model Co. I heard of Model Co. mostly through Ipsy and got the blushes they gave away, one that came in the bag and the other I wapped for. As you know, I am not into use bronzers just blushes. I don’t get the appeal of them like self-tanning! I am also giving this away to a friend and seeing if her sister uses the eye brow products.

Lauren B. Nail Polish in In Juicing: Yet another nail polish for this box and was glad to get it! Laren B. Beauty is line I heard through BoxyCharm and I think Birchbox also gives them out and this is a high end line which I am glad to get in BoxyCharm this month! I got it in the color InJuicing which is a light green color. Others got the peachy shade and glad to get this color even more since I do tend to wear green polishes! Can’t wait to see how it looks!

The Lip Bar Lipstick in Kiss Me: You remembered how I mentioned The Lip Bar in my LimeCrime Controversy post and well…here they are! It was the lip product being given to all Charmers this month and I was really happy, which made me reach out to them! As you know, these girls make the bold colors and the crazy colors like blue and green as examples, and of course the regular nudes! They were also featured on Shark Tank which is even bolder, but was kind of sad that they weren’t given the endorsement. I was glad to get a lipstick in my box and was very intrigued about the packaging which looks like a stencil almost! It is very unizue and I would say, for a blind person like me, this is a package I love! I mean, with the curvature and the stencil outlinings, this would be easy for me to find in my entire drawer if I were to use this, which I got the color Kiss Me, which is a hot pink color! I wish a lot of make up brands do packaging like this since it is pretty nice to feel, especially for a braille user like me and yeah it does come with a nice pouch, but feeling for the tube would be the better thing! I did try it on and oh man…it is sooooooo lightweight! It doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything on your lips! I know it costs a bit more than MAC but two dollars less than Urban Decay and these were made by hand! The Lip Bar, if you’re reading this! I am loving your product so far and start sending me products! I really want to support you guys if it means I have to save up for your stuff and join your Martini Bar Membership! And if you guys want to check them out: http://www.thelipbar.com

Well, that is it! As said before, not that great of a month! I found the past few months better for both. I do like the Urban Decay lip pencil, loving the spray conditioner from Brioggio, definitely use the eyeliner, the eyebrow brush, the Lip Bar lipstick, and nail polish! I will say I am still trying out the CC cream by IT since so far not having any adverse effects, so far so good. I am hoping June brings something good since I am waiting to see if Boxy does get the Revealed 3 in the future.

I will be finishing my Pokemon Cosplay post before the weekend, if not, will try to get it up before I do all my Omni coverage which who am I interviewing this year?

Mike McFarland, which I will be asking about his work on Attack On Titan, Bryce Pappenbrook, Josh Grell, Trina Nishmura, and Lauren Landa about their voice roles in the anime and other roles they’ve done, and finally Ricki aka Riddle from Heroes of Cosplay about her cosplay experiences! Stay tuned for all of that!

BoxyCharm and Ipsy: April 2015!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! What time is it!? It’s Subscription Time! I finally received BoxyCharm in the mail today and already got Ipsy, so let’s get into it!

Ipsy: Well, my Ipsy arrived last Friday and it came early! It was supposed to arrive last Saturday but I’m happy that it came a day early. I didn’t want to try the products but used some with my make up today since one product apparently had a bit of a bad batch. Let’s see what I got!

The theme is Beautifully Bohemian and the bag is very nice and fitting! It looks like it was made out of a wicker material and then the cloth inside and it fits with the theme! The theme fits for this time of year as well since we’re tanning and our make up looks are changing to more of a summery look, why not start it off with a Bohemian look!?

Hikari Blush in Tango! First item in my bag is a blush by Hikari cosmetics! I tried this company before and this is my third item by them, I traded for the Caboret lipstick and got the retractable eyeliner by them and now the blush! I was really interested in this when I found out that this was coming in my bag. It’s a full size product and very easy to apply since it went on smoothly. It is also easy to blend even with a highlight on top, which I used my new NYX Mosaic highlighter on top. Way to go Ipsy with this! I hope to get more Hikari items in future bags since this is becoming a fave make up brand.

Lather Ultra Soft Face Lotion! Another sensitive skin friendly product and that is a moisturizer made by a company called Lather. I did mention in all my posts and in my Subscription Rant, I like to see items from products I never heard of and that includes for sensitive skin owners like me. With the grapeseed oils it contains, this is supposed to be gentle on my skin and glad to check it out after I finish a container of Celestial, as a break in between containers since I got a new container of it in the mail this week.

The Balm Nude Dude Eye Shadow Single in Flirt! Next item is something that everyone got and it’s by the Balm Cosmetics and that is the Nude Dude Eye Shadow Single! You already can guess by the name that it is a nude eye shadow and I’m okay with it! There were two colors that people get and that is either Flort or Fit and I got Flirt, which is a golden color. I tried it on today to get a feel for it since I heard good things about the Balm before through YouTubers who shop at Sephora a lot. I like how it went on over shadow primer pretty easily, but one thing was kind of hard was the size it came as, which is a tiny book with a tiny square and it was hard to fit my entire brush in. I was able to get it on pretty well and blend it easily. Not bad for a new item and glad to get this color.

Micah Beauty Eye Shadow Primer! I got a beauty staple this month instead of a scent and found it okay! I do love perfume but getting this was a greater bonus and that is the eye shadow primer by Micah Beauty. I did trade for an eye shadow and happy to try this out. Primers are a big must have especially when the weather gets hotter in certain areas and this is a nice staple to put in, which I wish more like these would appear. I did try this out with the Nude Dude Shadow and it was hard to apply because the pot was hard for me to dip my finger in. I had easier times with my City Color Cosmetics primer because the pot is not so deep but this sample is pretty deep. I think I may have to use a brush with this primer when I get to it. Also, if anyone has gotten this and got an e-mail, apparently some Ipstrs saw this product getting a weird greenish black tinge to it and asked Ipsy about it. The thing is it’s due to how the bubbles pop up after it cooled and of course it does get inspected very well according to Micah. I didn’t have this problem since I had my mom check it to see if it did, mine is fine!

Mullein and Sparrow Lip and Cheek Tint Mini! I am happy and sort of sad about this since Ipsy this month gave out a Too Faced Melted Lipstick in some bags, I was like I”What the heck?” At the same time when I saw my sneak peek I was happy that I was getting this afterwards since I did try a product by Mullein and Sparrow and that was their clay mask from February’s Boxy. I got the mini lip tint this time and it is pretty good size than a small one. To me it reminds me of the size of the Lush lip tints and the same packaging and it smells like Double Choc in my opinion with a hint of orange. I will have to use this at some point in time. I will get another clay mask, I know they have an Ipsy Me with three products, as in the mask, the steam, and moisturizer but I want the mask since I prefer that the most.

BoxyCharm: This month’s BoxyCharm had awesome stuff! They only revealed two items and then we get surprised later. I did trade in some Charms, which we should start with that.

Trina Tarantino Eyeliner in Black! I heard Trina Tarantino being given in this subscription before and was glad that this was a price for charms. I was going to save my charms for other things but then was a curious little kitty and decided to go for this. I have a lot of black liners but this is one thing I decided to trade it in for this. The lead does feel soft and can’t wait to try it out on my eyes.

Coastal Sense Revealed 2 Pallet! For the first part of the Boxy Bloom box, which is the theme, it’s something that they decided to give in for this month’s box! Back in December they gave out the Coastal Sense Revealed pallet and of course it was a nice pallet to get. This month they give out the second one! Like the first one being comparable to the Urban Decay Naked 1 pallet, this one is more of a mix between the Naked 2 and 3 which features more cooler tones and has rosy colors. I liked the first and after hearing about how well this one is to the first, I will like this one too. I have a feeling the third one will be given out later on this year since it is the newest one and it is more a multi-colored one. Let’s see what happens!

Ofra Illuminating Blush Stripes! Another Ofra item for this month and was revealed in sneak peeks and that is by Ofra. There were some Charmers who would be getting what I got and that is the Illuminating Blush Stripes and other people got the highlighting powder. I didn’t care what I got since I am getting into highlighting powders and glad to get this one either way! It has four different tripes of glittery blush and can be used as a highlighter for the cheak bones or an eye shadow according to the card. I may just use it as a highlighter and see how it goes!

Vincent Longgo Dual End Eyeliner! Next is something I got over the Model Co. lip gloss and that is the Vincent Longo Dual Ended Eyelinber pencil. I have I heard some Charmers received this and I was hoping for the lip gloss but then found it in my box this morning. I like the idea of dual ended eyeliners since it gives you a choice of color and this pencil comes which Imy line ended up being Satin, a blue color on one end, and Plum, you already know a light purple, on the other! Two of my fave liner colors! I may have to put puffy paint on either end to tell which one is which. Nice way of trying a new item out with two of my fave colors on both ends!

Cool Way Smoothing Lotion! Yay! Another Cool Way item and it is good for frizzy hair! It is full size I believe. This is good to put on wet or dry hair and pretty much is used for smoothing out hair and keep it from being dry. I can’t wait to try. Speaking of Cool Way, Charmers did get a special coupon to Cool Way and comes with a brush. Not sure if I will use it.

Harvey Prince Signature! Finally, I got another Harvey Prince scent! Yay! I love the Hello scent and I am at the halfway point in that bottle and was happy to hear that they were doing random boxes with either Signature or Hello. I was happy to get Signature since it gave me a new one to smell. I didn’t mind another bottle of Hello since that is running low but happy either way! This scent reminds me of Jessica Simpson Signature but a little stronger and spicier in a sense. I can’t wait to try this out and hoping that more of Harvey Prince comes in Boxy and probably Ipsy since I like this company now.

Well, both sides were pretty good this month! I was kind of bummed that I didn’t receive the Too Faced lipstick but I did cheer up that it was a Mullein and Sparrow item instead. The perfume smells nice and will pop that into my bag and of course the Coastal Sense pallet and Nude Dude shadow were a plus. May will be a new month for new products and can’t wait what it holds!

What is next for Nerdy Shique Universe? Well, another bi-monthly faves, Pokemon transmedia, will also review Y since I am almost done with it. Let’s see…cosplay to come and more! Oh yeah if you’re wondering, we didn’t get media for Earth Day Birthday buuuuuuttt we got tickets to it and getting to see Rise Against, Soul Switch, Sevendust, and others! Yay! So, stay tuned!

Beauty Rant: Box Subscriptions!

Hello shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Even though it is time for Ipsy and BoxyCharm since I just got my Ipsy bag for April but waiting on my BoxyCharm box which is supposed to be here this Friday, but with Florida shipping it is pretty much on the Road Runner express due to it being from Florida. So, in the meantime…it’s a rant!

I ranted about cosplay and of course fan fiction with the problem I went through with Fairy Tails a few months back but this time it deals with box subscriptions, especially in the beauty realm! I don’t want to take one huge paragraph in my next post in what I got I decided to make it a separate post. As you know I am part of both BoxyCharm and Ipsy and get them both each month and I feel as though that I do pay for what I get, as in $10 for Ipsy and the $22, since I live in Florida it gets taxed, for BoxyCharm and do get what I get in each box but with other subscribers there are the ones that do complain about what they get and it’s been irritating for the past few months I’ve been with these guys, especially with Ipsy! Even the complaints started when the theme for April was revealed for Ipsy, which is even incredible and I seen complaints about the people who complain about it. Yeah, it is sad. Let’s continue!

The Appeal: The appeal of both which caught me to subscribe in the first place are different. Yeah, I heard about both through YouTubers I subscribe to but the stories are different. The prices are different for reasons on their own. First Ipsy, which was started back in 2011 and heard of it through the girls of Eleventh Gorgeous with their Ipsy vs. Birchbox videos which are now up against Beauty Box 5 and what really got me to subscribe with the idea of getting samples from different make up companies I heard of and seen in Ulta and Sephora or none I heard of due to being online only and they come in a make up bag for every month! I liked the idea because I always like to switch up my make up bags and I do use them for cosplay make up kits and now have a make up kit for interviews so I won’t get confused. I also got turned to it due to NYX being a company in these bags and you know me, I am a NYX lover, plus itt gave me an open mind in trying new things along the way with samples from other companies. While Boxy, on the other hand, despite it being $10 more and taxed here, it gives me more of a higher end look. Ipsy does dabble in higher end make up yes, but Boxy does it more with brands like Ofra, Model Co., Beauty for Real, and more. It also gives me full size and deluxe sizes in other items to try out and of course I don’t have to pay the high end prices for most products along the way with this box. I seen so many videos with what everyone got and had to try it out for myself with what is included each month. On top of that, what is a greater appeal is that since you get sample sizes sometimes, they do last for a long time! Usually samples run out depending on what it is while others last longer than a month and it gives you enough time to try them out. On top of this, you can trade items if you don’t like them with other people. I will mention that next! Plus, what is great, especially with Ipsy that got me into them and don’t tend to use them and that is the coupon codes that come with each product. Make up does get pricey and I know from my experience in going into Mac and waiting on prices go down on certain Urban Decay items, prices do rack up and it is good to get discounts! Even the Ipsy Me offers where you can get the item you didn’t receive in your bag also has discounted items for people to buy, for instance I got the Pacifica Solar Pallet, which has the Coconut Mineral Shadows from January, for $20. BoxyCharm does have coupon codes that they send in e-mails for people to get, even some of them are credit codes, like with Previse as an example, I think you can find them on the products, but mostly e-mail codes get to you and Ipsy does the same at the end of the month in case you can’t find them on the items. Now, let’s see what are the complaints  besides the appeal!

Complaints: Mostly I see the complaints on Ipsy but with Boxy I only see complaints with not getting the box or not getting sneak peeks, which I am guilty of doing that, which I found out that they only reveal two to three items a month and send the box so everyone can be surprised. Okay, that’s brilliant! I do understand the whole not receiving boxes and bags since there are times stuff does get taken in the mail or gets lost, which I had that happen with packages from different parts of the US and overseas through EBay, here is the thing, boxes and bags get replaced by the company. As in, they tend to send replacements of the entire thing, which I seen a lot through Ipsy, or the individual item, which I only had that once thus far. The only complaint I have with BoxyCharm’s replacement policy is the picture thing, due to being blind and not being around sighted people all the time due to different schedules I can’t take a pic on my own. I admit I traded the item before it got replaced. I did apologize to the person who got it in the end. I do notice how Ipsy does have new envelopes because there are times when items do go missing and these newer envelopes prevent that and are getting better by putting liquids in little ziplock bagies to send to people and I saw that in one of my items this time around, which is a nice step up.

Now onto the most known complaint and that is “I didn’t get what I want!”  This is something is expressed always on the boards on the Ipsy site and on the Facebook and man it’s annoying! Especially when they point out about how they didn’t mark it on the quistionaire! Let me say these points!

  1. The survey that gets taken at the beginning along with the reviews ARE GUIDELINES! As in they use it as way of seeing who you are and what is your style and do their best in matching that with items you get in the bag. Even with the reviews at the end it asks to help cater the future bags in if you like it or not with products and shades, but again they are just guidelines and you don’t not get the item you hate or you do in future bags. They do say that.
  2. They don’t guarantee what you get is what you marked! I learned this after knowing why I’m not getting nail polish much anymore, which I only got it once and that is whatever you marked on the quiz is not a full guarantee is what you’re going to get in every bag and on top of that…
  3. YOU CANNOT OPT OUT OF SAMPLES! Why the caps? Well, this is why, every month Ipsy gets a set of products from different brands and it says when you first register that with signing up that you can’t opt out of them, which is what you get is what you’re going to get that month! I do admit I get disappointed sometimes but I deal and still keep an open mind and willing to try out some things because I understand what they do is what they do! There are solutions with these products..

Solutions to not getting what you expected:

  1. Swap items! Everyone on every board stresses this and that is that you can swap the items that you don’t like and didn’t wanted for something you may want or wanted. I did this in the past with some Ipsy items for other items I didn’t get and that included two skin care items I couldn’t use to sensitive skin for other Ipsy items and still have and of course did swap two of my Boxy items that I diwouldn’t use, which were lashes and the Mistura C to P concealer, for other Ipsy items. Another good thing is that there are Facebook pages for Ipsters and Charmers to trade with each other and I am a part of the Ipsy one but there are times where they can be picky in my opinion, watch out for that.
  2. Ipsy Me Offers! There are times where if you don’t get something from a brand you wanted, such as nail polish by a brand that was given that month or the previous month for example, Ipsy does have their offers thing where they do sell the brands they tend to give out at lower prices than the list price and normally as bundles. I do love these things because I may not get the products they offer that I wanted at first place but they do sell them later. For instance, I just got the Bonita Beauty Lips and Tips set since they were giving Bonita Beauty nail polishes this month and with my luck my bag didn’t get one but I did like the set, which came with two lip glosses and two nail polishes for $8 and glad to get that. That was not the only offer I got, I did get the Rob Sheppy pallet from Tini Beauty, which everyone got the Pearl Fizz shadow in February, the Pacifica Solar Pallet, which featured a lot more items than the shadows, and of course the very first Ofra item I ever got and that is the Ofra eye set. BoxyCharm also put up the products from each month to review and for you to buy since there are some things they do give at random which you can click on the item and buy it from the site or see if it’s up for points which makes it greater.
  3. Buy Them In Stores! Like a lot of brands, there are times you can find what you don’t get in stores! Trust me, I had this happen where I want something and didn’t get in my bag, it can be easily found at Ulta or Sephora. For instance, I didn’t get the NYX Hot Pot Eye Shadow they gave out in October’s bag and was able to find it in Ulta! What if the locations don’t have it or the color I wanted? There are times that you can just order it online which makes it easier. Plus, even when you like the item you got you can also pick up its full size counterpart there instead of having it in another bag. In the end, if there something you didn’t get in the bag at first, you can just buy it in stores, so please save some timeline space in case this happens.

Latest Complaint: Neutrals! ::record screech:: I know, SAY WHAT NOW!? The latest complaint I seen right as the bag was announced was about neutrals appearing in every bag and asking for colors! I know a lot of us girls like the colors and the neutrals but we can’t always do the color thing. I do admit I have pallets and make up sets with the colors but I do reach for neutrals due to smoky eyes and of course doing neutrals for workplaces are the best thing. I am not bashing on colors but the thing is that this is a sampling service when it comes to Ipsy and Boxy does a lot of neutral stuff too, you can’t really bash on it. I did mention coupon codes and going to buy the products, if you get a product in a neutral color and try it out first and like the feeling of it, you can just go to the website for the make up company or the store it’s carried at and pick up the colors that are made. Plus, the Ipsy Me Offers do provide the full size of other colors of the company’s other items, such as the City Colors set with the 72 shadows and other things as an example and their Golden Girls pallet was sold later on with another range of colors. As said, don’t knock the product due to color, just try it out and if you like the product, buy it in a different one with the coupon code or go to Ulta or Sephora where it might be sold and pick from the color range that way. If the product is not liked, then swap.

Conclusion: In the end, box subscriptions when it comes to beauty is a sampling service. There are some where someone can pick what they want but with Ipsy and BoxyCharm, I do like the idea of trying out higher end stuff and drugstore stuff I haven’t tried before or explore the rest of the range with items I did try before. I also get to see other things that brands make or even brands that I never tried before. If I don’t get something I can just go and buy it, no big deal, especially in another color. I would say, don’t knock unless you try if it’s something you can use or don’t like it. If not, just swap with others they may have it.

What is next for Nerdy Shique Universe? Well, since I got my Ipsy, I will talk about that with BoxyCharm since I’m waiting on that now! And of course, waiting on news about Earth Day Birthday if I get the media passes, which I am still crossing my fingers on it! Til next time!
