Conventions: Holiday Matsuri 2017 Idol Festival!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It’s time for the final coverage from Holiday Matsuri 2017!

Saturday, December 16, 2016 Idol Festival:

This year introduced a new event to Holiday Matsuri and it is known as the Idol Festival. These are pretty popular in Japan even with how much Vokyloid has been a huge part of that popularity. In Japan, idols go onstage and perform either solo or in a group and here is kind of the same thing where women act as the idols and dance or play instruments along with the music.

We only were there for a few of the acts from the start of it since we were heading to J. Michael Tatum’s panel right after we got some footage. Sorry if the video is not as great since there were a lot of people at this thing. I did like some of the music since I do like J-Pop and still listen to it on my I Heart Radio app even when it pops up on my Favorites radio with Baby Metal, Asian KungFu Generation, and I think I have High & Mighty Color and a bit of Gackt time to time.

I hope you enjoy these videos and the rest of the coverage we have brought you from this past Holiday Matsuri. Now they are gearing up for this year’s and already have some of the forms up. We are definitely going back and hoping to stay at the World Center since that was great too.

Speaking of press, good news is that we now have press passes for Omni Expo 2018 and excited about it! I will be doing the Convention Spotlight either towards the end of this month or early February since the convention is in March again. So, stay tuned everyone!

Conventions: Voice Actors Panel from Holiday Matsuri 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe and time to continue the Holiday Matsuri Coverage!

Saturday, Dec. 16: Voice Actor’s Panel:

So, another Saturday event which happens to be the Voice Actors Panel on that Saturday with Charlotte Chung, J. Michael Tatum, Brandon McInnis, and Fred Tatasciore. We covered this one as our press requirement which I wanted to do their Holiday Panel but it wasn’t on the schedule but it did take place but hey we at least got this one. I know this is so out of order but our Friday stuff is going to be on Google Drive so I can get it onto YouTube as soon as I can with the magic of my Galaxy Tablet! (Yes, trying to navigate that thing!)

Anyways, I did get to ask a question which happened to be the Fave Holiday Moment which I started adding to my interview questions for Holiday Matsuri but due to what took place this year with interviews I did ask some of the interview questions I had for people and ask them during panels. The stories the actors gave were pretty good, even Brandon gave a Fourth of July one which does count as a holiday and it was during the time he was in Japan. You will get to hear that. Gondras did help people with questions to ask while we were in line especially with our fave question, “What was the funniest moment in the booth?” This is the number one question that I always love to ask because I heard stories of funny moments in commentaries and that is how the question came to be and you will also hear those answers to that question and it was pretty funny with Fred. I have a feeling that is one answer he would give if we had that one on one.

Well, that is about it for this post! I hope you enjoy the videos with this panel and stay tuned for the rest! I am not sure if I should post the Idol Festival if that is one of the videos on our SD card because of the music being copyrighted and the footage was not as great.

What is next though? The Bests & Worsts of 2017 and man my fingers are going to hurt with this one with the amount of stuff to talk about! Stay tuned!

Access Tech: Accessibility in Gaming

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe and I am back and will be taking a bit of a break from the Holiday Matsuri coverage, which I will get back to since we have to figure out what videos go up first since we have them recorded on Nerdy Shirts’ phone and camera and my phone with pics from the Runway Contest. Don’t worry, it will be up! Right now I am doing a post that my best friend Stellar Nan thought it would be interesting for me to do with my own take and that is…

Accessibility in Gaming

Disclaimer: This post is based on observations and opinions of the lead writer. Please respect her thoughts and thank you!

I am glad to talk about this topic since it has been a hot one all year especially since MegaCon Orlando this year when Troy Baker announced that he wants to see more accessibility in gaming and I did thank him for it which he did mention to me that he has seen articles of blind people popping up in the gaming world which is true.

The first article I had read before the con was done on a Japanese boy who is blind and beat a rhythm game series on the DS and he wrote to Nintendo to thank them for the series which the company did write back to him in a Braille letter and a printed one for his dad and said “Thank you for playing!” This was amazing to me because the kid did go onto playing the Taiko drums all thanks to playing these games which if you haven’t seen a Taiko show I highly recommend to go to one in your area or find videos on YouTube. Even before this article, Gondras did turn me onto one blind gamer that lives in Canada by the name of Steve Sailor who plays games despite having low vision. He has played many games such as Bio shock, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey and it is very entertaining to see how he roams around and plays the games and reacts to them. I will put a video link in here so you can see what he does.

When it comes to accessibility, it is where different things to be added in order to make playing games more fun for people with disabilities, especially ones with visual disabilities. It’s not easy to play a game for me since I can’t see the screen nor the buttons but I have been sighted before and remembered playing Sonic 2 the most and almost beating the game a couple of times. I even remembered playing Super Mario All Stars on the Super Nintendo and moved onto the Nintendo 64 and the Gameboy Color. Nowadays with my limited sight, I can only really play Pokémon even though I did help unlock people on Super Smash Brothers but it’s mostly Pokémon and I know how it feels to play it since another blind gamer by the name of James Rath goes through the audio cues like I do but sometimes the Pokémon can sound the same in my ears and do need the sighted help time to time. Plus, walking around can also be difficult since I do run into things a lot and need some directional guide. Trust me, playing Y with Lumios City was not an easy feat with how that city is a rotating 3D model when I look at it. Even navigating Mauville in Alpha Sapphire was confusing too with the different doors you go through. I bet you are wondering where I am getting at.

Screen Reader Tech! That’s right, screen reading tech should be developed for the Nintendo system since Sony has developed it to be on their PlayStation 4 for people with visual impairments to be able to play. I am hoping Gondras does get one soon because I want to see this for myself since I have co-opped with him a couple of times in Tales of Xilia 2!

For many years, I have been emailing Nintendo about this since it is not easy being able to see the text and the story is in that text based telling. Trust me, I try to ask Gondras to read the stuff out even during Pokémon Black and besides the story parts, also reading out signs on buildings since I was able to locate things on the maps in the strategy guides and can’t read them anymore. So, the screen reader would help in reading the maps, reading the tutorials too and even read the different menus on the home screen area when selecting the games you want to play, to putting in the text like with how Siri would do on the onscreen keyboard, and many other things, heck even see items ahead of you.

I did get an email from Nintendo once I read the article about the Japanese boy to reach out to them again and they did say they started including the ability to change the colors on the Nintendo Switch which James Rath talked about in a video I will also include about how a blind person would play the Switch. These settings pretty much change the gray scale and reverse the colors on the screen which sounds like something Zoom Text and Magic does where you can make the background different colors and your cursor a different color to help see while typing as an example. That is a really good start for Nintendo because it is now showing they are joining in on the Accessibility Arena due to how many people that are visually impaired want to enjoy their games. James mentioned how he and another blind friend were able to play together especially with Splatoon where they were able to switch the color blind settings to help with that.

It would be nice for Nintendo to expand on the settings to add the screen reader tech since we do live in the era of voiceover on Apple and Samsung’s tablets and phones, heck even Zoom Text has added speech to be like Magic in its own way. I did bring the question about this to Jennifer Hale and Ally Hillis during the Mass Effect panel during Mega since it would be interesting for their take and they said, “Of course! Since we live in the time of inclusion in tech that would be something that should be added.” You can watch those videos in our MegaCon Orlando coverage on here or go to our YouTube Channel for that. I do agree with their points because we do have the audio description and closed captions for the sight and hearing impaired audiences who love to come and see a movie with their family and friends so should have a talk with the companies that develop these devices or talk to Freedom Scientific, the creators of NVDA in Australia, or even Apple and Samsung for help in how to make something like this to work on the Switch and their DS systems since we do have the New DS too to think about. Plus, it will help Nintendo to keep up with Sony since they are getting into the Accessibility game a little more to include more gamers in their market and it would be the same with Nintendo if they keep going forward.

Well, that is my take on the accessibility in gaming since I am a JAWS user, it would be nice to play Pokémon with screen reading support. I did bring it up to someone I used to know and he thought this was a bad idea but now with more blind gamers and now voice actors wanting to see it more, I guess he will be thinking it more differently if he has been to the latest conventions where the actors have talked about it and plus more blind gamers are popping up in the mainstream media even on YouTube. I haven’t mentioned the points that Extra Credits mentioned in one video they did all thanks to someone who told her story but I will also include their video on Accessibility in gaming too. Now I will be crossing my fingers on all my paws to see if more accessible settings go forward. And I also want to thank Steve Sailor for letting me use one of his videos to show what he does and in a recent video he is starting to be a consultant to help game developers so hoping an expansion does happen. So, enjoy the videos and until next time! I will be doing a post that Mr. Brandon McInnis inspired me to do during Holiday Mature. Until next time!

Conventions: Brina Palencia Panel from MegaCon 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! It is time for the final video from MegaCon this year!

Panel: Brina Palencia…Just Part 1

I know what you are wondering, “Part 1?” Well, Nerdy Shirts lost the rest of the panel due to his dad’s computer crashing earlier and that is why it took a while to finish getting the videos up. I understand that tech can be crazy since I am going into Access Tech as my career and computers do crash over time. Heck, I went through it earlier this year with my computer and had to have Gondras post all the Omni footage for me and had to do the posts through my IPad. I do appreciate all Nerdy Shirts did for me during Mega this year as in doing all the videos and covering for Gondras since he only could be there for a day (blame that on Mommy Gondras) and of course was my sighted guide for the entire weekend getting around the crowds who kept on bumping into me without seeing the cane in the vendor room. So yes, I give him the Glittery Star Pawprint of Appreciation for all he did with MegaCon!

So onto the panel, Brina was one of the people who I wanted to interview and sad that I couldn’t try to get an email one with her before the con like with Katie Griffin and Linda Ballumtyne but I did ask her a question and that is “How does it feel to play one of the most iconic characters in anime?” Which was her role in the EVA movies which are 1.1, 2.2 and 3.3 so far. Not sure if 4.4 is being dubbed since that is supposed to be End of Eva in that one. If that doesn’t show in the video, she did say from my memory, “It was fun being Rei!” I did almost have a kitty spazz when someone did ask her about her cats in case if you hear me making any noises in the background because I tend to have a spazz like with what happened in the very first Fairy Tail review I’ve done. So enjoy!

Next will be the best Liquid Lipsticks for Conventions!

Conventions: Totally Spies Reunion Panel from MegaCon 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for another panel from MegaCon 2017!

Panel: Totally Spies Reunion!

This panel brought back a lot of memories for me because I was a fan of Totally Spies when I was in high school. Yes, I also admit that I did like Brace Face as well but mostly caught Totally Spies even when it was on Cartoon Network in the early 2000s! In this panel we bring back Sam, Alex, and Clover with the actresses Jennifer Hale, Katie Griffin, and Andrea Baker! I know what you are thinking…”Wait! Who did Jennifer play?” She was Sam and Katie was Alex while Andrea played Clover. I think Jennifer also said she was Mandy which you will hear during the panel. This panel was also before the Mass Effect panel with Jennifer and Ally Hillis but this one was also fun to be at.

Is that it? Not yet, Nerdy Shirts will be posting the second part to Brina Palencia’s panel from the first day of MegaCon since he had to record the rest of it on his phone. Don’t worry, we will get that to you as soon as possible! I know we have been to so many panels during Mega and dodge the crowds to get this content for you all!

What is next? I thought it would be fun to do a post for convention tips since I rarely do it and in time for Holiday Matsuri and that is the Best Liquid Lipsticks for convention going! It makes sense since we rarely have that time to drop by a bathroom to re-apply and sometimes come to a panel late or have to host one. So, that will be next!

If you haven’t yet, please donate to our Go Fund Me and Patreon! Besides posts here, will be doing a video soon over on YouTube! Oh right, since it is October, September and October Faves this week! Until next time!

Conventions: Billy West Q&A Panel from MegaCon 2017!

/embed]Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Guess what? We have more MegaCon stuff!

Panel: Billy West Q&A

It is time for the Billy West Q&A panel! I remembered watching Ren & Stimpy when I was a kid in the early 90’s and of course Doug since he played Doug and Roger in that which I did not know until this panel! I did want to interview him but got a no with that but with this one I didn’t mind because the questions he got asked were ones I was going to ask. Oh wells!

Enjoy the videos and next panel will be the Totally Spies Q&A Panel! Stay tuned! If you hadn’t been to it yet, please donate to our Patreon or Go Fund Me since Holiday Matsuri is coming up in December and sharing a room at the World Center, need some help with that!

MegaCon 2017: Woemn In Anime Q&A Panel from Orlando!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for another video from MegaCon!

Women in Anime!

This was an interesting panel because it deals with voice actresses in anime and of course we do love our sexy male voices like J Michael Tatum, Matthew Mercer, Chris Sabat, even Liam O’Brien but we never thought about the female voices! Like the males, female characters also drive the story and we have strong female characters in anime and video games and the ones who voice them drive that story. This panel during MegaCon Orlando features Amanda Miller, Brina Palencia, and Jamie Marchi, which Amanda Miller is the new voice of Sailor Jupiter, Jamie Marchi is Kana in Fairy Tail, and Brina Palencia is the voice of Juvia in Fairy Tail and there was supposed to be Colleen Clinkenbeard according to the description for this panel but she wasn’t in the panel but hey we had fun and I did ask Amanda a question about being Sailor Jupiter.

The question was
“How does it feel to be Sailor Jupiter in the new Sailor Moon dub?” Which I was happy about that for Crystal and did love the re-dub of the original and it brought back so many memories being a teen in middle school watching five girls kicking monsters in the face each day on Toonami! I did wear the Sailor Moon broach I had for years from Hot Topic when they sold so many items from the show and they still do today.

I think my fave question to them was what was the most embarrassing thing youhad to say in the booth which Jamie Marchi talked about Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt (Yes, that is the title) where she had to write the most ridiculous things in the script and when I interviewed Chris Sabat during Omni Year 1 he did like recording for that since he had to say the most ridiculous stuff in the booth. If you haven’t seen it and the age of 21+, go ahead and see it and if you are schweemish then you have been warned that brain bleach might be needed.

Well, that is it! Not sure what videos will be next since Nerdy Shirts is still doing his best getting them up and he should get some major applause doing his hardest as the videographer here and doing school, work, and his and his brother’s channel, Super Reaction Bros. Which you guys should check out and that includes their E3 footage where me and Gondras had appearances.

I will try and do my faves of May and June this week since July is right around the corner! Damn, it is already about to be July! Stay tuned!

MegaCon 2017: Mike McFarland Q&A Panel from Orlando!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! I am back again with more MegaCon footage! Sorry for the delay but we are trying to get the videos up as much as possible. Which one is next?

Mike McFarland Q&A!

This past year at MegaCon Mike McFarland as a guest! You guys have seen me interview him during Omni Expo 2015 talking about Attack On Titan and how, like Lauren Landa, kept telling us to ask Bryce Papenbrook about what had happened in the booth with him.
/watch?v=V8kOeCoj7Fk[/embed]
This time it was a Q&A panel with Mike since Dragonball Super is out and he repirses the role of Master Roshi. He is also Haruhi’s dad in Ouran High School Host Club, Estonia in Hitalia, which all thanks to him I want to see it for myself since Todd is hilarious as Italy in that. At least with this panel, besides anime, we got to know what is his fave doctor from Doctor Who both the old series and modern.

Well, what is next in the footage? The Women in Anime Panel from MegaCon which is next! Hoping we get more panel footage up as fast as possible since we haven’t put up Brina Palencia’s panel up yet on here. Also, you can still watch our interview with Mike McFarland from Omni 2015 here by searching here or go to our YouTube for that! Also, if you haven’t bought my book, The Blind Perspective: Convention Stories From the Dark, Chapter 1 talks about how he was the first one to sign the FullMetal Autograph when I first got it in 2006! (Available on Amazon for Kindle and Barnes & Noble for Nook.) Until next time!

Conventions: Voice Actors Script Reading from MegaCon Orlando 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Time for another set of videos for you all!

Panel: Voice Actors Script Reading!

So, next one that was uploaded happened to be the script reading during Saturday’s events. I wasn’t there for it and wishing I was since it was Princess Bride which is a very important pop culture film from the 90’s! At least Nerdy Shirts was able to record this one since the Flash panel earlier that afternoon didn’t allow it. This panel had the voice actors read the script and I did see a bit of it and it was pretty good. Reason why was I found a comment on my phone since I do upload my beauty videos through the app.

I hope you all enjoy the videos and laugh along with it! Hoping we can get more of the panel videos on here on Word Press as time goes on since we also got video of Billy West’s panel, Mike McFarland’s, and many more! Stay tuned!

Conventions: Stan Lee Q&A Panel from MegaCon Orlando 2017!

Hello Shiquers and welcome back to Nerdy Shique Universe! Well, going a bit out of order again with the MegaCon coverage since part two of Brina Palencia’s panel is not up yet so I decided to put up Stan Lee’s panel next!

Stan Lee Panel!

So, the first day of MegaCon ended with a bang and that is a huge one with Stan Lee! Apparently this is supposed to be his final year at a Florida con and the good thing is that we got to catch him at this convention even though would’ve been cool to interview him AHEM! But couldn’t! Hey, at least we got to go to his panel in the end.

What I found interesting was that he never been to Universal all the years he has been here for conventions and he does mention that in this panel. Gondras was in line with people to ask questions but due to him being late to his panel due to photo ops Gondras didn’t get a chance. At least he was there for the panel that night. I did mention what his advice was to new writers and I am keeping that to heart since I am a new author to add to my Freelance Writer and Lead Writer and Producer of this blog since I am about to have my second book released this fall.

I would say enjoy the panel video and hoping I get some of the other voice actor stuff up here but it looks like the Script Reading panel is next! Until next time!
